  • Price error ?

    • +1

      Probs not. Run out model

  • +4

Good phone for the price. Once you go a 125W charger.. you don't want to go to a slow < 50W charger in Apple/Samsung/Google

Snapdragon 7 gen 3 though… Hardly a 'pro' phone feature

    • +2

Also only 4500mAh battery 🔋, a bit low imo.

      • Yeah I saw a review, battery not so great given the power

        • Battery is great. Modem is efficient and so is the chip. Comfortably lasts all day, and charges unbelievably fast if you need a top-up.

      • +4

Wait till you see the battery capacity of iPhones…

        • +1

They only get around their bad capacity by aggressively reducing power consumption and background functions.

    • Pro model isn't the top off the range. This is more a top mid tire handset and the ultra models will be top tire

    • even going to a 60w charger (asus rog phone 6), it's hard to go back. charging your phone to 100% in under 40minutes is just so much more convenient than the 45w charging on samsung stuff.

  • +2

    Charger alone is 65/70 $

  • +4

This is a ridiculous price for such a phone, yesterday it was $997 reduced to $797 and now it's dropped to $448. Must be a price error but I'd jump on it if I didn't just buy the Moto edge 50

    • +2

Na, Motorola phones just have massive depreciation always.

    • +3

Not really they have been selling in overseas market for this price since launch

    • +3

This is the actual price of the phone, $997 is an absolute piss take price and they're not even giving you the top of line CPU at that price

      • It would be insane for top of line CPUs to be priced below a thousand dollars

        • Not really, pretty common with the Xiaomi POCO series.

  • +2

Reviews are excellent. Only let down is processor which won't be noticeable for most.

    • +1

hard to get a better phone for $425.60.. its actually a really nice phone. 12GB version too.
I have the edge 30 ultra so aside from longer software support it would be a sideways or downgrade to get this phone.

    • +1

Is says online only? Can they price beat for that?

      • +1

You have to go instore. I just went and grabbed one and there was 2 left Australia wide. So someone might of grabbed the last one at Officeworks by now.

        • I tried to price beat over the phone and was successful. Not sure I bought the last one as you mentioned. My order status is “Preparing”.

      • I tried but they refused as the product code they checked did not match exactly

        • +3

I had the same issue. Then found the catch. in JB HI FI site the Product code is written with white letters on white background. Which makes it impossible to see. If you go to JB page and do a search on the page. It will appear. Search 8400 on JB page and you will find it.

Its hidden under the MODEL and SKU number.

    no fm radio no microSD?

  • +1

    Can it work with esim?

    • It sounds like they do, Motorola says it depends on carrier/region, the model sold by mobileciti mentions eSIM.

Discussion on Whirlpool indicate eSIM support is working in the Edge 50 Neo, so hopefully this is also the case on the Pro.

      • +1

Used to have one. Can confirm esim works.

    • +1

If you aren't travelling, what are the advantages of esim?

  • My old A71 5G just died on me and need a new phone. Is this better than a refurb A73 5G for $350? Seems like the best phone sub $500 atm?

    • How invested are you in Micro SD or Samsung ecosystem?
Otherwise 100% I would get this for sub $500. This was a $999 phone a few weeks ago

      • +2

This was a way overpriced phone a few weeks ago.

        • +2

That's pretty much the phone market in general, tbf

          • @Magpye: Yeah I agree, 2k phones has to be the ceiling.

        • +1

Isn't that a large chunk of phones out there however?

Its probably a $600 - $700 phone in reality - at the current price its good value.

          • +1

@mcs: Yes all are overpriced at the start then drop to a sweet spot, sometimes you can get lucky like the $1600 s23 U pre order good guys deal.

            • +1

@Spendmore: Of course - I still find paying $1600 for a phone absolutely crazy, but that's probably just me ha!

              • +3

@mcs: Agreed, it wasnt long ago 1k was the ceiling then Apple just kept pushing the bar and others followed suit.

    • I'm about to sell my a73, i had sent it away (warranty issue with the charging) and moved to edge 50 neo when it was on sale for circa 350. I think it was an ok swap (comparable battery life, no gaming, albeit big sacrifice without microsd)

  • Thanks OP, my S21 died the other day. Have ordered one of these C&C.

  • +1

This has a curved screen for those who are worried about breaking their glass

    • Got the G85 and I can't work out this curved screen thing. Yeah curved screen on a 32" monitor.

  • +1

Thanks OP, ordered this morning around 3am, and have collected it from my local store

  • Man and I purchased a p7p 512gb the other day. Anyway super excited for my phone. Always like phone tech

  • Any chance price will go down further? Edge 50 Neo had the similar fate during Black Friday this year.

    • Looking at Officeworks and jbhifi, doesn't look like there's much stock left. So I wouldn't count on it

      • Rang my local office works and they claimed there are no more lavender phones in stock anywhere. However if I use the OW app to do a click and collect it is still available online so not sure what gives. However I don't want to pY $797 for this phone at OW.

  • dang it … bought it at launch back in May crazy drop for Moto phone … luckily was with bonus trade in, JB $200 and motobuds+ by redemption …

  • Looks like a good deal….BUT should I wait for Boxing Day for better deal?? In the market for a phone in the sub 500 range…

  • +2

Would this be an upgrade from a samsung s20fe?

  • can someone comment on the battery life say compared to a pixel 6a? no gaming, just video (for a young adult)

  • +8

I paid $8xx for one of these 3 months ago. Been pretty happy with it - the curved edge is what it is, but as a phone it works well. The fast charging is awesome, and in general I've had zero performance issues with it. But I'm not a heavy gamer or anything - it does everything I need it to do - has pretty strong overall network connections too when travelling out and about in regional Australia which is pleasing.

At that price its great bang for your buck for mine.

  • Would this be an upgrade from s21 ?

    • +1

My new Edge 50 Neo already feels substantially better than the refurbished S21 I've had for over a year.

  • This one isn't a true dual sim is it? Only one physical sim?

  • +1

I am going to get these as an upgrade to the S20 FE

    • +1

Hi repeat, i was wondering if i should do the same. My s20fe is feeling dated.
If you're picking one up today, would you mind giving your first thoughts.
      Thanks

      • +1

As a refurbed S21 user, the Edge 50 Neo already feels better than it in almost every way so the Pro would probably blow the S20 FE out of the water.

      • The phone feels nice in the hand, the plastic back has a textured back compared to the smooth plastic of the S20 FE, together with curved screen and the narrower display make it a bit easier to hold and operate one handed.
Display has more fall off when viewed off-axis, with the screen appearing blue and duller when not viewing it straight on.
For those with display sensitivity, the screen may be irritating at the default settings - I had the least irritation with the brightness set above 80%, flicker prevention on and refresh on auto or 60 Hz.
Personally, I prefer the display of the S20 FE.
Charger brick is quite bulky and at 55mm wide may interfere with neighbouring sockets, comes with a short USB-C cable but is capable of charging the phone very quickly (120W).

    • +1

      Same here man! Hahaha

  • performace, 7 gen3≈888, but much better heating.

  • Is there a difference in photo quality between 50 neo and 50 pro? I just bought neo but it's photo quality pretty bad/below average.. if it has way better quality photo taking I'll upgrade.. should I?

    • Probably a little better. These are mid range so you won’t get iPhone like quality unfortunately

    • I like the photo quality so long as you don't try to zoom in and pixel peep after the fact. The 3x zoom lens is also very handy.

    • With neo 50 I took a capture of my monitor screen and all the picture had dark shadows in place of the white space. Pretty terrible compared to my Huawei Mate 20 (5 year old). Would suggest a razr for better pic quality as Edge series is mediocre camera wise.

    • Photos are decent, but nothing special. Good for basic use - but if you want high quality photos, either buy a much better phone or invest in a camera. I'd say mid range quality - but useful for most purposes.

  • Any audio port?

  • Bought a Redmi Note 13 Pro 12/256 in amazon germany and waited 3 weeks for delivery. Maniacal Optus blocked it after a few minutes of use. had to return it and wait for a good deal. and this is an awesome deal and got one just now.. thanks @Fairways.

  • +3

I would have jump on this if it didn't have a curved screen

    • +1

Why would motorola even choose it ?

    • Jumping on it will probably give it a curved screen

  • this one or refurb iPhone se2 as a backup phone? my redmi k30 was dead after 3g shut down.

  • price beat from OW 5% better deal.

    • 5% off gift cards insurance and jb has stock

  • +1

    Who invented these curve things!

  • No local stock for me and now has a January 7th delivery date

  • Would this be a massive downgrade from Note 20 Ultra? I'm bit reluctant to replace my Note 20 Ultra screen and looking for a phone. FYI Not using stylus much either. Thoughts?

  • show $797 for me on JB's website?

  • Purchased. It's expired now see if it was price error and if the honour it

    • congrats! I reckon someone messed up the price. They should honour it

      • it's been shipped so they have houroured it. Normally I procrastinate and miss the deal, but not today, oh not today

        • I'm seeing 8 jan as expected arrival?

    • just picked up the item about 30 mins ago

  • Argh!! 3 weeks ago I thought I was getting a bargain through MobileCiti at $645!

  • Missed it. That was a pricing error and they won't honour it now

    • -1

      Grey is available

      • Link? I'm assuming you're talking about the Koala Grey which is not the pro variant

        • Sorry got confused it’s not the pro version

  • +1

    Hmm back up to 797.

Well none were near me so I got it shipped out at the cheaper price about 2 hours ago.

It's not so crazy a price that it has to be a price error, remember the motor edge neo was like hundreds off recently.

  • +1

I did click and collect, got notified pretty quickly this morning and then rushed down about 1pm when I saw the price had gone back up.

All good though, no issues with collection.

    • lucky you
