Dyson V6 Slim Handstick Vacuum for $279.20 C&C ($288.20 Delivered) from Bing Lee eBay

1190
CNY20

Original 20% off at Bing Lee on eBay Deal Post

We were after a cordless vacuum to replace our aging Electrolux Ergorapido. I came across this as part of the Bing Lee sale on eBay and thought it was worthy of its own post in case others were looking for the base model V6.

There seems to be plenty of stock at time of posting.

Retail price is $399 but normally sells for ~$350.

The other variants:

Dyson V6 Cord Free - $359.20
Dyson V6 Animal - $399.20
Dyson V6 Motorhead -$519.20
Dyson V6 Absolute - $439.20

This comment by rekabkram back in Nov 2016 for this deal gives good info on the variants (pasted below).

Varients in the V6 range -

All V6's share the same design bar colour which corisponds to which package it comes in. They have the same motor and the same battery.

The differences are purely accessories the ones that remain the same are the crevice tool and combination tool. Different tools include -

Narrow motorised main head - a smaller version of the near identical motorised head (roughly 4cm shorter) this might be beneficial if you have a lot of narrower >areas to access and is the same sized head as on the dc34/35/44/45 redesigned. It is better in layout than the dc45 head as it's less likely to get things caught in >it. suitable for carpet and hard floors

Motorised main head - the standard head roughly 4cm longer so you don't need as many back and forths to clean the room, but virtually identical in all other ways. >suitable for carpet and hard floors

Motorhead - has a direct drive motor that is housed within the brush bar, it has a bigger diameter and more power than the previous Motorised main head and gets >deeper in to the carpet. suitable for carpet and non delicate hard floors

On the narrow/motorised/motorhead they each have red/purple strip made of nylon to adgetate the carpet and knock dust out and carbon fibre filaments for statically >carged things like dust and hair.

Fluffy - Basically looks like a paint roller on a vacuum, made of microfibres and with strips of (you guessed it) carbon fibre filaments to pick up fine dust from >hard floors. This is a surface cleaner and not a polisher, will not buff and CAN NOT but used with water or detergents. suitable for hard floors only including >delicate ones such a polished parkantry

Mini motorised head - Upholstrey brush for use on cloth and carpeted areas if required, with the stick attached it works well on carpeted stairways as well. I mainly >use my as a handheld when cleaning the car. This tool used with a bit of market spin is what they call the animals.

V6 slim - Narrow motorised head only
V6/V6 Cordfree - motorised head only
V6 Animal - motorised head and mini motorised head
V6 Motorhead - Motorhead main head and mini motorised head
V6 Fluffy - Fluffy head and mini motorised head
V6 Absolute - Motorhead, Fluffy head, and mini motorised head - also has a hepa filter on the exhaust

Currently do not buy the Animal as for the same price you can get the Absolute which is the same product with more attachments or go for the motorhead/slim if you >wish to save more.

Do not buy the Fluffy as it's more expensive than the Absolute which again contains the Fluffy but also more.

I narrow down that range as follows -
V6 slim - cheapest V6 and worth spending a little more than the DC45 for (around $320 after discount)

V6 motorhead - if you want the upholstery motorised brush and a bit more carpet cleaning oomph (around $400 after discount)

V6 Absolute - if you want the Fluffy head and/or are willing to spend the bit more for the hepa filter ($440 after discount)

Or for V8 deals (longer runtime on battery):

V8 Absolute - $679.20
V8 Animal - $599.20

(V8 Absolute was posted as part of this deal by hamza23)

So is absolute worth the extra?

    • +3

Apparently not, on my take of it at least. Unless you're willing to spend an additional 160 for two heads instead of one.

      • Thanks LennyT - will add to the description.

      • +1

You don't get a "Motorhead" with the absolute, you get the "Soft roller" fluffy head, a "Direct Drive" carpet head and the mini head.
So two unique heads with the absolute. The motor head is a multi purpose head, I've had all three and the motorhead is inferior but still very good!

        • Is the motorhead the same as the direct drive motorised head?

        • The description stix added says absolute has motorhead. So that writeup from rgavin is wrong?
Also what is difference between "motorhead" and "motorised head"

        • @Gaggy: The V6 motorhead and the V6 absolute motorhead is exactly the same, absolute comes with an extra fluffy head and post hepa filter.

No difference as such, most brands just like to use slight variations but essentially the same thing, only difference is the technology behind them.

      • For me main thing there is hepa filter, which is only in absolute.

  • +3

    Great write up, thanks Stix.

I got an absolute in the last ebay 20% off deal. Gotta say, it has changed how we keep the house clean. It is so light and not having to worry about wires means spills and localized dirt/debris is taken care of right there and then. This means our house is cleaner than ever :)

Its so easy to use and clean - it is definitely a little marvel. I got an absolute since I have carpet, tiles and hardwood floors. If you are on the fence, I'd highly recommend the absolute pack.

    • +1

So does the head from the slim work on carpet? Or the one on absolute works better?

      • -2

        Absolute slim chance…

      • +4

Silm head works fine on carpet, if you just happen to have both the slim and absolute next to each other, both can pick everything up, the absolute would just do everything more effective and quicker.

        • Thanks

Their marketing is super confusing. Everything I've read makes it seem like you can remove the "pipe", and then you have a "mini unit".

Is this not actually the case, it's a completely separate head for using it in "mini mode"?

Or you can, it's just you have the 20cm head rather than a really little one?

    • +2

If you take the shaft off, you're left with a mini vac. Applicable to all variants

      • Which is different to the "mini vac" head, ok thanks got it :)

  • +1

Bought one this morning and by 1:30pm today was ready for pick up. Very happy with the turn around time.

  • everything I've read says the Absolute has everything the others have (inc Moorhead) with the addition of Hepa filters - in which case I don't understand why its cheaper than the motorhead….

    • +1

It does not make sense because of the sale prices but when they first came out, V6 motorhead was $799 and Absolute was 899. For whatever reason, absolute has the bigger price drop despite both models being retired.

    • Edit: Have just realized there's a difference between the two. Nvm.

    • I believe the Motorhead is normally cheaper - just priced higher with Bing Lee.

      • so the Absolute is the pick of the deals then really? especially as I have carpet and hard floors….

        • Depends on your budget and needs. :)

I didn't want to spend $440 so just went with the base model. We just wanted a handheld vac that will help us do a quick vac on our carpets and hard floor. We have a Miele C3 Cat & Dog for a good clean.

        • Yes especially for you and your cleaning situation you just mentioned.

  • I wonder how this stacks up to the dc44… the motorhead on ours had given up the ghost and we've been using the pet motorhead. ..takes a loooong time to vacuum.

    • The V6 slim alone already is an updated, upgraded model over the DC44, you will notice the pick up difference despite having similar head size.

      • Thanks for your reply cortex21. May just give it a go. Was tempted to just replace the head but may be worth going for a new one. Cheers :)

  • Long time lurker first time poster. Need a new Vac for my Studio, looking at these deals and thinking about it… One basic question first, the Cord Free version and the Slim. What is the difference, the write up didn't seem to touch on that model? As I read the website both have batteries and in theory would both be Cord Free? I am a red blooded male and these devices are fairly foreign to me :)

    • +1

V6 slim - Narrow motorised head only
V6/V6 Cordfree - motorised head only

They're exactly the same apart from the head (and the colour). The Slim's head is about 4cm narrower.

      • Ahhh cheers. Clear as mud Dyson, big price diff for seemingly not much value. Guess that makes the choice easier :)

        • +3

I found their models very poorly explained. It took a lot of effort to find basic comparisons. Not even a mention of "what's in the box" on pretty much any site I found.

  • Sad there's no V8 deals

  • +1

    suggestion needed:
I am not sure which to buy? a Dyson handheld or a Miele C3?
situation: Im renting a fully carpeted home with 2 females and a male who shed a lot of hair when hair dressing. I plan to buy a Miele C3 cat and dog as it specializes in pulling that hair off the carpet. I believe the OzB community has a better say than Choice or whatever.

    • +3

We have a C3 and an older Dyson DC35. The C3 is excellent. Amazing suction, and the bags take ages to fill up. The Dyson's draw backs are:
      - lack of suction on carpet (I reckon the V8 is the only one that does a decent job on this front)
      - the head of the Dyson isn't great at picking up larger 'debris' (like Cheerios).

So we end up using the Dyson for a quick clean, and the Miele for a proper clean.

The Miele is really very good for a corded vacuum.

    • +1

2 different marketed products, one (V6 series) is designed for spot cleaning and one (Miele) is designed as a full house vacuum. A V6 is technically marketed and designed to work alongside a full corded vacuum such a the Miele C3 not replace it completely. In your situation, though both can pick up hair, the Miele would be the better choice as biggest canister and you won't have to wait between recharges for such a business.

      • I think fair comparison for V6 will be with a robot vac.

  • I tried purchasing miele c3 through eBay binglee. But they are asking me to register for PayPal . Is it compulsory as I am not interested in registering for PayPal. Any reply would be appreciated. Thanks

    • +2

Looks like they only accept PayPal as payment. PayPal is worth having anyway as many vendors accept it these days.

  • Just confirming, the V6 Slim also comes with the small brush and crevice attachment as shown in the picture on BingLee? Store descriptions and Dyson's website lack info…

    • +1

Yes, that is correct. Those two tools are standard with all the Dyson V6/V8 Range

      • Cheers

  • Is the V8 Absolute effective at being the only vacuum in the house and not just for spot cleaning?

If it's only good at spot cleaning, might as well get the cheapest lightweight battery device and a decent household vacuum cleaner.

    • +1

I'd say that depends on your house mate. For instance, despite what people have said above, there is just no way I'd be getting another vacuum for my place (2 bedroom town house). The Dyson will well and truly do the trick.

I think most people who have said that are referring to big family homes, where it might be a bit more difficult to use as a stand alone vacuum, given the battery etc.

      • Cheers.

    • +1

I had a 4 bedder one story home and it does a decent clean of the whole house, you may not be able to do a thorough clean though. But for day to day cleaning of random spots, it's awesome! It's the main vacuum for the house.

  • I applied the code and checked out, but they charged the full price to my card. -_- just messaged them but who knows when they will reply. Just be careful when you put in the purchase.

    • Have you checked the actual card?
For me in the past PayPal was confusing showing charging full amount and then a separate credit into account. And the actual credit card charge was the difference between two.

  • Tossing up between this and the Vax VX 53, but cant find any decent reviews or comparisons - can anyone provide some advice.
Only need it for a 2 bedroom unit, have used the DC35 previously and that was amazing (had to get rid of it) - so wondering if the Vax is a suitable replacement.

    • The two have slightly different market audiences. Vax range would be aimed at people who have a budget or similarly can't afford to go to a Dyson at the time of looking.

V6 slim is the cheapest in the V6 range as well as the most comparable to the VX53 in terms of looks. they both have a slim head (If I am thinking of the correct Vax model), both designed for both floor types, similar canister size but both have pros and cons over the other.

Vax one is cheaper and does have a lock for the trigger (so you do not have to hold it down all the time) and I believe has a replaceable battery without having to send to the company whereas the V6 slim is the stronger out of the two but slightly more dearer.

If you loved the DC35, then the V6 slim is a greater improvement from that model.

IF you have the budget to go up slightly, the V6 slim would be the overall stronger performer out of the two but of course at the end it is your choice.

      • +1

        Thanks @cortex21, good summary!

  • Has anyone received confirmation that it has been sent?

    • From memory of when the 20% off started to now, there have been over 500 sold. I would assume they wouldn't have that many in stock as well as a massive increase in orders in general to be shipped across their range. I wouldn't be holding your breath.

      • tryagain, are you speaking from experience on previous 20% off sales? I have ordered one a couple of days ago and have not received an email saying it's on its way yet. Are you suggesting that we may be waiting weeks but will still get the product? If so, that's ok, I've been without one for so long I can wait a bit longer.

        • Well, shortly after posting this I received my shipping details, either I got lucky or they have the extra staff and stock to cope with the increased demand.

Speaking from the point of view that most business's processes would struggle with such a spike in demand more than from past experience but I would envisage it would cause a delay of days more so than weeks.

        • @tryagain:
Thanks for the reply. Glad you got your email.

    • Well, I was also concerned of the status of the order. Made call to them a while ago, and guess what! After putting up with disgusting and tasteless bloopers for nearly 4 odd minutes they hung up on me. :O
Since @tryagain have got the shipping confirmation, hope I'd be also eventually getting the confirmation. As @Stix noted I also ain't in hurry, but would have loved get by now so that it'd been possible to give it go over the weekend.

    • Has anyone in WA actually received it? I've had a tracking confirmation that hasn't changed from initial email on the 8th indicating it was in NSW

  • Sorry to be a noob, but say I bought the v6 slim and wanted extra heads, would I be able to just buy them separately?

    • That depends on the heads you are wanting to buy in the future.

E.g. if you wanted the bigger head on the V6 cordless or the main heads from V6 absolute (motorhead and fluffy head) then no you cannot buy them separately as an add-on, they can only be bought as a replacement if they came with the machine, to begin with. If it is other heads say dusting head, flexible crevice, mini motorised head (the one that comes in V6 animal or higher) then yes you can.

      • Thanks for the reply! I have my eyes set on the v6 slim, but also worried that the smaller head won't get the job done correctly.

      • Thanks for the reply! I have my eyes set on the v6 slim, but also worried that the smaller head won't get the job done correctly.

        • The slim version was designed primarily for people with narrow floor areas like a small studio/apartment situation. It can do everything the V6 cord free can (Model one up from the V6 slim) just obviously will do the job slightly longer due to the width of the head, otherwise, it has the same power and performance of the V6 cord free.

      • I believe there are always alternative option from eBay, no they are definitely not originally branded parts but should do the work, my best guess.

        • There are yes that is true, But I could never welcome the idea to people as because it is not original despite it fitting into the machine. If something happens to the machine, you might not be covered by the warranty if the company somehow found out you were using 3rd party items.

Trying to save money sometimes in certain situations isn't necessarily the best route depending on how you see it but obviously why we are all here on this site it is understandable.
