I've had my eye on the LG C4 42" for a while, and this price looks quite decent right now. I'm considering using it as a monitor, so I'd love to hear any thoughts or feedback.

https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/oled42c4psa-lg-42-inch-o…Thanks! I'm trying to price match with JB and see how far it can go too :)
They were able to price match via chat and bring it down to $1,348.00. Good for local pickup
Wasn't this around $1000 in December 2024?
Indeed, these were targeted at 50% price cuts. The MSRP seems to have dropped from $2200 to $1700 recently (as its going EoL for C5).
As such $1400 really isn't much of a cut, and personally I will hold off for a real price cut to under $1000.
I have been using c2 42 as a monitor for just over 2 years with 4254hrs running time (just checked!) No burn in at all. It's the best monitor I've ever owned
I've got a 48" C1 and done 10,500 hours… and no burn it.. before that I had a C7 with about the same and it had massive burn in.. LG replaced the panel after 3.5 years..
how do you get the data of hours used?
Under support - TV information
Did you go through their support? I've got a CX just over 11k hours 4 years and they are refusing to replace the panel :(
I created a ticket, sent them a photo of the burn in and they came around and replaced the panel on my floor. Maybe 30 mins of work. That said, I'd say that they'd changed their policy since then and at 4 years, you're probably over a threshold of them not caring….
@Vladdo: That sounds like a much better experience than I had last year with my 65" OLED.
They sent a local repair shop pick up my screen and it took well over a month for them to replace my faulty panel.
It was still under warranty too.
Push harder, I’ve seen panels over the 5 yr mark get replaced
My c7 also had massive burn in and was replaced
Replacement panel had worse burn in and replaced
Current panel going strong. Must have been a c1 or c2 panel.ive got 7600 hours on my Gigabyte Aorus 48" which has a C1 panel in it. Zero burnin, no real complaints, would buy again.
what monitor did you come from? big adjustment from a 34 inch curved?
Not OP but came from G7 32" + 34" Ultrawide. You'll find the adjustment perfectly fine. I use fancyzones from powertoys to section the monitor into 3 areas for multitasking similar to the ultrawide.
Came from a LG 34 curve and then Asus 43 inch and then c2, it was a big adjustment from 34 to 43 mainly due to the size. Between oled and asus led it's a day and night change in the pic quality.
Went from a xiaomi 34 led TN curved panel to this one. I use it for 65-75% work and rest for other stuff. Here are my findings:
'+ Way more screen real estate. You can do a comparison for yourself here: displaywars.com/
+ OLED + HDR mode is "chefs kiss" for games and media'- It is an exxy purchase for a 41.5 screen that is 144 hz and not 240 hz like some of the new Oleds. example: Neo G8
- It's a glossy screen so glare can be disorienting. Suggest not place it facing a window or any light
- Unlike a monitor it requires it's own connection to the wifi so firmware can be updated
- I haven't set up the software to auto restart and am using the remote to set the source to PC everytime I turn on or wake the pc up
- requires a deeper desk to be able to take all the screen in. I find upwards of 75 cm as the ideal depth for my eyes. YMMV. Suggest to get a keyboard tray to get the extra depth incase your desk isn't deep enough
- For work sometimes it does the auto dimming in SDR mode which can catch you offguard. It does less of that autodimming in SDR than HDR. Suggest to leave the HDR mode for games/media and stick to SDR for workCheers for the response. Xiaomi 34 - Exactly what I'm using at the moment! My desk width is only 65cm (and up against a wall with no space behind) - Do you think that's passable?
C2 42" user here, over 5000 hours on mine and no burn in. Best monitor I've ever used.
Only HDMI by the looks ?
I use Linux (LMDE) and see there's some kerfuffle around HDMI and AMD not being able to release drivers for it (albeit I haven't looked into it much) with Linux, anyone in the know, will this still work ?
Can you just plug it into your DisplayPort output instead, with a https://www.amazon.com.au/AOOCOO-DisplayPort-Converter-Resol… ?
You can use displayport but you might be bandwidth limited if you're using high refresh/HDR/10 bit colour..
Won't this have very bad picture quality being only 4K resolution and 43 inches? For TV it would be ok but as a monitor everything will look pixelated especially text?
Viewable screen of the OLED42C4 TV with a pixel density of 106 PPI (pixels per inch), which is comparable to that of 27″ 2560×1440 displays (108 PPI). So not too bad. 48" is when it's pixelated.
While 48" is lower PPI, its FAR from what i would call pixelated..
Depends how close you sit
Text in particular is very dependant on font, size, thickness, and colour. Resolution and physical displayed size also play a part - but technology of the screen is a big concern. How else can a 4k tv at 75/85 inches display a "home screen" full of text and options without being pixelated?
But as others said - 4k at this size is similar to a much smaller 1440p monitor for PPI
I’ve had a 48” C1 since 2021 and don’t have any ghosting or burn in at all. Just dead pixels.
I do have a screen saver come on and I auto-hide the taskbar. Still love it and the only reason I’d ever change is if they had one one with DisplayPort. I use it with a gaming PC, MacBook Pro, Dell Laptop, PS5, Switch, Apple TV, Google Chromecast 4K.
Would this be worth upgrading from a Gigabyte Aorus FV43U? 42.5 inch 4K VA 144Hz HDR1000. The FV43U has USB hub and KVM, though I don't use the KVM at all, and I could easily use a different hub. And the FV43U has DisplayPort, but that should be OK in my situation, I have 1 HDMI output on my GPU.
Night and Day. GB marketed there VA panels as a much better product than they actually are compared to other options available in the tv space at the time. If you actually use the features 100+hz and HDR you will be over the moon.
Thanks. I reckon I'll do it. I wanted an OLED when I got the FV43U but the OLEDs were too pricey and I was too impatient.
But I'll wait until this is closer to $1k.
Anyone know what the C5 is bringing in feature upgrades? Higher refresh rate for gaming?
I have the LG C1 48' as my monitor and it's amazing!!
Just got one of these to use as monitor, Ngl it’s pretty massive. My eyes hurt the first day and now I think I’m used to it?
It’s a brilliant screen , everything is customisable.
I managed to mount on monitor arm with a mount adaptor from amazonPlease share URL to your mount adaptor from amazon?
I bought this last year to use as a monitor for about 1200 (minus gift card of around 150 and GC discount).
It is pretty big for a monitor. Brightness is good enough. Frame rate at 144Hz is good enough for me but I couldn't get VRR/G-Sync/FreeSync to go above 120Hz at 4k.
I use the monitor mainly for work and sometimes for gaming. The sublixel layout isn't as good as my older monitor for text, but still very usable.Compared to my TV (Samsung (QD-) OLED S95b 65"), I feel the brightness is somewhat better but I'm not convinced that even newer WOLEDs have better colours than QD-OLED. So don't expect it to be the most amazing OLED screen (the dedicated PC monitors might have higher brightness)..
The only gripe I have is that with this much of a height, webcam positioning has become very awkward.
Overall, if it's not a shooter requiring mouse/kb, I'd still rather play it on the TV. It does everything fine - for me this is a jack of all trades, master of none situation.
I had same issue but I enabled deep color and went into nvidia control panel to get it to goto 144
Thanks for the info! I'll give it a try. I think I also enabled deep colour. I remember some features getting disabled/grayed out when enabling 144hz and VRR being one of them.
I have an AMD card so could be a reason.
I'll give it a try again.
I have a C2 42” as my main monitor for work/gaming. Works very well.
For FPS games I have to crank the FOV, otherwise it can make me feel a bit ew.
For those using it as a monitor, how far away from the screen do you sit? I have a 32" monitor which is fairly large, and I couldn't imagine anything too much bigger.
From memory 75cm is bare minimum but preferably 85cm
Missed this deal but with how slow the 5090's will be to get back in stock in Aus it can wait.
If you're using one of these as a monitor - as I am - then this will be your new best friend: https://github.com/JPersson77/LGTVCompanion
You never have to touch the remote once it's set up, it turns the TV on and off with your PC (Windows in my case).
Legend, thanks for sharing this.
You sir, are a legend.. thank you.. I've been using a broadlink IR controller to turn on the TV but this is a way better solution.. thank youj..
Not a sir, but do appreciate the thanks. ;D
Oh neat! been looking at this TV and that app has some sweet features! :D def going down this road!
Thank you for this!!
Use colorcontrol app if you want disable auto dimming.
Press mute 3 times to disable the LG logo
Only when the TV keeps making you accept new terms and conditions with the remote 😆. I guess you could keep it off the internet.
Thank you ,I got triple c4 setup and this is life saver
Hey, quick question if I may, how close do you reckon is too close to use this as a monitor? WarChief suggests down below that 75cm away is required to take all the screen in, which requires a big desk or maybe a stand or hang on the wall, how have you set yours up, and do you have any comments on distance etc? Thank you very much.
I believe my desk is 76cm deep, and it’s mounted on an Ergotron arm at the extremity.
