I think this is a great price for this little computer. Not a high end performer but for the average user more than enough.
Don't see many laptops with Full HD+, 256GB SSD and 8GB Ram around rhis price.

After digging in deeper into it, the m3 in the description is wrong and i have just copy&pasted from the original listing. It is actually a m5 cpu

    • just fyi you can edit the title…

I manage a few of these at work, beware they suffer from what I call the "white light of death". The light next to the camera will come on and the device wont. I've had to warranty at least 10 out of the 20 we bought for a pilot project.

    • +6

wow maybe some of this listing are actually those of what you had sent back haha

Surface pro has lots of issues as well, so hard to find a product perfect, macbook is nice

      this?
I've got my Miix 700 for three days now and bearly used it. I was in the middle of writing an Email when suddenly the screen turned grey and nothing responded. I've pressed the power buttun to shut down the device and sience then the computer won't turn back on. Nothing!!! All I get is the little light at the top of the screen and no other signs of life. The light won't turn off until I long press the power button once more.

      • +1

        That's the one.

The Miix510 is a better device if you can find one for cheap.

        • thanks. but actually i promised myself to get chromebook instead. just hating windows so much. constant updates… memory hogs

    • Yep this happened to the one I bought brand new after around 2-3 months

  • if only 2 years i might bite
This product comes with a 12 months warranty against manufacturing faults and defects. Warranty is managed by GraysOnline.

Nothing wrong with 12 months warranty. Can't expect better warranty than what you usually only get for a new product !

      • If it's a new laptop, your statutory warranty would be at least two years for a low-end laptop, and three years for a higher-end one.

For a refurb, 12 months seems defensible.

So, it's worth factoring that in when you consider a refurb. It may have an identical stated manufacturers' warranty as the new product, but your ability to claim a repair under the Trade Practices Act will certainly be different.

        • Rubbish. You do NOT get 2-3 years+ warranty as standard for a laptop.

        • @redcreek200:

Under the Australian Consumer Guarantee, you are entitled to a “Statutory Warranty”, covering a “reasonable period”.

For laptops, phones and TVs, this is 2-3 years.

The ACCC took Apple to court over this, and Apple was found guilty of breaching the Australian Consumer Law for only covering laptops for 12 months. Apple quickly increased the warranty to two years, and will cover you for up to three years if you insist on your rights.

I’ve had a phone, a laptop and a TV (from three different retailers) serviced when out of warranty under this provision. If the retailer refuses, call the ACCC, and they will take them to the cleaners.

Wow this is cheap. I don't need it, but I'm so tempted to buy it.

sold out, there is a m3 one only $33X, a good option as well.

  • All gone, miss it again

  • These are excellent. I bought one for Christmas.

  • Better off with the Acer laptops when they come on special. Just under $500 about a year ago. But they're larger. 15 inch screen. Which to me is a plus but might not suit all.

    • +1

15" laptops are too big. If you're going to carry it around then you want a 14" or smaller. If you're not going to carry it around then (why are you buying a laptop?) you may as well get a 17" monstrosity.

      • I don't think 1 inch is as big a difference as you're suggesting. I own a 13 (old netbook), a 15 (5 year old PC) and a 17 and if I have the room in the car or on public transport I prefer the 17 because when I get there it's usable. The 13 is in my work bag and rarely comes out, not just because it's old.

  • damn was reading reviews then sold out

  • Just to annoy those who missed out, it isn't FHD, it's actually 2160 x 1440. I thought that at this size, it wouldn't matter, but it's my go-to machine for checking my photos out…

    • this is better than full HD 1920 X 1080

      • +1

        I know.

        • This is better than WXGA 1366x768.

          It is known Khaleesi?

      • +1

Only if you like higher battery drain and have excellent eyesight.

        • I am 63, can see the difference against my FHD asus and get ~ 8 hours use off it.

        • @terrys:

Congratulations on your fantastic eyesight. It's not unheard of at 63, but you're definitely doing well against the odds.

How large is your screen? We're talking 12" here.

Seeing the difference doesn't mean you get much in the way of benefit. Can the computer keep up with a UHD video? Can you get hold of one? And as for games, can the graphics card, other hardware and game all handle UHD and still run smoothly?

I'm not much of a gamer these days but I do take my photography seriously, and the main advantage I would expect would be if there was a single dead pixel it would be harder to notice, whereas at 1920x1080 they drive me nuts.

        • @syousef: A counterpoint would be that at my age, I wear reading glasses. The main advantage is in the almost subliminal aspect, in that fonts and edges are smoother and colour gradients and shades appear more vibrant. This could be because of the screen construction rather than pixel density, but I believe the correlation is directly comparable to that between the old newspaper/magazine text and photo resolution, tho not as extreme. I believe the main advantages are with edges and transitions which, while not directly obvious, are subject to quite a fair bit of retinal pre-processing before our brains get to assess the resulting composition.
I noticed a similar effect with the Nexus 10, which at 10" hardly seemed to warrant the high resolution, but it and the slightly later Sony tablets were a pleasure to hold and behold…

        • @terrys:

You can have a very wide variety in the quality and attributes of a display regardless of their resolution. At our house we have a 32 inch Dick Smith TV that has horrible viewing angles, a 42 Soniq with a much nicer panel and a 52" Sony. All 3 are Full HD. Let me tell you that the picture coming out of the Dick Smith TV doesn't compare to the larger Sony. The larger Sony has better viewing angles, contrast and colour regardless of settings for a start. It sounds like the Nexus 10 you have has a nice screen. I'd bet that it could also have a lower resolution screen that was nice and it is quite possible that you would like it just as much.

        • @syousef: Possibly, but what I was referring to was the metabolic cost, in that you and your eyes do not get as tired looking at a 4K screen of otherwise comparable quality as a FHD or HD one. That processing your eyes do is quite a large effort and the image that reaches the main part of your brain - what you "see" - has been subject to quite a lot of processing before it gets there. That goes a long way to explaining why lower resolutions can be a pain to use if you are looking at novel images, rather than familiar ones.

        • +1

          @terrys:

You're talking to someone, now middle aged, whose spent a lot of his life in front of a screen. As long as the text isn't blurry I've never had a problem with eye strain or brain strain with a lower resolution screen.

        • @syousef: I enjoyed driving minis, and loved my Sherpa but I don't begrudge the extra I spent on a HQ once.:-p

    • The screen is 3:2 and is so much better than 16:9

  • I've got the Samsung Tab Pro 6 which is a similar product. Had it over 12 months now and no issues. very happy with the easy of use and carrying around.

th m3 processor is pl;enty for browsing and watching videos.

battery life of 10+ hours makes it great for long flights where you don't have access to power.

    • Tried any gaming on it. I gumtree'd a Dell venue pro 11 with 4gb ram and an i5 4300Y for like $270 AUD all up delivered.

Don't expect much just a second backup device for maybe running extra stuff and experimenting with old school Windows games.

I wanna see it's power but lately a lot of decent machines have been popping up with better specs for good prices.

Handheld gaming for me is the way. Weird new obsession hobby.. I love pc but abstaining from it for some reason lol.

      • i doubt gaming would be fun. It has trouble sometimes with 4K X265 videos

  • missed :(
