Saw this yesterday on the eBay deals page for $599, $284 is amazing! Especially that it comes from Dyson themselves which is easy as.

  • +4

best thing I have ever bought for my timber floors

  • Does it not work on carpet at all?

    • Yes with motorhead

      • +44

Everything goes better with 'Ace of Spades' cranked loud..

        • I don't wannna live foreveeeeeeeerrrrrr

      • +1

is that another purchase or does it come with it included?

    • +2

it does but you'd only want to use it for small bursts - we originally got the Dyson Animal in a house that is predominantly timber floors with a few rugs - but ended up getting the fluffy head and that combo works great - fluffy for hard floors and animal for rugs.
I would say only get it if you have more than 75% timber/hard floor - having said that not sure on the cost of an aftermarket 'animal' head - but they are completely interchangeable.

    • +1

It is really specialised for hard floors so I wouldn't bother if you need it primarily for carpet (unless you are willing to buy the different head but I don't know how much they cost).

      • Ok thanks I need it primarily for hard floor but just wondering if it would work on a rug occasionally with the same head.

      • A replacement Motorhead is $125 from Dyson. I assume this is the complete unit including the brush bar and not just the casing. http://shop.dyson.com.au/spare-parts/motorhead-949852-05

        • You can only buy that head if it originally came with the machine, not as an add-on if you buy this V6 Fluffy

        • @cortex21: just get the serial number from a friend who has the other type of machine and say you lost it in a move :)
          worked for me

        • @beebs23327: did they just send you a new one?

        • @Skky: yeah, you obviously pay for it. but just quote the serial.

      • I'm after a head for my apartment that's predominantly carpet. Is there a vacuum model I should be holding out to purchase? I'd really like a cordless handheld.

    • +2

These things are great on hard floors and loop/short pile carpet.

Plush and shaggy carpet it's useless.

  • Was looking at getting one last week but forgot about it. So great timing, thanks OP

    • +31

Maybe you can use it to vacuum up that spare upvote you left under the couch.

      • +3

Haha, good catch, all sorted ;)

  • +1

    The Ozbargaining has begun lol

  • +6

V6 cleaning is not easy.V8 is much better if one can wait for a good deal.

    • +1

I agree. Having sold both the V6 and V8, the last one is a muh better option overall.

V6 sounds like a jet engine, the V8 is a lot quieter.

The V6 will be good for a 50sqm-70sqm 1-2 bedrooms apartment. Anything bigger and you will most likely run out of battery.

Please note the fluffy head on both the V6 and V8 is really bad for carpet.

      • +1

We've got an old V6 Animal and a 240 sqm house.

I manage to vacuum all but the lounge room and the 4th bedroom before the battery runs out.

I don't use the "turbo" function (or whatever it's called) as I don't think it's necessary unless for very stubborn stuff.

    • +2

Yeah, V6 cleaning is a pain but there is a huge price difference, V8 is double the price.

      • just buy 2 v6 and your daughter can help at the same time.

    • Exactly also V8 has HEPA filter, better battery and much easier dust removal
V8 is the one you actually want, given a choice.

    • What are people's thoughts on the V7?

Is the V7 newer than the V8?

Also in terms of noise, how noisy is the v7 compared to the v8?

      • 6 < 7 < 8

        v6 < v7; therefore v7 < v8

  • +4

Thanks OP! @Javin - you will be waiting a while for the v8 to drop under $300!

  • Is this better than other V6 models?

    • +25

The difference in models is what heads it comes with, whats best depends on what you want to use it for.
This deal has an excellent rundown quoting rekabkram from a previous deal

Varients in the V6 range -

All V6's share the same design bar colour which corisponds to which package it comes in. They have the same motor and the same >battery.

The differences are purely accessories the ones that remain the same are the crevice tool and combination tool. Different tools >include -

Narrow motorised main head - a smaller version of the near identical motorised head (roughly 4cm shorter) this might be beneficial if >you have a lot of narrower >areas to access and is the same sized head as on the dc34/35/44/45 redesigned. It is better in layout >than the dc45 head as it's less likely to get things caught in >it. suitable for carpet and hard floors

Motorised main head - the standard head roughly 4cm longer so you don't need as many back and forths to clean the room, but virtually >identical in all other ways. >suitable for carpet and hard floors

Motorhead - has a direct drive motor that is housed within the brush bar, it has a bigger diameter and more power than the previous >Motorised main head and gets >deeper in to the carpet. suitable for carpet and non delicate hard floors

On the narrow/motorised/motorhead they each have red/purple strip made of nylon to adgetate the carpet and knock dust out and carbon >fibre filaments for statically >carged things like dust and hair.

Fluffy - Basically looks like a paint roller on a vacuum, made of microfibres and with strips of (you guessed it) carbon fibre >filaments to pick up fine dust from >hard floors. This is a surface cleaner and not a polisher, will not buff and CAN NOT but used >with water or detergents. suitable for hard floors only including >delicate ones such a polished parkantry

Mini motorised head - Upholstrey brush for use on cloth and carpeted areas if required, with the stick attached it works well on >carpeted stairways as well. I mainly >use my as a handheld when cleaning the car. This tool used with a bit of market spin is what >they call the animals.

V6 slim - Narrow motorised head only
V6/V6 Cordfree - motorised head only
V6 Animal - motorised head and mini motorised head
V6 Motorhead - Motorhead main head and mini motorised head
V6 Fluffy - Fluffy head and mini motorised head
V6 Absolute - Motorhead, Fluffy head, and mini motorised head - also has a hepa filter on the exhaust

Currently do not buy the Animal as for the same price you can get the Absolute which is the same product with more attachments or go >for the motorhead/slim if you >wish to save more.

Do not buy the Fluffy as it's more expensive than the Absolute which again contains the Fluffy but also more.

I narrow down that range as follows -
V6 slim - cheapest V6 and worth spending a little more than the DC45 for (around $320 after discount)

V6 motorhead - if you want the upholstery motorised brush and a bit more carpet cleaning oomph (around $400 after discount)>

V6 Absolute - if you want the Fluffy head and/or are willing to spend the bit more for the hepa filter ($440 after discount)

    Bought one. Thanks TA.
Its still listed for $649 on dyson website and other stores.
    http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick/dyson-v6-…

  • Cheers OP, been on the look out for a sub $300 Dyson stick. Ordered.

  • Got one, thanks - look at the sale speed - must be 70 units gone in 20 minutes.

  • Does the fluffy head work with any of the older dyson vacs? eg. DC58

  • +1

    What a sucky deal.
Thanks OP, just pulled the trigger and disposed of some gift cards ;)

  • +1

Regretting my other Dyson purchase now. At least Dyson sucks better than any sucker I know!

  • Bought one, thanks TA

    PICK5

I just used the code PICKARSE and got 100% off.

    Thanks, Arsepicker.

    • +3

Lol, why is Scab being down voted, arse code jokes are always said on Ozbargain and are always popular.

      • +1

        Because these jokes are vulgar…

        … ozbargainers are refined.

        • Lol.

I miss when you used to say Gimli son of Gloin, at the end of each message.

  • +2

I find these a pita to empty/clean. Dust and dirt gets stuck along the top rim. Have to dismantle everytime. Poor design. Still not convinced it's better than its cheaper similar counterparts. V8 looks better but overpriced at this stage

    • use a icy pole stick.

    • +3

find these a pita to empty/clean

You use flat bread to clean it?

      • +2

Great when you vacuum up some hummus

        • +2

I come here for the bargains and stay for the laughs

        • @gimme:

I stay here for the come and leave after the laughs.

        • @Scab: Who sucks harder?

          You or the Vacuum?

    • I agree, this is will be the third dyson for my place, but I think bagless vacuums have a huge design flaw. Having HEPA or whatever else filters is more of a feelgood thing, when the reality is a large portion of the finer dust is released back into your home when you empty the bin. My solution is to empty it on the balcony, but… PITA.

  • Just to confirm, the head on this is not motorised? It’s the fluffy head with no bristles but I can’t tell if it’s motorised or not? Still comes with all the attachments that the Animal does.

    • +1

      It is motorised

  • i have a v6 animal still working good. wait for a v8 in the near future.

    • Thanks for letting us know.

  • +1

Thank you, been looking for one.

  • +3

    Bought one.

I have all wooden floors and wanted a handheld to compliment my xiaomi robot vacuum to get into the nooks and crannies it misses. I am hoping the mini motorised head is good for getting hay out of my car carpet.

The Holy Grail of vacuuming for me is the robot vacuum twice a week and the dyson for edges, behind doors etc once or twice a fortnight.

With luck I will be able to convince the kids to use it as a game/entertainment.

    • We are in the same bucket.
Love the xiaomi robot but would be nice to have a hand held and not have to drag the other Dyson DC37 when we need a real vacuum

      • Yes it would be great to just grab a lightwweight handheld and fix up those trouble spots rather than drag the large vacuum out. I hope it all works as intended.

    • Thats what I do - Xiaomi for the main and the Dyson V6 for the corners or spot cleans. I don't even use my barrel anymore… well, I do for the car because I find the angled brush of the Dyson stick not very good in the car.

    • Same setup! Lazy ozbargainers unite

      • same same and the 70% off (masters) shopvac for car and outside.

  • +1

I really struggle with the battery life in most Dyson products…. I barely can do my car with my DC58 Animal and it runs out of steam - I have to rush and work up a sweat because i'm worried about the battery…. id hate to be doing a house

    • For in house cleaning I find they're great for short bursts, that is, a room at a time. I wouldn't do the whole house in one go.

      • So that's 20 mins room with a 3.5hr charge time - Assuming it takes 10 mins a room thats like 4 rooms in 4hrs and 10 mins :(

        • 10minute per room? You must be living in a massive mansion lol:p

  • Hmm, getting closer to a price worth considering for parting out for experiments and other DIY tinkering :) Reverse the airflow (electronically or mechanically) and make a sweet leaf, dust, furnace or 'Munroe Dress' up blower… or the beginnings of an electric Turbo charger for a small engine. Hmmmmmmm.

  • Got one!

  • Looks like a really good deal but comments seem to indicate its for hard floors and I have thick carpet I need to clean regularly due to a new puppy

    • Not good for carpets

    • You can buy additional attachments. See frydog's comment above to figure out what you need.

      • +1

        Expensive head!

        Never thought id say that…

For those who have used up their PICK5 code, PAY5LESS works too, click on the original deal link for more details.

    • +1

same here, PICK5 already used. maybe have the original post edited to include the PAY5LESS code so everyone can enjoy this bargain :)

  • Is this the cheapest any of the V6 line have ever been?

Edit: Saw the Slim has been a few dollars cheaper in the past. Pretty good price though.

  • Longtime not seeing Dyson v6 below $300 mark (except for the slim version which only comes with narrow head)

  • thanks TA! lol 408+ sold and counting (though not sure how much of that amount was for this deal)… are they going to have enough stock?

    • +2

There were 25 sold @ $599 before this deal commenced.

      • +1

        Clearly not Ozbargainer's

        • +8

Imagine the pain of knowing they could have got 2 for the price of 1 :(

        • +1

          @tightarse:
Painful for us. But in that moment of madness of paying full price we would surely come to our senses and trigger the free returns then buy the discounted one

Others would just shrug their shoulders and say oh well and probably do something similar again after a few days

  • +2

Thanks TA! Looking forward to using this on my hard floors!

  • Got the V6 2 years ago, never skipped a beat

  • +5

Don't forget, Dyson comes with 2-year guaranty. My V6 battery stopped working, bought at the end of 2016, phoned Dyson, they asked for my serial number and sent a replacement battery and charger for free.

    • +1

Same. I had two weeks left of warranty!

    • Same here

  • -2

Great deal but Alas I already have 2 for my 1 bedroom apartment….

  • +1

ferk this is a ripper deal.

  • Dysons powerheads are pretty useless. They need the vacuum to spin the brush rather than a motor. Some version of the Dyson animal that I bought for 800 is back in storage as the shark does a much better job at cleaning my carpets.

    • They need the vacuum to spin the brush rather than a motor.

      What do you mean?

      • The head in a Dyson is not powered, it has a brush but no motor to spin the brush. The brush spins with the force of the vacuumed air.

        • +3

It is motorised, there are two metal contact pins in the wand.

Also, the run time is far less using the motorised head as it uses power.

The brush wouldn't spin at all if it was just suction.
