    Great watch, great price

    • +3

Better get in quick, Seiko announced that they have discontinued the SARB033/SARB035/SARB017 models.

  • That code is for American ebay.

    • +1

      Use eBay.com

      • -1

Okay, I just have never have been able to use codes from America that’s why I said not available, seems to work now. And link was to eBay AU at the time.

    • Log into ebay.com find the watch and seller and code works and can be applied.

  • What exchange rate are you using to get AU $305.27, even the flat day rate is 253 USD = 321 AUD

    • I think the max discount is 50 USD. Anyone else getting this?

      • +2

Just saw this in the Conditions: "The discount will be applied to eligible item(s) only and will be capped at a value of $50"

        Where's MathNerd?

        • Thanks. Still a great price at 332.23 AUD with Paypal or 321 AUD closer to the day rate if your CC gives you that.

        • +2

@blairz1: Let me have a go at this.

          $250 x .80 = $200

          $303 - 200 = $53

          $200 + $53 = US $253 = AU $321.23

        • +1

          @ilikeit:

Great find and thank you for the effort posting. Its my third 6R15 movement in the box and 5th Seiko. At this price its an easy decision for a very well reviewed watch.

        • +2

          @ilikeit: I approve this comment1.

          1. Calculation

    • +4

I used XE.com to do the conversion. Don't let Paypal do the conversion, let your CC do the currency. PP conversion is notoriously bad. Let me know if the title needs adjusting and I'll so accordingly.

I think i paid $400 for mine a year and a half ago. Don't wear it any more. Smartwatch just does more stuff.

    • +9

      Sell it. Will move easily.

      • Would but it's a little beaten up (don't think I'd get that much money back in selling it) and I still use it sometimes if I forget to charge my gear s3 or if I have an exam or something where I can't use a smartwatch.

Don't know why I'm getting so much hate though.

        • It's just the traditionalists who are smart watch haters.

Get a cape cod and should be able to clean off the scratches. Or use one of those fine steel wool pads. Tape off the crystal if you're worried about it.

  • Do the Ebay gift cards work on eBay.com as well as Ebay.com.au? I’m at work and can’t test it :(

    • +4

I haven't completed the payment, however when testing the code I saw at checkout that my partially used gift card comes up as an option to use it as payment, so it appears to work.

    • +26

How adorable, thinks $300 is expensive for a Watch.

      • -6

Well, I wear a mi band 2 for a watch or use the phone.

Not sure why anyone would pay much more for a watch, except if they use it as a show of social status.

        • +18

Now apply that logic to cars or homes. We find them desirable. BTW, none of my friends have a clue what my watches cost. They actually comment on my cheaper ones. I buy them for me.

        • +8

          @ilikeit: Well said.

        • +2

Would you prefer velcro shoes (arguably better ease of use) or a pair of nice looking shoes with laces which are more of a hassle than velcro straps. A watch isn't just solely a tool, because then a phone will have the same functionality anyways.

        • @ilikeit:

How can one justify such a price for steak? It's bloody beef!

I think it's best to think it comes down to pure ignorance, as even people with lower financial status can appreciate luxury goods even if they can't afford it.

Though in this case it's primarily bought to show the time which is probably less of a "show of social status" compared to a far worse Daniel Wellington.

        • +1

          Lol i just bought a $15k watch!

          Lovingit too!

        • @Suspect420: What did you buy?

        • @quietsarcasm: Panerai Radiomir PAM 323. Attracted to the 10 day power reserve which is brilliant!

Lol 3rd Panerai. Love the look of them

        • @Suspect420: Nice choice. I probably wouldn't wear a Panerai myself but can definitely appreciate them. 10 day power reserve is insane

        • @Suspect420: Us OzBargainers naturally reject the sanity of buying a $15,000 watch - but that is a very tasteful slice on insanity you're just purchased. Beautiful watch.

        • @shorewalker:

I expect to hand down all my watches unless a need ever arises for money at which point you can always sell.

Worst case you lose 50% if you take care of it.

Best case the watch appreciates as it can get discontinued OR gathers a huge backing increasing demand.

          Next one is a Hublot!

        • @quietsarcasm: Yes, they are big watches. It's part of the appeal. I have wide wrists so find anything below 45mm looks very feminine.

Can't wear any Rolex's for that reason. Would still love a Rolex Hulk though

        • @Suspect420: Yeah, the sunburst green on the dial and ceramic bezel is mesmerizing. I would be after a Milgauss myself if I had the budget for it.

      • Paid around $400 to fix my Swiss watch band and few extra links

        • +1

          Username does not check out.

      • I grew up as a chimney sweep in the old country, and still hold on to the maxim shared by my brothers at the time that "$300 is a lot for a watch". BTW what's "black lung"?

    • +3

Your wife will be a real fan of that attitude toward jewellery.
I'd hate for you to see the stuff I get my wife given you think $300 for an item that you can wear every day, and will last many decades if you treat it right, is somehow extremely expensive.
These watches are absolute bargains for their quality, and at a good bit less than I paid for my cocktail time.

    • +1

Frequently an automatic watch is double the cost of a top quality quartz watch.

      • are you talking about the butt ugly g shock?

    • I understand where you're coming from, and certainly won't be criticising you, but for some of us with a little money left over after feeding the fish and paying child maintenance, we quite like a top quality watch.

And as noted by PJC many of these are automatics, a bit of an acquired taste but very compelling by some of us that appreciate the engineering of the movements. That's worth paying for in the circumstances many people find themselves in.

There's a bit of money in it, but given the engineering and quality they are not necessarily 'expensive'.

      Cheers zapy.

  • I have the white one - I love it but wished I got the black one. Awesome price

  • I like their solar watches best

    • +2

Have you seen the range of Citizen Eco-Drives?
I would say they dominate the market in terms of solar watches.

Looks like a 20% off discount also applies to the SARB017 (alpinist) which is a classic. Styling not for everyone obviously but a stunning watch.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/SEIKO-SARB017-Mechanical-Alpinist-A…

Highly recommend any SARB line Seiko watch. Amazing quality automatics for their price. Poor mans Grand Seikos.

    • +1

It's at the bottom of the post. Cocktail Time too.

      • So it is! Good work.
I've got that cocktail time myself. It's my daily wear. Stunning watch. My only suggestion is if anyone gets one, replace the strap. It's fine and looks nice, but isn't terribly durable and the clasp loves to come apart if the wind blows on it or a pigeon looks at it in the wrong way.

    • +1

holy moly that is an incredible price for the alpinist. I already have one !!! Too bad I miss out on a bargain opportunity.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Brilliant bargain for amazing watches.

  • +3

I should add, the cocktail time at the bottom is the original cocktail time, the JDM model. Not the re-release they've done recently under the Presage line. I'm not sure of any significant differences other than some of the writing on the dial.

    • +1

The new Presage has an inferior movement. However, there are more variations and complications. You can now get a power reserve or a handmade enamel dial. Can get over the ugly "PRESAGE" font on the dial though. Much prefer the original, "Automatic" font.

      https://www.seiko-presage.com/

Also a read on WatchUSeek - NEW and UPCOMING Seiko watches

    • The crown is different on the newer Presage release. I prefer the newer crown, but with the old face.

  • +7

I posted this deal a couple of days ago, but was unpublished by mod.

Henry, I want to buy my Nigerian bride, JV, a diamond wedding ring. Can you help?

  • +3

Just got this watch serviced at Seiko Melbourne. It costs $250. I love the watch however and has a lot of sentimental value so I don't mind paying, but bewear!

    • That's JUST reasonable enough, did they repolish the case and everything as well? Always wondered what the official boutique charges for this sorta thing.

    • +1

That seems a bit high to me. Do you know exactly what was done?

    • +1

Wondering as well, what was included in the service?

      • I'll have to dig the receipt up when I'm home but I know the watch was regulated and serviced. After 2 years, it was gaining about 2 minutes a day. I had worn it every day for those 2 years so I wasn't too surprised.

They did not touch the case or the watch band however. I didn't really know anywhere else to get it serviced other than The Little Collins Street store so I may have been ripped off but what can you do?

        • +2

After 2 years, it was gaining about 2 minutes a day.

Isn't there a tiny screw next to a + and minus, or a needle next to A and R? If so, to slow it, adjust in the direction of - or R (Retard, as opposed to Avance). First consider what you suppose the maximum possible adjustment may be, and instead of maximum, adjust by 5% and close the case. After a couple of days, if that was insufficient, try another 5% and repeat every couple of days until you are satisfied.

        • +1

@PJC: Yeah I did think that but apparently the beat was not regular. "All over the shop" according to the technician haha.

It had been dropped on tiles early on in its life so I'm not surprised.

I also didn't want to ruin the waterproofing so thought it was best to let someone else do it.

        • +2

@diondai1: He would say that. He told it is a nice watch too.

  • Made in Japan is now the only "made in _____" that means anything to me. Even made in Germany had lost sway with me.

    • +1

"Made in Japan" is not like "Swiss made."

USA has a different formula for what is regarded a Japanese watch than Japan has.

    • Made in Japan is now the only "made in _____" that means anything to me.

Even that doesn't mean much, once you start researching it online you will see nothing is what it seems.

      • +1

As long as the QC is done in Japan I'm happy

        • I wonder how much of the lower/mid spec parts are manufactured in Malaysia or China and cased in Japan?

  • Have a SARB033 that I got on seiyajapan a few years ago, really solid watch. Goes equally well (if not more so) with a nice brown leather strap.

  • Thanks OP. At that price, I couldn't resist adding the SARB033 to my collection.

I'm not a fan of bracelets for everyday use. I'm thinking a nice tan leather strap would go nicely. Any recommendations?

Also, any thoughts on a good ostrich strap for the Alpinist?

        • @obi1: Sorry, not my style so I'm not sure.

      • +1

Best watch straps i have ever bought are by Aaron Pimtel in Canada. Handmade and perfect.

    • The Hadley Romas are fine, or you could go nuts and buy a Fluco Vigo (https://www.ebay.com.au/i/331734552344) - beautiful, eye-catching, durable and supremely comfortable on the wrist.

  • Highly recommend putting a Seiko Pepsi bracelet on these.

  • Hmm should I buy this or the Naviforce 9044?

    • +1

The crowd has spoken - pound for pound the Naviforce hands down.

    • No brainer. Get the Navi and heck get one for the neighbour as well!

      • Get one for the whole street!

    • Obviously the Seiko is far better.

      • Yes, i can confirm this.

    • I have the Navi and the 035. The 035 gets a lot more wrist time.

  • For anyone consider the skx009k2, i suggest get the skx009j1 instead, different is j1 is made in Japan,Will hold better value, and k2's bracelet is not good quality said by many reviwers, will get a after market one anyway.
