Get a Free Month of Netflix for Existing Members if You Have Previously Subscribed for It Via Apple iTunes

101

I was previously subscribed to netflix via Apple Itunes (taking advantage of the 15-25% off itunes cards as a true ozbargainer would), I then cancelled my itunes subscription sometime in July last year so that I could take advantage of this deal. Now that I've used up all of my credits, I've decided to cancel my subscription and switch back to subscribing via apple itunes and was automatically given a 1 month free trial using my existing account.

Now I'm not sure how long you'd have to wait after cancelling your subscription via itunes in order to qualify for the free trial but I was last subscribed in July 2017 so it's definitely under a year. Just to clarify, you do not need to get a new account or change accounts as both my subscription via itunes and directly through netflix is for the same account.

So this is a bit of a hack and might not be worth it for those who are currently subscribed via itunes to cancel their subscription, wait for however many months and then resubscribe. However, if you've previously subscribed via itunes but are no longer doing that, it might be worth checking out to see if you qualify for the 1 month trial.

edit: BlackMonk mentioned that he was able to get the free trial one month after he cancelled.

  • only 2 screens free tho

    • You can get it on any of the plans, I just chose the 2 screens option because I can't be bothered changing it after my trial ends.

Forums? It's interesting information but who and how it applies is not clear.

  • Yep, I've cancelled last month, and now It's giving me a free month also, any of the 3 plans… 1 to 3 screens. Thanks!

    • That's good to know, means you only have to wait 1 month after cancelling to get the trial?

      • that i wouldn't know…, probably wait for more people to see…

  • Sounds like a forum topic for those that can be bothered cancelling then applying again to save ~$18.

username does not check out. Mate, people here go bananas over less and with more effort required.

True but it may also be targeted as there is no guarantee that you cancel today and wait a month and a free month offer will appear

But I still only pay $14.99 for my Ultra HD plan since they can’t put the price up via iTunes. A great bonus!

    • That's true, and if you can stock up on itunes cards when they're on 20% off, you're basically paying $12 vs the $18 RRP.

    • yeah I've noticed this too after I expected a price rise a few months ago, and it never eventuated. I wonder how long this loophole will last.

    • Serious? Can I change on to this plan from my normal sign up? I guess I could just create a new account..

  • I don’t even seem to have the option to use an iTunes account to pay Netflix subscription? I tried on iPad & iphone but when I try to update payment method I only have either credit card or Paypal as an option to choose from

    • In your itunes app, go to the bottom and click on your Apple ID -> View Apple ID -> Subscriptions.

I followed these steps to restart my subsription, doesnt give me an option of free trial. I went through netflix to restart my subscription, it's also asking me to pay, no free trial. I canceled my subscription last month

        • Yeah I'm not exactly sure on what qualifies you. Maybe if you've previously claimed for a free trial in itunes then you might not be eligible for it again?

        • @nix1016: yep the first month is always free when you sign up, then I paid after that.

        • @Oz8argain: Yes, I got my very first month free as well but it wasn't signed up via itunes so maybe that's why I'm able to claim it again.

  • I currently have some credit on Netflix account.
What happens to that if I cancel my subscription and then sign up under iTunes?

I'd probably pay the extra $1 and bump up to the 4k 4 screen option if it is only $14.99 via iTunes, after getting a 4k TV that is.

So really, Netflix would get more $ out of me :)

    • I'm not sure, but I wasn't able to use credits when I was subscribing from itunes so I probably wouldn't recommend switching across if you still have credits.

      • ok, thanks.

Will wait a couple of months to clear my remaining credit then.

When you say unable to use credits do you mean use the gift card things when using iTunes?
Usually get one when Coles or Woolies give bonus points.

        • No, I mean a coupon that gave me netflix credits, see the link in my original post that issued it (unfortunately it's no longer running). If you don't have any netflix credits then you can move across to itunes. You do have to cancel your current subscription and then resubscribe in itunes though. But you can keep your current account.

Nope, doesn't work. I last closed my subscription mid last year, and it just charged me to reactivate my account from within iTunes.

  • It does not work anymore.
