Harvey Norman Spend $500 or More and Get Back 10% Back in Gift Cards

70

I heard on the radio(and now on the TV too) that harvey norman is having a store wide special with store-wide best price. So that menas that they should have some pretty good deals. And also if you spend $500 or more you will get 10% of the amount back in harvey norman gift cards.

so possible good for any thing that is already heavily discounted like the PS3 +GT5 487+extra controller for $58

(remember u have to pay the full amount but you will get 10% gift card value.

Also good for macs and ipads?

and a price match should bring down the prices even more. remember harvey norman has a price beat policy.

I can't really see how this is a bargain considering Harvey Norman is generally 10% more than everywhere else anyways.

  • What is store wide best price?

Harvey Norman is a ripoff 85% of the time, OK 10% and very good value 5% of the time.

yes i agree. but some things are quiet discounted at harvey norman. like the PS3 +gt5 for $487 and an extra controller for $58 and you have got 10% gift card.

I 100% agree. Nothing but a whinging old man who likes a free market when it suits him but cry's foul when a small percentage of shoppers wake up to the pricing scams retailers participate in in this country.

    • Interesting article. Gerry seems to be desperate and wanting to copy others even more now (Myer, Kogan, etc). Why would anyone buy from a HN online site when we can go direct without his proven large overheads? …and didn't he try to brainwash everyone by telling them not to buy "online" a couple of weeks ago?
"Online = overseas = no jobs for Australians" What spin/rubbish. Has he seen how many people Australians sell online now who cant afford to build a chain of stores? They are retailers too! Maybe he should practice what he preaches if he is so worried rather that showing his leadership by following.

"The big products are clothes and shoes, accessories and cosmetics, so if we went into it we might look at selling some of those products online" What is he smoking? Anyone remember his Officeworks killer, Ofis? I think the media need a new retailer for generic filler comments in their news stories. lol

    • Puzzled. Harvey Norman sells cosmetics and clothes?

I thought most of their business was large electrical, like TVs, fridges, and dishwashers.

Also, I thought they sold furniture.

      • No (not yet anyway). He (Gerry Harvey) was saying (spinning?) in the original article that that's what they would look at going into as that's what people are buying from overseas and it's below the point where they would otherwise have to pay GST. ie, "Mr Harvey said his offshore website would most likely not sell large whitegoods, such as washing machines or televisions, as they typically sell for above $1000 and attract the GST."

        • Thinking it might be the business model, if they really are having trouble … the inability to find more sales people to pay to work for them

Speaking of Harvey Norman going into online sales … here's an article from last year, after Harvey Norman said their business model was better than JB HiFi's … and the writer said that Harvey Norman's model has glaring faults including … no online sales

          http://www.channelnews.com.au/Comment/A5E3X6H3

        • Also, with the Free Trade agreement, I thought the government is not allowed to charge GST on goods from overseas.

Mr Kogan's business is called the main direct seller of electronic goods for Australia?

erm … is that backed by statistics on sales or … ???

  • Quite a good deal if harvey norman could use the price beat policy.
I can't find the offer anywhere on their site, what's the offer called?

  • Good if u can haggle a laptop down in price and get 10% gift card to buy a mouse or something

  • I also heard about this on the radio (It's for tomorrow only is it not?), I will try them for a price beat on the Sony PSP JB have for $199.00 right now, and I will report back to see how I go (I WILL withhold my vote until then), I am obviously referring to the "storewide sale' as opposed to the gift vouchers, as you have to spend $500.00 or more.

  • Damnn just bought ps3 with gt5 and a extra controller.

  • Everyone always seems so cynical about HN. The just don't bother discounting much and instead allow you to bargain with them. They instead leave most things at RRP and let you bargain for the better price. It means it's a bit of fun and the service you get at HN is far better than most other places

    • Sounds like your service experience may fortunately have been different to many others (incl mine). Each store is a franchise so the culture is shaped by the franchise owner. It's more fun at HN when you're knowledgeable about an area and play dumb to hear their sales spin. Good Guys generally offer a much better experience for those who enjoy bargaining without so much con.

        • Most of that is just totally wrong. Pretty much all of it.

I have worked in, and as a supplier to, Harvey Norman and this isnt even close to correct.

Sales people do not pay rent or any such nonsense. They are paid the basic retail wage plus commission. This includes 2ics. Even the franchisees are paid a basic wage (~45k+car from memory). Obvoiusly the franchisee aims to make much more than that by running a profitable business.

      • -> Duff5000

        thanks for the correction.

I'm having trouble digging up the original sources I read.

I apologize to ozb1, daydream and everyone if I've reported erroneous material :(

No problem. Rereading what i wrote i didn't mean for it to come across so bluntly. It was just people were replying accepting it as fact so i thought i better set the record straight so to speak.

I dont work there or a supplier any more. I just have a pretty good understanding of their internal systems after 5 years or so working there.

I think what is hard for many people to wrap their head around is that each department in the store is normally a different franchise. So there is often 3+ franchises, 3+ seperatly registered businesses under the one roof (electrical, furniture, electrical ect.)

    • Agree, the only 'good' service experience I ever got was at the Hoppers Crossing HN, I was buying a vacuum, and the girl there was VERY agreeable!, I am not 'into' asians, but this one was not bad at all.

    • That's price discrimination.Well done HN.

    • thanks mate. have no clue how you managed to find that link

  • That works out as a bargain on the 360

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973313672/xbox--g…

250gb with kinect, kinect adventures and a choice of other kinect game. $468 grab another game or somehting for $32 and get a $50 gift voucher.

  • Got the PSP GO for 190.00 did not haggle much, just showed the JB brochure and the guy said I can do it for 190.00, I was going to buy it for 199.00 from JB anyway so I just bought it for the 190.00, $9.00 saving was OK.- Highpoint/Maribyrnong Harvey Norman.

  • Guys, I saw a piece of paper at the counter, stating that the 10% gift vouchers offer is NOT valid on Apple products and other brands, unlike what the deal description from Xavierdylan says;
"Also good for macs and ipads?".

I would give them a call before heading down, just in case you are planning on buying one or some of these excluded brands. come on Harvey! exclusions are NOT cool!

  • OK stopped by tonight and got the following:

    250GB 360 with kinect & kinect adventures bundle @ $478
+ bonusyourshape fitness evolved (they said i could choose any game of that value but the wife wanted this)

    Also grabbed
    Dantes inferno for $28
Need for speed SHIFT for $16

    Total :$522
They round up the gift vouchers to a $50 and a $10
They let me use the vouchers to pay for some of the unit.

So all up i paid $462 for the lot!! Bargain.
