Good phone .. been using it at launch May last year… no lags, running at full refresh 144Mhz. crazy drop less than a year

    • Hows the adaptive brightness and wireless charging with wireless powerbank? I have the neo it wont charger if you have magsafe powerbank only works if you place it onto a wireless charger and hard to see screen outdoors, thinking to buy this one.

      • +1

adaptive brightness works ok. i don't have magsafe wireless powerbank to try with, just those USB wireless charger. display might struggle with too bright outdoor, but could also be from my SP

      • I have this Edge 50 PRO and works great with magsafe but not all cases work as they are poor in design or too thick. I tried a few from Amazon and then sent them back as they don't work, but settled on a cheapie from Ali and works well.

Guizzcg Magnetic Case for Motorola Moto Edge 50 Pro Case (Amazon, did not work)

No headphone jack if that matters to you. GSM Arena.(gsmarena.com)

Also no microsd card and has a curved screen (will be harder to install glass screen protector) , just fyi for anyone who is chasing for features.

      • -1

Exactly, it's difficult to find a phone without a curved display these days too. Curved phones are so fragile

        • +3

What do you mean, most manufacturers have done away with curved screen these days. Motorola is one of the few that remain

      • -1

I've dropped every phone I've ever owned, good few times… Cos I'm human. So I get quality covers & glass screen protectors. Never cracked a single screen… Except for edge phone.
My LG V40 didn't even need to be dropped. It tipped from standing portrait, and the screen cracked Within the first few months, so I hated an amazing phone every day. And was cheaper to buy a new one.
        Never ever ever again.

OP says 5000mah but the link says 4500mah. Which one is right?

  • Seems like Motorola-AU has ONLY-started to clear this model & keep an eye on it.

    • Edge 60 series is releasing next month , from the leak we might be seeing downgrade in charging back to 60w but nothing much else has been leaked so far

      Fully-charge in 1hr: NOT-surpise that bias &/or /paid-reviews not mention that this'll kill-battery via,
      a.HIGH-ampere generates EXTRA-heat.
b.100% charging via HIGH-voltage &/or heat. Maybe stop via Android/APP?

      • Full charging to 100%: review what voltage your phone charge 90-100%. Moto-G54 allows 4.5V charging 93-100% battery-level, https://ibb.co/FLRwS0P9.

Those who value Longevity over speed/convenience, targeting battery-level, say 15-80% is do-able, ie you're using 65% of your 5000mAh battery. It helps to carry a power-bank 10000mAh, even for HIGH-user, https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-…

      • I have been using 68w FULL POWER every evening to charge my edge 30 neo for 2 years, and battery still lasts me more than a day with similar usage patterns, in fact the last 6 months I have been using it more.

        • edge 30 NEO for 2 years

          I think you're saying that you're practising,
          a.using factory 68W all-charger & hence Moto-Edge-NEO draw whatever it wants, eg 68W.
b.charge to 100% all the time.

Pls install AccuBattery-APP & advise their battery-health reading, ie how much of the 4020mAh factory-capacity remain, thanks.

  • New edge 60 is around the corner so clearing old stock. Would have been nice for the pro to have a snapdragon 8 series but oh well.

Hoping the edge 60 ultra comes to Australia… At least provide an alternative to Samsung but with a SD8 Elite cpu

    • -5

Any one trying to see a flagship phone here would have a hard to competing with Samsung especially with their aggressive add on sales like no one would buy Oppo find x8 pro for 1700 when you can get s25 ultra for around 800$ with coupon stacking

      • +1

where you can s25 ultra for around 800$.

      • +1

how? i'd get one right now for $800 if i could

  • G85 Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is better than this phones Snapdragon 7 Gen 3?

    • No. This is much better.

  • Is it worth upgrading from edge 50 neo? the neo adaptive brightness sucks and wireless charging with magsafe powerbank does not always work, also hard to see phone outdoor with NEO

  • +1

Has anyone noticed the screen cracking easily? I've gone through two screen replacements which I never did with my Samsung

    • Curved = fragile

    • Which brands?

    • Yes. Screen is "fragile" compared to my previous experience.

Don't get me wrong, this is an amazing phone for this price.

      Typing to you on it.

I accidentally dropped it from 1m height, with the provided case protector on it.

Top of my screen is cracked, with very small lines visible across the status bar area. Doesn't affect full screen viewing in any way.

But I don't think I would have cracked the screen on my last 4 phones with the same drop…

P.S. My phone is totally working perfectly, just tiny spider cracks visible on the top of screen first 5mm.

  • +3

Wish they made a smaller screen version but same specs

    • 100 percent this

  • Is this an upgrade from an S21 5G?

    • Wanted to know as well

    • +2

I bought this phone in the deal near the end of last year to replace my S21 5G which accidentally went swimming. I have found it to be a great upgrade. The battery life is way better, the screen is way better. General responsiveness is very similar (I didn't/don't really notice issues with either). The camera is also pretty similar in results.

My overall impression is that for the money it's incredibly hard to go past. I know I wasn't interested in paying 1k+ for a new flagship

  • Hows the camera on this device?

    • GSM mob say it's quite good 👍

  • -1

Good if you need a phone, but it's not a good phone to buy as an "upgrade" if you have a decent phone from the last few years.

I have a Motorola edge 20 pro from years ago. I can't justify the upgrade to the edge 50 pro, it's almost more like a sidegrade.

The best specced phone from the Motorola edge series was always the "Pro". Until this 50 series, where they decided to introduce an "ultra" variant. The 50 pro is now a step down, whereas it used to be the top dog.

It's still a good phone, but it's not the clear upgrade like it used to be from year to year.

The Ultra is not a new variant. The Pro has always been an upper mid range model.

      • Not in the 20 series, which is the one I have. Pro is the best they offer.

        • +1

          True but you said

The best specced phone from the Motorola edge series was always the "Pro". Until this 50 series, where they decided to introduce an "ultra" variant.

Which makes it sound like the Ultra variant was first introduced as part of the 50 series

Not sure why shxhshzhz got downvoted when they are 100% correct.

    • I have a S10+ and I'm still not sure if I want to upgrade to this phone. The only thing I really care about is the newer CPU for longer battery life and faster charging.

  • How does this compare to Google Pixel 7a?

  • This or Nothing 3a?

    • +1

The curved screen would be a deciding factor for most people, I'm not a fan. But where can you buy Nothing 3A for this price?

GSM Arena comparison.(gsmarena.com) Nothing was released 03/25, Edge 04/24.

    • +1

The 12GB/256GB 3a comparable to this is $689 and discounts are unlikely for a new model.

  • similar price at amazon for the lavender colour at $520
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0D2GKP4QN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ANEGB3WVEVKZB&th=1
  • This is just an ok mid ranger. It’s a downgrade from last year’s model with lower refresh rates and a slower cpu. I would avoid this purchase and wait for the Edge 60 to be released to see how that phone fares up. The good thing about the Edge 50 is that the charging wired and wirelessly is much, much faster.

Purchased 2 of these yesterday @ JB for $549 each only to see in the same day other retailers had reduced to $498, very annoyed.

I like the price point of Motorola phones when they're being cleared, it's ridiculous to spend 1K on a phone that's easily damaged.

One thing I cannot stand is the moronic "Hello Moto" theme and the silly African sounding "Hello Moto" on start up etc. The first thing I have to change, honestly who in the World at Motorola thought this was cool?

    • You should be able to turn off the Hello Moto sound at start up and also you might be able to return the phone and/or get $50 credit from JB if you are persistent enough.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/motorola/comments/yu9zlw/is_there_a…

    • I have just updated my G54 to Android 15, and the Hello Moto greeting has (regretfully) disappeared.

  • I own vivo x50 pro, I'm doing spec comparison doesn't seem like much of a gap improvement, slight increase camera, battery and resolution, is it worth to upgrade on this moto model?

  • I've got a Edge 30 fusion but I cracked the screen previously and now the front camera has dust in it. It has the snapdragon 888 cpu in it, which seems its better than the Snapdragon 7 gen 3 in the pro? Though I think I actually want the flat screen and the fusion 50 neo has the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 and is at the same price at the pro at $500?

Am I wasting my time wanting the neo or should I go the pro or simply hold till April 2nd to see the fusion 60? I don't think they're releasing any flat screen though in that series stragiht away?
