Eco-Drive means the watch is solar powered, it has a rechargeable battery.
Reports from members in previous deals say that the rechargeable battery is still working in their older eco-drives after 10 years or more.

Will be getting their hybrid smart watch coming mid 2018 instead.

  • +2

    Omg the Blue version Promaster!!!!

To B or not to B????

    • +2

Haven't you been after a deal on that model for a while?

I got the black one from this deal. It's a very nice watch, but I love dive watches anyway.

      • Good memory. Yes but since I got my first automatic dress watch it's more suitable for work. This is a great price but I am still finding reasons to justify spending the money.

It's 43mm but it wears small doesn't it?

        • +1

Yes 43mm, I measured it when posting the deal. I wear this more than my Seiko SKX007, but that's probably because it's always working & is on a rubber strap.

        • @WatchNerd: What's the SKX007 diameter and thickness? Looks smaller than the Promaster.

So does the Promaster wear small on the wrist, and does it feel bulky overall, with the diver rubber strap?

        • +1

There isn't much in it - the Seiko SKX007 appears to be slightly smaller at 42mm, but the Promaster feels smaller & lighter on the wrist because it has 19mm lugs (Seiko 22mm lugs) and a rubber strap. My Seiko has a SS bracelet.

They don't feel bulky to me, but that's because it's mainly all I wear, unless I'm working, then I'm wearing my favourite massive China Cheapo - Skmei 1134.

        • +3

@WatchNerd: We have to end this discussion now, because I'm getting triggered.

  • This or the Seiko SKX009K1?

    • +3

Well, the question there is really more "solar/battery vs mechanical", isn't it?

  • +2

    Mechanical it is!

    • +2

I've had eco drive solar for over 13 year and still going …. nice thing is never need to open seals for battery change and quartz means only need to set to daylight savings in regards to crown seal wear and tear ….. dive watch you want waterproof and not have to pay for a service.

  • +2

    Love the Citizen Eco-Drive watches.
    Thanks WatchNerd.

    • +1

      So you bought a Promaster???

      • Yes, I've got 2 Promasters :)

        • You bought previously, or you just bought on this deal - both colours?

        • @sky blu: Previously - my fiance will give me the silent treatment if I get another watch haha

        • +1

@MathNerd: So, blue or black is better?

(yes I know, should be blue for me otherwise my username won't check out…)

        • @sky blu: I'm a fan of the black personally, never tried a blue!

        • @MathNerd: What's the other Promaster you got?

        • +4

@sky blu: Stop stalling and just buy it.

        • +1

@sky blu: The 2 I have are the Promaster GMT BJ7076 and the Promaster Satellite Wave CC9025 :)

        • +2

@MathNerd: The Satellite Wave is sexy as hell.

        • @sky blu: Damn straight.

        • +1

I have the blue rubber band version and the black stainless steel band version.

        • @garage sale: How have you been finding them so far?

  • +4

I've had my Casio MDV-106-1A for a few years now and I find it very comfortable. It's about $75.

    • +2

I own one too and have posted it in the past when Amazon would ship it here.
It's an awesome watch for the money, nothing else really comes close if you want a 200m quartz dive watch with a screw down crown.

Use code PICK5 for 5% off.

      • +1

Let me know if it ever happens again.

44mm though, how does it wear?

        • +1

I have a thick wrist and it sits beautifully.

        • +1

My wrist is almost 7 inches and it looks and feels fine to me.
If someone asked me to find them a quartz dive watch for around $100 or slightly higher I would still recommend this.

  • WatchNerd, the Citizen Promaster or Casio MDV-106-1A? Since you have both, which one is heavier and which 'feels' better when worn?

    • +1

They feel very similar in weight and even if one was slightly heavier it shouldn't be an issue, because you don't even feel them on your wrist after wearing a watch so often.

The Casio is close enough to 45mm, has a lower build quality, hopeless lume & isn't solar, so those points and the price should be the deciding factor between the two.

I like wearing both, but I guess you always feel better wearing a more expensive watch.

      • +2

You sure you're not in sales, my friend?

  • +1

Does this have a notification led?

    • +3

Kind of - When the battery is getting low the second hand skips a second to let you know it needs some sunlight

      • It get s charged with sunlight? Wow…

        • If it's like my Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster just leave it in the sun for a few hours once a month or so and you'll be fine. My Pulsar PX solar's the same.

  • +1

    Have it - love it

    • The Promaster has mineral crystal and is rated WR 200m so fine for diving. The Tissot has sapphire crystal and is rated WR 100m so fine for swimming not proper diving.

      • Which one will be easier care and daily wear?

        • +1

The Tissot is a particularly good price discovered by Member ilikeit but being an Automatic, it will one day need servicing, which rarely costs below $150 nowadays, though you could learn to DIY. It may not need a service for 20 years or more. There are many reports of an Eco-Drive giving over 20 years service, but they too can eventually stop functioning. The Tissot is much more likely to become a family heirloom.

  • Just saw the jomashop link above and went through it.

Pulled the trigger on this watch https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-watch-bl8140-55e.html

$262.50 USD delivered with join up $20 USD discount code which they email when you get onto their page.

Great looking watch. A replacement for a Promaster Eco-Drive which I have had for 8+ yrs, which recently broke down because I pulled the crown too hard and yanked it all the way out. Have no idea how much it cost to repair (Watch nerd-any experience on this. May have to take it to a local citizen repair shop to find out). The feature that I really wanted was perpertual calendar which will remove the need to change the date every 2nd month.

Also looked at this one https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-watch-at4008-51e.html which is not bad at $299 USD + delivery but not sure if the atomic time correction feature would work in Australia being away from US/London radio transmission (would it work for the other radio transmission sources located in Japan?). Looks really nice though.

  • Wouldn't you rather get a vacheron constantin?
    or Patek Phillpe

    • +1

Go ahead and submit a deal for them.

    • +3

Realistically, these prices are currently unbeatable, so will you be plus-voting Member WatchNerd's deal?

      • Yes of course
        I’m crazy about watches

  • +1

Hey WatchNerd. I already own a Citizen ORCA in Blue and I just pushed the button on the blue one here. Thanks for the deal info. ps. What is wrong with me?

    • +3

      So you'll plus-vote this deal?

    • +2

Blue one is awesome! Don't forget to show appreciation by voting on this deal.

      • +3

Oops. Done. Forgot in my excitement of buying yet another watch. This one makes 8.

        • +3

          Only 8? Welcome to Ozbargain.

        • +3

We all have to start somewhere.

  • +2

The Chinese Super Engineer is cheap now, usually these 2 links are around the same price -

    $23.21 shipped
    $36.70 shipped

    Thread: Chinese Super Engineer.
Pics on the Citizen Black BN0150-10E here and here.

  • I must be missing something. Why is one a lot more expensive?

    • That's a good question.

      • +1

WN, the black one is back in stock, even $1 cheaper. And with the current eBay 10% discount code, it's even cheaper now. Just wanted to let you know. :)
