Singapore Airlines/Scoot Return to Athens Greece - $867 Sydney / $874 Melbourne / $896 Brisbane @ Flight Scout

220

We just scouted these great deals to Athens, Greece. Travel in Jul/Aug 2018 for Euro Summer.

Flights are via Singapore with a quick stop in Canberra for the outbound leg only when travelling from Sydney and Brisbane. Many journeys have a long stopover in Singapore on the outbound leg. For us that means an opportunity for shopping and chilli crab at Marina Bay.

Singapore Airlines are a full service airline so meals, luggage and seat selection are included in the fare. All prices quoted are for return fares and include fees and taxes. Some payment types may incur an additional fee.

Singapore to Athens leg is operated by Scoot, the low cost carrier of the Singapore Airlines Group. Check-in baggage and hot meal will be included on this leg of the journey.

Note - All flights in journey have an SQ# flight number. This is not a Scoot product.

Below is a sample of Singapore Airlines best fares + travel dates to Athens.

Flight Scout, powered by Skyscanner, searches for the best fares on any route. Looking for something else? visit http://flightscout.co/au/ and search for your preferred destination.

Mod removed my last comment for pointing out Scoot is not Singapore Airlines.

This is still a very average deal. Scoot is a very budget airline, would be far better off spending around $1000 for Qatar/Etihad or even a Chinese airline

    • +6

Think you will struggle (no chance) To find Athens return on one of those airlines for $1000 in July/aug peak period

    • +4

      Hi Stirlo,

It is a Singapore Airlines product with 1 of the legs each way operated by Scoot who are owned by the Singapore Airlines group. You will check-in at the Singapore Airlines counter and receive lounge access between flights if you are a Frequent Flyer.

If the below post got as much love as it did and it was only flying Scoot with no luggage or meals - then this for a similar price, with luggage and meals and half the journey on a Singapore Airlines plane must be as good a deal?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269203

      • It's a Singapore airlines codeshare - a VERY different thing to being a Singapore airlines product.

      • You should be careful with that assumption. I just got back with Scoot and noticed that the carousel showed both SQ and TR codes so a code share flight.

What happens if there is a mishap on the Scoot/SA leg? You'll probably have to deal with Scoot and not SA. The ones who paid SA will probably get more love from their rep than the ones who paid Scoot. I wonder what the SA passengers will think of the spartan decor. Maybe they'll have been bribed with lower fares.

I would not put together a long itinerary with a mix of distinct budget airlines, unless there is leeway for stopovers. I either go full service or stick with one carrier, then the single carrier has to get me there if one leg has a mishap. For me it's not worth it to lose a day or days from my vacation.

There was no problem with my TR flight except arriving 12 mins late due to late take off. But I hear others have had bad luck. Dreamliner is nicer because engines are quieter. The flight was so-so and the food was blah, but they have a monopoly on the plane.

On the flight I was thinking SQ should be the code of Sqoot Airlines, hahaha. Ah, the meanderings of a bored mind.

    • I have gone to Europe via Tokyo/Seoul/Singapore and via Abu Dhabi . Never had jet lag via Asia but had it bad via Middle East. Scoot is a gift for me

  • Hi rep, is the $896 price the total cost, or are there any hidden charges, e.g. Booking fees, credit card charges etc that will bump this up?

If so, is there any way for a customer to avoid those charges?
    Cheers

    • The price quoted is the total fare.

    • +1

As far as I'm aware Scoot still charge significant credit card fees ($20+) well in excess of the restrictions placed upon local companies (max of 1.5%) by the recently introduced Excessive Payment Surcharge laws.

I contacted Scoot late last year about it and they said they could charge whatever they wanted as they're an overseas company and aren't beholden to Australian laws, even though they conduct business here. I contacted the ACCC who said a loophole was built into the legislation to exclude companies that do business through overseas banks.

      • I'm guessing the downvote is an expression of disappointment by the Store Rep for uncovering their subterfuge.

"The price quoted is the total fare."

And the $15 "Merchant Surcharge"? Is that not part of the total fare?

        • +1

Thanks for this reply. Somebody's not telling the truth here. I wonder who… Lol

        • +1

          @clandestino:

For clarification these flights would be booked with Singapore Airlines, Scoots booking fees are not relevant in this situation.

The prices shown on Flight Scout are sourced from Skyscanner and are the bookable fare. Skyscanner do a lot of work with the travel agents and airlines to ensure the prices they display in search results are bookable.

        • You really are a slippery one aren't you.

For clarification, the fee is present when booking direct on Singapore Airlines website.

        • @soothslayer:

The price quoted on Skyscanner will always be a bookable fare meaning you can buy it at that price, generally with a debit card. As the description says some payment options incur an extra charge.

Singapore airlines is great. I would not trust Scoot. Booked a flight in September last year from Syd to Singapore. Sat at Sydney airport for 6 hours with extremely limited information. Flight departure Syd to Singapore scheduled for 12:30pm. At 6 pm told flight was cancelled. Come back tomorrow. Very poor communication in the 6 hours. Was told I could get a refund less a percentage for charges or turn up tomorrow. We decided to book with Qantas. Applied for refund. That was Sept 2017. I am still waiting 5 months later. Multiple emails and a few telephone calls to Singapore. Emails are unanswered. Telephone calls - on hold for 30 minutes plus and then get told - we are working on it. Not impressed with Scoot and would never fly with them again.

    • Hi ypi,

This is a Singapore Airlines product so they will be responsible for ensuring you get there, not Scoot. If there are some problems Singapore Air would sort it out.

      • Nobody wants the issues in the first place, and scoot are known for cancelling/delaying flights

  • +2

Fair enough if Singapore airlines is your contact when something goes wrong. But my warning about Scoot still stand. In 6 hours, i think there were 2 announcements - "we have a technical problem". Their delayed flight policy on the website means nothing. "Scoot endeavours to notify our guests of significant delays and cancellations in a timely manner" - Really? "for delays beyond 3 hours, a SGD50 travel voucher will be yours" Really? A bottle of water at the least would be nice. A refund would be better

    • -1

This is a Singapore Airlines product with 1 leg operated by Scoot with the flight still having an SQ# flight number. Any issues would be handled by Singapore Airlines.

  • Agree on scoot. There has been numerous horror stories reported over the past few months. Clarification needed on which airline is issuing the ticket. I would not touch scoot with a barge pole now after all the stories of passengers getting stranded.Imo scoot is a classic case of you get what you pay for.

    • The ticket can be purchased on the Singapore AIrlines site and is considered a Singapore Airlines product with part of journey operated by Scoot. All flights have an SQ# flight number so any delays or problems would be handled by Singapore Airlines.

      • If there is a delay on the Scoot operated flights, it will be handled by Scoot (as operator) not Singapore Airlines. No different than if you booked an Emirates operated codeshare flight with Qantas.

        • The flight still has an SQ number and Scoot is owned by Singapore Airlines. If there are problems or delays you will be able to contact Singapore Airlines for resolution.

        • @flightscout:

Yup you're absolutely right, you will be able to contact SQ for any delays. But if you're in Athens and your return flight is delayed on the Scoot operated flight, you can contact SQ all you want but its Scoot who you are going to have to (and want to) deal with on the ground. No one from Singapore airlines or any of their reps are going to be on the ground in Athens.

        • @robbo135:

You won't need anyone on the ground for a resolution, just make a call to Singapore Airlines as the ticketing airline.

        • @flightscout:

LOL, yeh an operator in Singapore is going to help you get a food voucher in Athens airport.

Scoot is the operating airline, SQ will just refer you back to Scoot on the ground in Athens. SQ will be ultimately responsible for any compensation/losses, but you WILL be dealing with Scoot in the first instance.

You can keep flogging a dead horse, but the reality is, given Scoot are operating 3 of the 4 legs, you will be dealing with Scoot like it or not.

        • @robbo135:

You never know things may just run smoothly - Im looking at the last 3 months of flights on FlightRadar24 for that flight from ATH to SIN and no flights have landed more than an hour later than scheduled.

        • @flightscout:

Yeh that's great, what happens if the flight gets delayed?

You WILL be dealing with Scoot, contrary to what you've been saying in all your other posts. Your comments about simply calling Singapore Airlines who will deal with ANY issue is not what will happen in practice. But keep sugar coating everything, what's most important is getting that sale…

        • @robbo135:

Delays are a risk with any airline.

If a flight gets delayed you can do whatever you like 'in practice'. If it was a problem for me I'd call the ticketing airline for information and if I thought it needed compensation, pursue it with them.

The flight in question hasn't been delayed more than 50 minutes in the past 3 months.

If these things dont suit you and you don't want to fly in a Scoot plane then we recommend you don't pursue this deal.

        • @flightscout: You're getting all this pushback simply because you don't seem to understand codesharing (surprising considering you seem to run a flight finding website).

It's irrelevant if there's a SQ code on the flight. Scoot don't have a special section for SQ passengers, you're on a LCC and will be dealing with that carrier.

I have nothing against Scoot, but they are not equivalent to Singapore Airlines. No ifs, no buts.

        • @callum9999:

Thanks callum9999, we do understand code sharing.

If that plane back from Athens is delayed 1 day then Singapore Airlines will ensure you get home on another flight.

If these things did happen, which they haven't seemed to in the past 3 months, and if you think you need compensation you can pursue it with Singapore Airlines as they sold the ticket, you wouldn't be chasing Scoot.

        • @flightscout: That wasn't my issue, it's that you keep calling it a "Singapore Airlines product". It categorically is not.

        • -1

          @callum9999:

You can purchase it through Singapore Airlines directly with all flights having an SQ number. Any customer service is handled by Singapore Airlines, any issues or resolutions are through Singapore Airlines, all planes flown are in the Singapore Airlines Group. If thats not a ‘Singapore Airlines Product’ then we apologise.

        • +2

          @flightscout: But it's not a Singapore airlines plane…

It's not a Singapore Airlines product and your apology is clearly patronising and not sincere…

        • @flightscout:
So if you buy a Jetstar operated flight which has a Qantas code on it on the Qantas website, then clearly it is a 'Qantas product' since the planes flown are in the Qantas Group?

You are clearly misleading, it is a SQ ticketed fare not a 'SQ product', its a SQ product when all legs are operated by SQ, which in this case is only 1 out of the 4 legs.

  • I think for under 900 return to europe nobody is expecting full SQ flights. Caveat emptor. For comparison i secured Qatar airways flights return for 1.2k. Albeit not the same period.

We just scouted these great deals to Athens, Greece.

Thanks for letting us know where Athens is. Are you American?

  • +2

Haven’t you people heard of travel insurance? It doesn’t even have to be expensive.

This is a good price for a flight to Europe during their summer and if you’re really worried about problems then get decent travel insurance. Likelihood is nothing will go wrong and you’ll have a great time. If something does go astray, use your insurance.

And, thanks for sharing the deal OP, I appreciate it!

    • +1

Glad you enjoyed it, we think it’s a great deal :)

    • +2

Scoot are new planes, well designed interior and seats. Enjoyed it a lot more than the Singapore leg of the journey. I too booked via Singapore last year and the add ins were all included - layover scoot thru, meals, etc. Athens airport staff were all Greek and very experienced and professional.

      • Thanks for the feedback.

Scoot are the first airline in the world with all Dreamliner 787’s, we are very keen to try this trip ourselves.

        https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/us/travel-info/partner-ai…

        • It doesn't have an all 787 fleet. It also has A320's as a result of its merger with Tigerair.

        • @robbo135: somehow I don't think they'll be flying an A320 to Athens

  • For Scoot service, better read all the media releases and reviews and make up your own minds….

  • +1

I can recommend scoot. Flew to and from athens last july. Perfect flight. New clean plane. Mostly empty. Lady in athens gave us premium seats for free, for singapore and melbourne legs. No food but who cares. We bought yummy greek food at athens airport to eat on plane. If you want to waste money on premium airlines, your choice. Id rather spend the cash on the holiday…
