Dyson decided to make things more confusing and now have a Dyson V6 Cord-free model that comes with a wider head than the popular V6 Slim.

We'd all be very familiar with the V6 series by now, so not much else to say!

The Dyson V8 Absolute is cheap too, at just under $600 (thanks nizsmo!).

The Dyson V7 is $437, the cheapest so far I believe, if you can pickup.

Free C&C or $12 delivery.

Good price for the V8 Absolute as well @ just shy of $600 after discount, could probably add that to the post!

    • True! Will do that.

    • Good Gawd, what's wrong with a $150 vacuum cleaner, I have used one for the last 15 years.

      • +7

What is wrong with a broom? My grandparents used one for 80 years. :)

        • It doesn't vacuum.

        • +2

          It doesn't suck

        • +3

@dreamscene: The end result with a broom is the same (for hard floors), but many people happily pay more for a vacuum because it's more convenient.

A $150 vacuum will work well in many situations, but some people would happily pay more for a cordless vacuum because it's even more convenient.

… and some people would happily pay even more for a cordless vacuum with double the runtime because it's even more convenient… especially people who own 3-storey houses with 6 bedrooms and 2 kitchens. A $600 vacuum would be an easy purchase for people with that kinda money, just like how a $150 vacuum would be an easy purchase for people with more normal amounts of money. It's all relative. :)

        • -1

          @eug:
          cool

        • Thats coz the Dyson hadn't been invented yet brah!
Fair point, but even your grandparents would toss the broom if they had the stick vac. It's the business, albeit at a premium.

        • @oscarthesausagedog: That's my point… brooms are still available now, yet people would pay a premium for the convenience of a vac over a broom.

In the same vein, some people would pay a larger premium for double the runtime because it's even more convenient to them than a vac with half the runtime.

        • @eug:
Yep, but that's what seems acceptable these days. Grandparents generation can't compute and probably rightly so.
We live in a world of waste and convenience.

        • @eug: And some would buy more than one Cordless Vacuum to double the runtime again.

Good price for the V8. Just note that if you're getting it shipped, the MYER eBay store also has it for the same price but with free shipping :)

Edit: with the 20% off Myer code obviously.

    • +1

Free shipping is always welcome. :)

    • +3

Myer is the only choice for some states as Bing Lee doesn't ship to those states, WA for one I know they don't ship to.

  • $125 for the replacement head if you want to upgrade your older model. Looks like it would be better to get a whole new unit for $100 or so more.
    http://shop.dyson.com.au/spare-parts/motorhead-949852-05

    • +1

Yeah, you'll get a brand-new battery too, plus spare attachments and a charger.

      • +1

Must have been a lot of people complaining about not being able to vacuum their 3-storey mansion on a single charge with the narrow head. Saw a lot of similar complaints on OzBargain too. Could never understand those expectations. It is a handheld dustbuster spot cleaner, not a whole-house unit. Maybe the wider head will help them run over more floor area on a single charge.

        • +4

It's a whole-apartment unit for me. It's so much easier to cart around than my old mains vac.
A wider head would mean fewer passes, so I'm glad they brought the wide head back to this price point.

        • +2

@eug: Yup, I do my whole house (5 bedroom, no carpets) with my 3 year old V6 on a single charge. Will get the v8 absolute once mine dies.

  • I have a two storey house. 4 bedrooms and one lounge on one floor and 2 dining, 2 lounge, study and kitchen on other floor. All hardfloor. Does anyone have experience with this vacuum who can comment if one charge can do one floor?

    • +12

Okay we get it, you're rich…

    • From my experience - It is not good for family with little kids as a main vacuum cleaner. I have one that I use daily and once or twice a week I use the Dyson cinetic big ball allergy to clean my 3 bedroom villa with regular size lounge and kitchen with dinning- all hard floor.

I purchased the cinetic after using v8 for few months

      • So not good because it’s not allergy friendly or because you constantly have to vacuum with little kids?

My household is teenagers and adults so usual not that dirty. Just can’t be stuffed lugging around big vacuum and unplugging it in every 2nd room.

I’m weighing up between the v6 and v8.

        • +4

I've used this for my 3 bedroom Penthouse that looks over the Harbour Bridge. Works fine.

        • Both the barrels and handsticks have HEPA filtration so great for allergies. I've had the Cinetic pro and I must say its a huge pain with the cord in the way and having to switch power points often. We just got the V7 last week and loved it! So much easier and with the brush head works really well on hard floors. Just deciding on getting a second one so we can have upstairs/downstairs. But will probably get a V8. The V7 fits right in between the V6 and V7 with the battery life. 30min. We also have a big house. Master bedroom(the size of 2 regular) + 4 bedrooms, ensuite, Kitchen, Rumpus, Dining, 2 Lounge rooms, Theatre, Study and huge Pool Room. :-)

I only managed to do a quick vacuum with the V7 to cover the Rumpus, Dining and kitchen. Only later I realised It was set to Max Power… So could probably cover half of one floor with a full charge on regular suction.

        • @Ducatista: Good advice. Too bad the price difference between models are so high. I think I might get the V6. Dyson apparently has a 30 day satisfaction garantee at the moment so not a bad way to try the machine. Worst case return it and get my money back less shipping ($10 dyson pick up).

        • +2

@mazzzzz: isn't that the maids job, or is she busy making the bed?

        • Both have hepa filters. Not good because of frequent vacuuming and the small size of vacuum head and collection bin. I spoke to Dyson rep in store and she said the handhelds cannot replace the proper ones (the reason for buying cinetic) and after using both I agree with her. V8 is very good and i bought it for same reason as yours - cords. But the house needs proper cleaning once a week and the cinetic does that properly.

        • @mazzzzz:

Sleeping in the men's room at work?

        • @AMLagonda: I had to use it one day - so frustrating, the maid was sick. I've sacked her and brought in a new one - hopefully she never calls in sick.

    • I just bought the V6 a few weeks ago, and we have a 3BR house that has carpets in the BRs, but hardwood floors elsewhere and a few rugs. I managed to vacuum the whole house on a 15 minute charge including the floors (which I sweep). It's possible, and to be honest I never realised how sh*t our previous vacuum cleaner was until I used this one.

      • Wow that sounds great. To be honest, never spent more than $100 on a vacuum cleaner so Hope I don’t get let down. Yes I know it’s suppose to be for spot cleaning but still…

        • I use v6 absolute for whole house, single storey. I'm fussy so usually don't get the whole thing done in one charge

  • just confirming this is not the slim version, is it?

    • +1

      Yup, it isn't.
This is the slim one. It has a yellow top.

      • Colour doesn't mean anything, my slim is grey.

        • Are you sure yours is the slim model? They're the same price.
          Cord-free
          Slim

        • +1

          @eug:

Yes it's a slim, they come in different colours.

          Here's a slim in blue: https://goo.gl/zQQnBm

Also have an old Dyson barrel vacuum which is yellow, and Mum's identical model vacuum bought at the same time is purple.

EDIT: And that cord-free is white, mine is a metal grey colour.

        • +1

@Scab: That's a "Slim Origin". I've only seen the current "Slim" in yellow. Not sure why they give them different names… maybe Big W contracted that model so they don't have to price match others.

        • @eug:

No idea, my Bing Lee receipt says slim and it's grey.

Bought it from a deal here that Hamza posted a while ago, although I can't find the link.

        • @Scab: Hi Scab I don't think grey ones are not slim one. I got the same Gray one bought in the last apr from one of the deals posted here and the head of these are much larger than the yellow slim model. I know because my neighbor bought the slim yellow modem and we compared both the models.

        • @lokesh7:

It's the slim because Dyson replaced the motorised head under warranty.

It's exactly the same colour as this, and it's certainly not an animal: https://goo.gl/DFpxmL

So Dysons are not colour-coded according to their own website as they don't list a V6 in grey.

        • @eug:

Check the weight. Slim is 2.02kg and the other one is 3.66kg
Not sure which one is better? :s

        • @Scab:

So Dysons are not colour-coded according to their own website as they don't list a V6 in grey.

I think they're colour-coded within each … model year. If you have a look at their online store, all the different V6 models right now have a unique colour scheme. You can't buy a V6 Slim in grey, or any other colour. Next year they might name it something else again, and change the colour.

        • @immu999:

Check the weight. Slim is 2.02kg and the other one is 3.66kg
Not sure which one is better? :s

Mmm, the units themselves would be the same. They both have the same suction power and runtime. Maybe the specs are wrong; they also list the dimensions as 0x0x0mm.

        • @eug:
May be.. I can see TGG also list the weight difference.
          Here https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/dyson-v6-cord-free-handstick-…
          and here https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/dyson-v6-slim-handstick-21922…

          So which one is better?

        • @immu999: The weight difference on the TGG site is only 70g. They both have different heads, so you'd expect some weight difference.

Better depends on which one you prefer.. a wider head or a narrower head? The unit itself would be the same.

        • @eug:

I'll go with wider head. Thanks for the analysis :D

        • +1

          @immu999:

I've always been told a wider head is better.

  • I bought a V6 slim a few weeks ago from this sale https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/334570
I just picked it up its still in the box, is it worth trying to return it to TGG & get the V6 Cordless from this deal?

    • TGG charge restocking fee?

      • They don't but returns is not easy if it has been few weeks

      • -4

Hope you paid with 28 degrees Mastercard with shoppers protection. Just break it and claim insurance. (Though I wouldn’t do this myself)

    • Whats the difference? apart from one being yellow, the other white.

      Edit: wider head.

  • Dyson v6 "cord free" is normal dyson v6, if it has got non slim head?

    • There's Slim, Cord-free, Fluffy, Animal extra, and Absolute. I suppose this would be the most "normal" of the lot…

  • +2

I thought they are all cord free, not sure why they had to brand this as "cord free". Seems just a V6 model.

  • Dyson as always is very confusing. I am better off with other better brands

  • I’m waiting for V10

  • Hey OzBargainers!

Just thinking that I could buy TWO V6 for the price of one V8! We have a big house and just bought the V7 the other day. Loved it! so much that I joked to my wife we should get 4 of these around the house. With kids we do regular small cleans instead of one big clean. Being below half price for the V6 compared to V8, I'm considering it. What do you guys think?

    • Yeah do it!

    • After getting the V7, we've decided to get rid of our Cinetic Big Ball Animal Pro for another handstick. Just too hard lol

      • V7, how much did you pay?

        • +1

Got it for $437.60 from the Good Guys on the 15th Oct. It was already on sale for $547.00 plus Ebay extra 20% off.

        • @Ducatista: cool thanks

    • Spot on!

  • We have a 59 animal that has been awesome but needed a new turbo head and stick and now the battery seems to have gone. How's this compare to the 59 animal?

    • They seem to work the same. A replacement battery for the DC59 is $85, so if you need a new head, stick, and battery, you might as well just buy a new one.

  • Hi guys, can I get TRS from MYER ebay store? I mean how I can get the tax invoice with MYER ebay order? thx.

    • You’re going to bring your vacuum cleaner with you on a flight?? Seriously??

But joking aside, I would believe they have to supply you with a tax invoice, how else will you claim warranty?

      • thx for the reminding!

I was considering bringing it with me on the flight, so not likely?
How big the cleaner will be? Also, the original package is not possible to bring on the flight?

        • Not sure if they'll allow you to carry it onboard… you can check it in and still claim TRS though, you just have to get it inspected before you check it in.

        • @eug: yes you can check it in. Forgot about it

    • BTW don't forget the $300 minimum for TRS!

      • yep, will try to make an order over $300.
        thx.

  • Also, how many replacement heads are included in the package?

    • What do you mean? There’s two accessory tools that come with it think

  • My god… Why make it white?! Its so ugly!

  • Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again.

    • +1

It starts at 6pm AEST today. The Myer deal starts tomorrow morning 10am AEST.

      • Thanks champ. I got excited but god the white is ugly … like really ugly.

I have still the DC31 purple and it does an excellent choice. Never came with the stick though so considering getting this one and selling the DC31 to recoup some $$.

  • Does the Myer invoice reflects the 20% discount? Or does it show the original $299

    • +1

Pretty sure it'll show the original $299, based on all the previous invoices I've received from all the past sales.

  • Just talking to Dyson. As we have an older model we can update to new V8 and Dyson giving 25% off their rrp of $899. Will keep in mind in case Bing Ling put price back up for 20% deal.

    • Yes that 25% is off their RRP prices.. the V8 animal is $799 and absolute is $899. They were $50 cheaper but they also jacked up their prices.

  • +1

    hopefully someone reads this!

i have the animal variant of the old DC35, or possibly the 45. The head is atrociously designed because pet fur clogs up the wheels (not the actual roller) within a few uses, meaning they no longer spin and instead simply drag across the floor and scratching everything. You can clean the fur out by hand (except for one wheel which is not servicable) but they will once again clog within a matter of uses. I have two dogs which don't drop more than the average amount of fur.

Can anyone who uses the V6 with the larger head confirm if they experience this issue at all? I know the head has changed in design a lot so hopefully they realised their error and corrected it.

  • Free delivery from Bing Lee or only Myer?

  • +1

Item Listing Removed From Myers…. To wait till tomorrow to see if it will come back or pay the extra $12.

    • My thoughts also. Any idea why it would be removed?

      • just beware the Bing Lee promotion ends at 6 AM on Tuesday morning.
If you wait for the Myer deal the Bing Lee deal would have ended.

    • Sad. They have history of removing products, but they often add it back randomly.
Wait or buy from Bing lee??

  • Looks like Myers have taken down the v6 and v8 off their eBay shop

    • I know… weak. Was just going to try to get it. I got all excited. I have a disability and have the v8… love it. I had the v6 but gave it to my mom when I bought the v8. I now would like a cheap v6 to use for the yuckier cleanup after my two small children, so as not to risk my v8.

      • Im trying work out if to just get the v6 or v7. How did you find the v6? Ive got a dc45 and want to upgrade since the v6 is very cheap.

  • Does anyone here know if the Binglee invoice will show the original $299 or the discounted price? looking at claiming trs. Thanks!
