Nice find BA! Amazing price for a 31.5" IPS

  • +1

    Any good for gaming?

    • +2

      If you're fine with 60hz it's decent.

      • +4

IMO a 144hz monitor makes gaming a lot smoother IF you have a PC that can run games at high FPS (or if not, you are willing to tune down the visuals to get higher FPS).

You would have to get a TN panel for a 144hz monitor in this price range. A 144hz IPS panel will set you back an arm and a leg currently.

The colours are truer on an IPS panel and the viewing angles are better.

The response times are generally lower on a TN panel, but it's not that noticeable with IPS monitors these days (this one is only 3ms for example, compared to 1ms on a TN panel).

    • +1

      No.

    • +1

      It's a bit big for 1080p imo.

The biggest I would want for that res is 24".

  • +22

1080p…..rather pay 40 bucks more for an AOC 1440p IPS….

    • Link please…

        http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Q3279VWF

        $299 from MSY

I too agree that it'd be silly not to pay the extra bit of dosh for 2560x1440.

This monitor however will do fine for people just wanting entertainment (such as console gaming) for productivity you'll want a higher resolution.

        • +4

Nit picking but that monitor is not IPS, it has a VA panel. Just got one recently myself, is excellent for the price despite a few drawbacks.

        • +1

What are those drawbacks? I'm looking to buy something similar

        • +3

@scrimshaw: The panel has some pretty slow black to white transitions. You will see smearing in dark scenes, and trailing when going from dark to light content. Also, the stand is wobbly, and you can't replace it as there are no VESA mounting holes. Aside from that it's pretty decent.

          @thatguyfromthatplace:

Cheers. Dnn't know much about monitors so need to be schooled hard.

        • @Icecold5000:

Bottom line - The AOC is good enough if you aren't into serious gaming.

The AOC has excellent colour reproduction too with 100% sRGB.

I would pick the AOC over the Philips.

        • +1

I don’t even own any consoles that output higher than 1080p.

        • @scrimshaw: VA Panels:

[-] Colour shift (when you move away from the middle)
[-] Input lag tends to be higher than IPS, and certainly higher than TN, Some can be really laggy

[+] Great blacks and higher contract ratio (compared to IPS and TN)
[+] Viewing angle is better than TN
[+] Less likely to get dead pixel

For me, the colour shift can be quite annoying.

        • +1

          @paralleltwin:

They are referring to the alternate monitor, AOC Q3279VWF, having a VA panel.

Yes the Phillips BDM3201FD is IPS.

        • Grabbed one of those AOC Q3279VWF from shopping express.

        • @mg_k:

Which would you recommend for gaming cabinet with raspberry pi with emulators?

        • @AustriaBargain: Unlike me. Mine is lucky to do 720.

          Anything else is too real

        • @mg_k:

          Thanks for reply

        • Cheers, grabbed one of those AOC Q3279VWF from shopping express.

$291 delivered is nice for a 31.5" QHD display.

This will be a nice monitor for my dev machine.

        • @iDroid: Had one of these for a while.

The screen is great, but the sound is shite
          No VESA mount
Hard to use controls made worse by a wobbly stand

Amazing how close to stellar a product can be but they have to keep making the same mistakes and persist in re-inventing the wheel just to make a new model. I'd settle on a good, minimal bezel, and just upgrade the internals and the rear case to accommodate the internal changes- and of course, retain the vesa mount, doh!

        • @zerovelocity: Yep, sound like some improvement there.

I just want it for my dev monitor - so it'll sit still and never move or need adjustment.

As long as the screen is large, high res and clear - I'm happy!

        • @iDroid: Fine for one input.

I'd still get a VESA version with a non pedestal stand, if I did it again. But it scrolls VGA>DVI>HDMI>DP so 4 presses to go round the bush leaves your screen groovin' aroun' like a circus clown.

I switch a bit. Considering affixing some rods to stop that stupidity. Maybe I'll pop the bexel off and see if I can't liberate the buttons onto the front panel where I can see them too.

    • How’s this monitor to connect a ps4 pro to ?

      • Via HDMI. Works with an Xbox One or PS4. I'd go buy an AOC as mentioned above for a few bucks more. Worth it IMO.

        • -1

Why if consoles output at 1080 only

        • @Ozvalue:
          PS4 Pros output at 4k (2160p)

    • Nice. Of only we could get g-sync at that price instead of freesync.

  • +1

I reckon MSY have this one for 245 http://www.msy.com.au/monitor-size-27/20740-philips-ips-ads-…

MSY don't have free or fast delivery though, or Afterpay.

Is this monitor really all that good? I want an IPS screen to use in my bedroom as a display for games consoles when the main TV is in use, using headphones for sound or maybe buy a HDMI audio splitting device and plug in some cheap PC speakers.

    • depending on your luck. OW will price match.

  • It's a bit thick.

    • +8

      That's what she said

  • If Msy has this one? then we can price beat with Office works?

    • Quite possible but give a try to call customer care as its online & C&C option at OW
and let us know so i will update post

      • Tried calling, no pick up.
Just did a quick search on local store in SA and its showing out of stock

        • OW Store doesn't have stock as its online CC/Delivery offer only.. Try this at much lower price $227.75 shipped from Kogan, explained by stuhtb

        • @Being Askhole:

          Thank mate

  • +16

$245 at PC Case Gear, but that's only an option if you're in Vic and select store pick up during the checkout. As mentioned above, it's also $245 at MSY.

    Kogan have this listed for $279, but you can it get for ~$227 through this method;

    1. Purchase a $50 off $120 Kogan voucher from eBay or the classifieds page. The lowest I can see on eBay is for $8.75.
    2. Create a new Kogan account via this page to get $10 in credit.
    3. Make sure you have signed up to Shipster with the same email, so you can get free shipping.
    4. Total should be $227.75 shipped (279+8.75-50-10)

Huge thanks buddy.. Great effort.. I have updated this so if anyone wants to try this option. :)

      • +2

        Also, free shipping may not be available for all postcodes if the shipping cost is more than $20. Here are the shipping costs for some postcodes;

        VIC: 3000 - $13.93
        NSW: 2000 - $15.69
        ACT: 2600 - $24.50
        QLD: 4000 - $18.21
        SA: 5000 - $15.19
        WA: 6000 - $23.76
        TAS: 7000 - $26.76
        NT: 0800 - $36.07

The ones in bold are not eligible for free shipping, but it may vary for each postcode.

nice work buddy.. thanks for heads up..

    • Lol, don't even bother on Ozbargain classifieds. Some idiot was selling them $12 each a couple weeks ago. More expensive than eBay with a free dominoes pizza.

  • Would this be a decent option for a “portable” (transportable) TV for a Nintendo Switch?

Or better to grab a cheap 40-42” TV instead?

    • I think it might be, Switch docked is only 1080p anyway. And you won't get an IPS at 40" cheap. I just noticed this has built in speakers, and presumably a built in headphone jack. The built in speakers I bet sound garbage but plug in any kind of speaker into that headphone jack and I bet it sounds just fine.

I bought this monitor recently when Ebay had a 20% sale. Rang Officeworks to price match and 5% off and staff said ran out.Submit my order from Futu online. It has HDMI plus VGA etc and built-in speakers. However, power button and connectors are at the back and very fiddly to play around. Quite a good screen. Very happy with computer work and watching movies.

31" @ 1080p sitting at a close distance as you do with a PC monitor looks kinda "meh" to be honest.

    • It depends on the condition of your eyes. For me, using one right now to type this, it is perfect.

      • +5

        Should've gone to specsavers =p

        • I did.

  • Was cheaper recently at jw.com.au. ~$220 including delivery. Fine for an office monitor but not great for gaming.

  • How is this monitor better than a 32" Sony LCD 1080P TV connected with HDMI for general office work not gaming?

I'm trying to move away from 2 24" inch monitors, will this be a good replacement or too large?

Please suggest alternatives if this is not suitable.

    Thanks

    • 2 monitor is better than one for general office work. One with word and another with something else.

    • 32 + 24 would be very nice for office work. Two 32s require A LOT of deskspace

  • I bought this last year to use in the bedroom with a Chromecast because it has speakers. It's okay for the price.

I would say 2560x1440 is a minimum at this size. I upgraded from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 at 27" and I can absolutely tell the difference - text is sharper, it's easier on the eyes and you get heaps more real estate. Given there are 1440p options around for not much more (i.e. around $50 or so more), I would go with that.

I would say that the difference from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 is bigger than that from 2560x1440 to 4K just because with 4K, you get things sharper, but you don't get much more desktop space due to having to use scaling (otherwise everything is tiny).

  • I have two of these as my dual monitor desktop setup when it was on sale for $249 like a year ago. Mostly for coding and youtubing and they are doing a great job, also occasionally used for PS4 so the 1080p is not really an issue for me. However, if I had an option between $279 1080p and $299 1440p, I would definitely go for the latter one. I am now very tempted to buy a 1440p as an external monitor for my MBP.

However, I got no space for another monitor at home now. Two 32' monitors look great but they also require a bigger desk or some solid mounting rack. My desk is 140cm wide and it barely fits two 32' monitors

    • -2

      Two 32' monitors look great

It seems like every TV deal, somebody mixes up feet and inches. Why is it so hard?

      • @manic: It's ozbargain mate not usabargain

  • Pretty extreme saving $7 aye. I love it haha.
