  • Probably the Best device for tv

    • do you still need one, if someone already have a smart TV ?

      • Not if ur tv runs android

        • I have non-Android smart TV. I'm just curious, what particular apps do you run on this Xioami Box ?

        • @OzSikh: for sure bro. Even if you got smartest tv on planet. very good to watch Indian tv and shite

        • +1

          @OzSikh:

There is the usual suspects (Netflix, Stan, Plex, Emby, Redbull, Vimeo, Youtube) and also now ABC iView. There is a user created SBS on demand that partly works on mibox, can watch most stuff but the app crashes for me when browsing catalogue. Think channel 10 has an app but I couldn't care less about commercial channel offerings.

There is Kodi and spmc of course too.

It's a great device for the money but I do get lots of random reboots and freezes. If you can afford it get a shield.

        • +1

@OzSikh: Kodi, NetFlix, Youtube, Youtube for Kids, Games. You can side load Tablet Apps as well but some have issues

        • @tbgoose: Thank you

        • @OzSikh: no probs

      • I have a smart panasonic, but its old smart tv and no more apps, where there gives a old tv a new life

        • Thank you

  • +1

Android TV 6 is the latest? No.

    • At moment there is no 7

      • It came out a year ago. Still waiting in the mi box.

  • Can use the code for more than one :)

    Are these good for Netflix?

    • +1

Yeah mate, one of the very few devices that can play Netflix @ 4K too. I've got one myself - Wifi reception is decent, remote control is fantastic (very well built and responsive), however the microphone doesn't seem to work very well.

Pretty much only use it as a Netflix/Portable HD media player but I've got no complaints.

      • Try speaking mandarin into the remote and see how it goes

    • Mine has started doing a weird thing where videos get to 99% and then the audio plays but the video doesn't play.
Need to restart to play Netflix videos consistently.

    • It says expired when you try twice

      • Yesterday you could add 3 to the cart and all 3 would get the full discount - today it's just applied to 1….more than likely only able to use the code once too as per most deals

Only thing that is putting me off is there is no priority shipping (5-10 days) option as with most items so this could be a good month before receiving, not that much cheaper than Aussie stock on eBay with Gearbite…. decisions decisions!

        • I think they fixed the bug that allowed multiples

        • 10-15 isnt too bad

        • @asa79:

          Yep

        • +1

          @asa79:

Where's the 10-15? Mine has 10-25 or 15-20 days both registered or 9-19 days express (HA!) for an extra $21.33 which they cancel on me anyway as we're regional

Dont forget to check they also have Dispatch: Ships between Jan 19 - Jan 31 which normally means i't won't ship for at least a week sometimes

        • Mine came up with 10-15 might be location based, and there is ablitiy to into your orders and click on "Dispatch Faster" button

  • What channel can I get? Does it have subs?

  • Any Chinese karaoke app? There were one from TVpad before not bad

  • Can you stream Youtube clips on it?

    • Yes

  • +1

Can you install Foxtel Go on these?

    • Huh, that's something I hadn't even considered. You could use it as a second Foxtel box without having to pay extra…

    • If there is android TV app then Yes

  • I assume you can install Kodi on this?

Has anyone who has this used it as a Kodi box, and how does it perform?

  • +2

Is there any apps to watch Taiwan or HK channels??

    • I would like to know as well.. Anyone got experience with this?
Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korean, Japanese, Thai?

      • Me too and most important is do they give any eng subs?

    • I would like to know three

  • Do these plays 4k ISO/MKV properly?

    • Via Kodi or VLC Player

      • Kodi

        • Yes

        • @asa79:

have you personal try it. Did the sound comes out without any cuts in and out?

        • @mt2000: I do it on my Sony Android TV with 4k 10bit MKV content without any issues

        • @mt2000: it's perfectly capable of playing 4K, both h264 and HEVC.

        • @tbgoose:

The reason I ask because I have the MECOOL M8S PRO Plus and when playing 4k ISO or 4k MKV the sound shuttering every few seconds while the video is perfect ok

        • @mt2000: well link me to a sample of similar specs to you're playing and I'll try it for ya.

  • +1

Can you use it for Plex ? I'm really only needing Plex & Netflix - possibly catch up tv would be a bonus

    • +2

      Yeh. Plex works fine.

    • +1

yep there is an App for that

    • +1

Yep Plex is available on app store, and there are official catch-up apps for ABC, SBS and Ten. Nothing for 7 or 9. Stan is also available and works well.

Plex has had some issues in the past but they have mostly fixed them. Otherwise the Kodi Plex add-on works perfectly as a viable alternative.

      Emby is available also.

      • Awesome! Thanks for the info :)

  • Plug option US, UK or EU.
In these situations what plug would you recommend and where can I buy a cheap plug adaptor for it?

    • +2

Last i ordered US plug from these guys they included an australian plug adaptor.

Note: went with US plug because the country i took the gadget to had a US plug.

    • US is also the smaller plug, you will usually get a AU Adapter but sometimes its a cheap two pin version, ebay has cheap 3 pin adaptors available

  • I'm looking at chromecasting the afl app with this, did anyone use it successfully last year?

  • Looks like it's expired. Can someone confirm please? (Maybe I'm doing something wrong)
