Epic price. Thought $206 from GeekBuying was stellar but this takes it to a new level

    • Is this 188usd

      • +5

        No, AUD.

        • +3

Thanks op. How does this compare to 4x features

        • @sivshen:
Seems like it's just the Redmi Note 4 but with 18:9 screen. And possibly different bands.

    • bah humbug….just ordered the $206 deal.
      Nice find OP

  • Is there a "prime" version of this? Nice size and battery but wouldn't mind a little more storage and ram

    • +2

There is a 64GB/4GB model which may be of interest, but not currently on sale.

  • Is it International / Global ROM ? How is the camera quality ?

    • +3

Reviews are pretty positive, some rating it the best camera in this price category

And based on the product description its global

    • If it's anything like the Redmi 4 that I have, the camera is fine for daylight use. Night time shots have poor detail. It's got nothing on my wife's LG G5 camera.

  • +10

it continues to baffle me as to why xiaomi released a version of the redmi note 3 that had band 28 and since then have released no variants of any of their budget successors with it. one of these with band 28 would be an absolute killer in australia.

    • It was a phone for Taiwan.

      • +1

…whose major carriers still use band 28, so my wonderment is valid. :)

        • Less sales maybe even though the note 4 had a Taiwan variant with band 28. Wtf Ness.

        • Even the Taiwanese version of Redmi Note 4 does not support B28

          GSM
          850/900/1800/1900 MHzpho
          TD-SCDMA 1900/2000 MHz (B34 / B39)
          FDD-LTE B1 / B2 / B5 / B8 WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz (B1 / B2 / B5 / B8) B3 / B5 / B7 / B8
          TDD-LTE B38 / B39 / B40 / B41

          http://www.mi.com/tw/redminote4/specs/

It seem Xiaomi do not care about B28 on their budget Redmi line.

Only the most expensive Xiaomi model, the Mi Mix 2 supports B28. But will you spend AUD600 on a Xiaomi phone.

        • How would this phone perform in the Philippines? Do they use band 28?

    • Their main markets are China and India, a couple of billion people. Why should they give a monkeys about band 28 and an Australian population of 20 odd million, a tiny fraction of whom are even aware of the brand?

      • I don't expect them to care about Australia but I am surprised they once cared enough about the Taiwanese market to offer a band 28 version of the redmi note 3, then promptly gave up from the redmi note 4 onwards.

  • No fast charge and is it running on android 7 or 8 however this is a tempting price

    • -3

      MIUI9

      • +2

MIUI is a skin, not an Android version.

        • Which is the operating system it is running. Or are you saying he can change skins..?

        • +3

          @Maxx Power:
MIUI is a little deeper integrated than a skin (like Samsung's touchwiz)
I think this is running MIUI9 on Android 7.1

        • Yes, MIUI is a skin but it's a little more than skin deep..

    • Are you hoping to find a phone running on Android 9 in the present time?

  • +1

I am using Xiaomi redmi note 3 with snapdragon 650, 3g ram and 32g rom.
    Is snapdragon 625 an upgrade?
I can see now that with DHL shipping, gold option is only USD$166.99.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Red…

    • I can see free shipping via DHL. That's great

    • +1

I can't select a bundle or colour on that link.
Can't on the main "go to sale" link either. Must be my phone or something?

      • -1

It worked for me. Just added to cart. $166.99 USD including free shipping via DHL. This is a much better deal than the OP's

        EDIT: Op's deal is better.

        • Because?

    • +3

no, it's not an upgrade from snapdragon 650..
snapdragon 625 is a bit better battery wise, and a bit worse performance wise.

      • Don't forget the 650 was formerly called 618 and is nearly 3 years old now. Snapdragon 625 is worse for graphics only but not performance as a whole.

        • +1

Lower single threaded performance and half the memory bandwidth.
          sd625 is anemic.

    • +1

625 is not an upgrade but it is more battery efficient if you don't play any demanding games or use any intensive apps.

    • Nope, snapdragon 650 is a more powerful processor. However, I believe that the 625 is more efficient power-wise. You do have the special version note 3, however, not the helio x10 variant (less powerful).

  • +1

    Is that AUD or USD?

  • -1

    price is in USD

    • -1

Yes. OP needs to update the title

      • The price is AUD. Nothing needs changing..

    • +1

It's AUD. USD price is about $140.

  • well that's not enticing at all then

    • +2

      Why not

  • OK. Signed in but can't add to cart.

EDIT: have to select a bundle first

  • -1

Is there NFC for the phone ?

    • No

  • +1
    • +1

Which is this deal. + $10 for the DHL shipping.

  • The advert for $139US shows the black version which is currently $217US. Looks likely the sale with be for the cheaper gold version which is currently $174US (especially given the advert shows it's $139US down from $174US).

  • I just added the black to my cart with dhl shipping all for $187 aud, not sure if other colors are more expensive or not Wont pull the trigger unless the dhl shipping is Australia wide and including regionals

    • Care to explain how? I just added the black with DHL to my cart to test that out and got US $226.02 ($296 AUD). I thought sale started tomorrow.

      • Well Im not sure what happened as it originally showed 187 with dhl in my cart but when I went to the pay option it say !287 so I dunno

    • Why not use standard Aliexpress shipping and wait a bit longer

      • 8 days vs 60 days? $8 US is worth it - plus this seller only has DHL.

      • +4

        bit longer

        Lol.

  • Stuck on MIUI for now ? No alternate ROM like LineageOS ?

    • Has got TWRP so won't be long…

      • Lol. Many phones get TWRP but not custom ROMs.

Not saying it won't happen, but having TWRP means very little.

TWRP doesn't require getting GPS, Bluetooth, data, wifi, sound, cameras etc. working.

        • No but given XIAOMI's "open" nature and the fact that every other XIAOMI phone has custom ROM's I don't think it will be long.. Or do you know something we don't…?

        • @Maxx Power: I wouldn't say Xiaomi have an "open" nature. I had to request a code to root my Redmi 3 and it took ages for them to respond. Regardless, they are still great phones. I'm running Lineage now and couldn't be happier.

        • +1

          @Maxx Power:

They aren't open at all! They still haven't released the kernel source for the Mi A1 (which is an official Google Android One device). Heck, they never released the source for my old Redmi Note 4G.

Xiaomi make great hardware, but they are scumbags as a company. Continually breaching GPL They take from the open source community and give nothing back.

          http://www.androidpolice.com/2018/01/16/xiaomi-still-hasnt-r…

  • Which colour will be showing sale price tomorrow. When does the sale start

    • +1

      6pm tomorrow

      • Doubt if this price is for black colour.

  • Wait…is the new member coupon thing good for this?
    This price is bananas.

    • +5

      Bananas aren't accepted currency.

  • Damn, thise phone uses micro usb. I don't think I can go back to using micro usb phone again

  • which networks will this phone work for within AU?

    • All. It is just missing one band for Optus and Telstra. From personal experience, not a big deal.

      • Can confirm. I have the Note 4 and am on Telstra. I haven't (yet) noticed the lack of b28. I'd pay a little bit extra for a phone which had it, but not the amount I'd have to pay for a phone from a SK or Japanese company.

  • +1

    19997 pieces available… Better be quick tomorrow…

  • +2

damn just bought a Note 4X 3GB/32GB for a few bucks more last week :(

  • +2

FYI, to who interested in 4G/64G version. I spoke to LITB op in previous deal, late this week apparently he will post (repost) the deal Redmi 5 plus 4G/64G for Aud $220 delivered .

    • +4

If they want business, they'd better post the deal tonight. I'm sure a lot of us will go with this deal in case LITB don't repost it and miss both.

    • I'm interested if it's global rom. Just texted the rep who says he'll post this week after restocking

  • Would it be possible to flash another rom on it? Or is MIUI all good anyway?

    • +4

Easy to flash, MIUI not bad

    • +1

MIUI isn't bad. I flashed it on my 1st gen Galaxy S years ago, and it was the best rom I ever used in terms of performance and looks.

That said, if you don't like the iOS-look, put the Google Now launcher on it. Or Microsoft's.

    • I haven't felt the need to put another skin on mine. MIUI is fine.

One thing to note, my Note 4 doesn't (and my note 2 before it) has wireless hotspot broken out of the box. The option to turn it on is there, but it doesn't work. There's an app to fix it - but you have to get root first.

  • Honest question, is this a couple of levels up from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro?

    • Mainly in larger screen and form factor with the newer 18:9 screen ratio, better battery life and better camera.

If your RN3 is Kate edition you will need to leave B28 at the door unfortunately lol.

      • Is it as highly rated as the RN3 though? I always wondered what it's successor was. There didn't seem to be too many raving reviews about the RN4.

        • +2

The processor in the RN3 (sd650) is still faster than this (sd625) although this will have better battery life.
If you are happy with the RN3 I would wait or spend a little more for a more substantial upgrade

        • They sold one million units within few days of launch early last year in India alone. Xiaomi now the second most selling smartphone brand in India, and the Redmi Note 4/4X most sold smartphone there for the year, not too shabby.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:

I've still got a rn3 pro as well. Apart from the camera, it's still a fantastic phone. I've been waiting for a successor to the note 3 for a while, but haven't yet seen anything that makes me want to upgrade. Was hoping this phone might be it, but alas not it seems

        • @anzacpaul:

Good to hear that, I would keep using that too if I had one ( especially if it's good old Kate ).

As long as your battery is still good, still a nice phone. What version of Android and Mui is the latest update if still running stock?

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:

It's running android 6 and miui 8. I bought it before the Kate was released unfortunately. 32gb is my biggest issue now as you can't install apps to the SD card.

        • @anzacpaul:

Thanks for info. Is that the latest update available through the official OTA system for that model then?

Was not aware of the "can't istall apps to SD card" thingy. Is that the same for the RN4/4X/Global model too?

        • +1

@anzacpaul: Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking the exact same thing.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:

Yep latest available update through stock software (international rom).

Not sure on future models re: apps installed on SD Card.
