LG V30+ (AU Stock) $959.19 Delivered @ Allphones eBay

PAPERS

Looks like a historical low for AU stock. Though if you’re interested in this one you might be better waiting until the G7 announcement/release (?May) or better yet its successor (?Nov) as LG phones in particular depreciate really well!

This was my pick for 2017 phones. The closest thing to the S8+, without being a Samsung. Better design (IMO) than the Pixel 2XL (LG manufactured that too I realise). Some of the best specs in a 2017 phone (you might do better with a Huawei Mate 10 Pro, OnePlus 5T, or Razor phone, but each have their own issues).

Biggest concern is probably the display issues, though supposeably not really that much of a biggie (do you want to take a chance at flagship prices though). Also the reports are that 2018 processors are taking a big leap forward, with the SD845 debuting in the S9.

Personally I’m waiting until they return Touch ID to the front (under-the-display for bezelless designs) and they do a good OLED display in a non-Samsung phone. Wouldn’t mind something closer to a 6.5” display too.

Wake me up when it's under fivehunch

    • wake up, G6 is now under $600 on Ebay, go back to sleep you wanted the V30.

      • I bought the g6 for 480 quite a few months back. Surprised that it's gone up this much again

"Biggest concern is probably the display issues"

IMO the very average rear camera, and the bad front facing camera are the biggest concern.
As I've said in other V30 threads there's a 2018 variant of the V30 being announced (maybe released) at the MWC in a little over a week.
Apparently the camera gets a software update or something. The rumours aren't flattering, but it's probably still worth waiting to see what they've got up their sleeves (I am).
    A Source

Hold out for the S9 I reckon.

  • I was hoping for the G7 release at CES :( I am finally eligible to get a work plan and can buy a 'discounted' Telstra business price phone on the plan. My Kogan 365 deal is done at the end of March.

Do you have any further info on the SD845? I am not too concerned about getting more processing power (using a Redmi note 3 which is plenty fast for my use), but am certainly interested in power saving benefits.

    • power saving is best managed by how many apps run in the background, display backlight, turn off wireless and Bluetooth if not specifically being used etc.

The power savings as processors evolve isn't startling and they aren't what uses up the most power,

The SD 845 isn't that ground breaking actually. From AnandTech's conclusion: "Overall the Snapdragon 845’s system performance is a mixed bag. We had higher expectations from the new CPU changes, but it seems we’ve only gotten incremental improvements."

  • Any ideas when the next deal for Huawei mate 10 pro comes out? i missed the $879 deal T_T

    • The same code will bring it down to $950 from Allphones.

Was the $879 deal for AU stock? If so, damn! Seems like a good phone if you're not concerned about all the talk about fake reviews and Chinese Gov backdoor access

      • haha yea i just read the news on huawei, but why are we so concerned? do you wanna know who is the biggest culprit? apple, they have fingerprint scanning and face recognition in their databases. So potentially they know exactly where u are for all those iphonex users and can put a real time face to it.

yea i think it was au stock, for $879, i gave it a pass back then coz i wasn’t sure if i wanted it, now i’m kicking myself in the face haha

      • Chinese gov backdoor access …. you'd need a real influential position for the chinese gov to be interested in what you do, and if you are in that league e.g trade minister , etc then you would have a government issued phone that addresses those concerns.

Google is a bigger issues as you give your details for the Gmail account so that you can use the playstore…. google doesn't need a backdoor they get your data via the front door.

        Yes, I also use android.

Optus phone network uses a lot of Huawei as does the TPG broadband network.

be more worried about the Xiaomi smart home stuff, the Xiaomi cloud that drives the smart home stuff.

  • Not interested, but +1 for taking the time to describe it like that.
I went with the Xperia XZ Premium last year (my top pick for 2017 phones) which is much cheaper anyway.

I had this and switched to the Pixel 2 XL and I have to say this is the better phone in a lot of ways. Better hardware, heaps more features and better physical design. Too bad LG's camera software sucks right now, but for the price this is a lot of phone and many people don't realise that.
