Have been looking for another one of these and this is the cheapest I have seen them in a while.

Android TV not those cheap Android Tablet OS versions, so that it supports HD Netflix. (similar to the Android TV on Sony TVs)

Highlights
Android TV 6.0 Marshmallow

It runs on the latest Android TV 6.0 which is easy to use, supports voice controls and Google CastTM. Catch your favorite TV shows, play games, watch the news or switch to radio. Mi Box also recommends videos based on your personal Youtube and Google Play preferences!

Quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU

A high performance of Quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU can play a wide range of games.

Bluetooth voice remote control

Just speak into the remote control and Mi box will search for what you want.

Everything pops with HDR

HDR is quickly making its way to TV, first to set-top boxes with Mi Box. Watch videos in detail like never before with select HDR content. Witness scenes and characters come to life in vivid contrast, color, and clarity.

HDMi 2.0a

HDMI2.0a is a faster way to send video and audio output to your TV. With up to 18Gbps speeds, it significantly improves picture and sound quality, making Mi Box perfect for watching 4K Ultra HD and HDR video content.

DTS and Dolby surround sound

Dolby DTS certified, the Mi Box supports both Dolby Digital Plus and DTS multichannel HD audio encoding. The result is smoother, dynamic, immersive and more realistic stereo surround sound during ultra HD Blu-ray video playback.

Apps for the big screen

Everything looks better on the big screen, including shows from YouTube, Sling TV, Netflix, Vudu, FandangoNOW and more. Stream, play and be entertained for hours with access to hit shows, blockbusters, radio stations and viral videos.

Super smooth streaming, 60fps 4K decoding

A powerful video decoder is like having a high performance processor. Mi Box can handle up to 60 frames per second - that's double what other set-top boxes can do. It's an advantage you'll notice naturally when you watch NBA live or play a racing game.

  • Good post but make sure to put in the usd price also

    • Would it be any cheaper via Geekbuying to pay in USD?

      • Yes. $66.99 US is $84.61 AU based on the current exchange rate.

Many OzBargainers have credit/debit cards without currency conversion fees. You can set them up in PayPal to use their own rate instead of PayPal's inflated rate to get a better price.

        • Thanks

No GB Lan if I'm not mistaken? Pass

    • You can use USB LAN Adapter. Which is what I'm doing. I have bedrooms wired, so not wanting to use wireless

      • -3

Into a USB 2 port? Slow and add extra cost but yes is an option.

Why not just grab a cheaper amlogic box with GB Lan and load libreelec.

        • +2

https://www.gearbest.com/network-cards/pp_449964.html these are currently $7.56 at Gearbest at moment. Not sure if they have any codes to make cheaper at moment. USB can handle 200MB which is fast enough.

Netflix HD isnt supported on those cheap boxes

        • +2

This box is a better all in one solution. I have Libreelec running on an old NUC and it's just not as versatile. This box is a 4k Netflix player, can handle network playback, has chromecast and as it's Android plenty of apps. It's also a very stable OS not like the cheap Android players you'll find on eBay (XGODY etc)

What exactly do you need gigabit transfer for? The storage space isn't exactly terabytes… And what video file types need gigabit speeds?? Are you watching 32K movies on your 32K HDR TV with Atmos?

        • -2

          @D3m3ntia:

Every smart TV with HDR already has a Netflix app, why would you need a box to run Netflix.

4k movie files are 50GB+ , good luck streaming over wifi or a USB dongle.

        • -1

          @NuclearWessels:

Probably why this box is not for me. I have wiped the android OS and just booting libreelec on my amlogic box.

        • @noise36: If you have anyting smaller then a 40" tv you dont get Most Smart TV functions. So this is a cheap solution for bedroom tvs

        • +1

@noise36: Android TV is better then Android Tablet you have on your current box

        • @asa79:

Is this the adapter you're using. I'm interested in getting one for mine as WiFi here is a bit flaky.

        • @start3r: yea and there is heaps of others that use it based on reviews. Pretty much any works

        • @asa79: Great, thanks!

    • Tho most people will be happy with 802.11ac speed. Especially if they have the UnFi AC Pro/HD, Orbi etc

  • +2

cheapest I have seen them in a while.

Apparently, Xiaomi has been doing a bit of retail price maintenance.
i.e. threatening suppliers if they discount below a minimum retail price.

Illegal in Australia, but Apple seems to get away with it.

    • -1

Hey xiaomi, im gonna sell this tv box for 2 bucks.

    • Yea not the $75 like it was in Dec unforunately

    • Chinese brands controlling how low shops can sell their products has been going on longer than I've been a member here.

      • Don't the shops just buy it from xiaomi? So why does it matter? Or does xiaomi send it out.

        • +2

If the shops get caught, xiaomi will cut their supply.

"premium" brands don't like to be discounted.

        • @manic:
I am so glad xiaomi doesn't know Ozbargain, haha.

        • @manic: But that's what's so compelling about Xiaomi, "premium" products at regular prices….

        • +1

          @BrodenIt: They actually do

        • @Clear:
Xiaomi spies on Ozbargainers? Should be posted as a deal.

        • +2

@manic: Never really regarded Xiaomi as "Premium"… Decent - Yes, But Premium? Thats a bit of a stretch.

  • Does it comes with Kodi? Or do you have to load it to the box? Thanks

    • +1

Kodi is installed via the Google App Store, same as Plex etc

    • Many people are bypassing the android side of things and just loading libreelec, booting into that instead.

      • +2

I have openelec on NUC boxes and are replacing them with these as these support Netflix where Android based elec systems dont

        • -3

Your tv doesn't have a Netflix app?

        • @noise36: most smaller tvs dont

        • +1

          @noise36:

TV apps are always crap not to mention both software(OS) and hardware in smart TVs are crap too.

Boxes with android TV OS has much better experience and provides all in one solution.

        • @claud0902: I have the Sony 65" and its all based on Android TV

        • @asa79:

Sure. But in this case you are limited only to the TVs with the Android TV OS. To me the purchase decision made for a TV should always be price and panel quality but not the irrelevant features like software OS.

        • @claud0902: Yea I cant justify replacing my other tvs when these are under $100 and new TVs are alot more

      • What's the advantage of doing that

        • You will need a gyro remote or keyboard mouse as touchscreen isn’t there

      • +1

Not on these they're not. Locked bootloader.

Get any old cheapie S905 Android box for that.

      • You might be better with something like this https://www.gearbest.com/promotion-khadas-vim2-tv-box-specia…

  • Great piece of hardware, unfortunately the year of beta testing Android 7 with no scheduled release when NVIDIA did it for the shield almost a year ago is stifling. I'll wait to see if it ever gets released before buying a second one for the upstairs tv

"It runs on the latest Android TV 6.0 which is easy to use, "

They need to change their marketing material :) latest? I guess it's the latest version of Android 6 available ..

    • Is Google playstore pre installed

      • It's Android TV so it's the official Google version of the OS for TVs. The store is by default there, but it's the got apps compatible with the TV OS only. Side load is always an option for things which aren't officially on the such as Foxtel Go

  • Is this unit capable of casting 4k? I see it's capable of streaming 4k so I would assume its the same for casting. Was considering a Chromecast ultra 4k but for the same price this would be better

    • +3

Don't buy this box if your main use is 4k.

It is a hell of a box if your aim is to stream 1080p 60fps or below but not 4k

      • Doesn't it depend on the source?
e.g. Netflix stream is easier than a bluray rip.

      • Any suggestions of a better android 4k casting/streaming solution @bargaingrabber?

        • Hmmmm seems like NVIDIA tv shield $$$. For Netflix at least

        • @mrlb: two for the price of one shield. Ok if you need the gaming performance but for just watching movies probably no benefit?

      • YouTube reviews say they do 4K as good as amazon firetv

    • Yes its 4K

  • Anyone recommend an Ethernet adaptor for using with these? WiFi is fine for most things but find sometimes i need a more stable connection IF slower.

    Thanks.

Better deal with better cash back via cashreward.

    • how is it a better deal?

    • GeekBuying has cash rewards

      • Geekbuying is 91.88 with 2.5% cash reward. Aliexpress is 90.10 with 4% cash reward.

        • It’s not on special anymore

  • Huh? Now showing $69.99 USD.

  • Looks like it’s back to normal price again

  • My current set up at home is a HTPC running a pentium g4560 Windows 10 with Plex Media Server connected directly to the main viewing TV via HDMI. It will direct play up to 4k x265 10bit no problems but when I try to transcode to my CCU on the bedroom TV (crappy 1080p TV and average wifi - n 150mb) it buffers often. I've also read that even though the CCU states that it supports 4k x265 main10 that it might not be the case. Do you guys think that something like this might help my problem or is it more likely my CPU in the HTPC or my average wifi network?

    • Thats a PC tho, This will play any android based sources, like HD Netflix, Plex, Kodi etc.

  • Ah ok thanks. I might not have made it clear that I was specifically referring to playing downloaded 4k x265 10bit files from my Media server to a 1080p TV with CCU attached via 150mbs wifi n via plex. Im wondering replacing the CCU with this would help?

    • -1

We cant help you are illegally getting media files, only if you are using genuine sources like itunes or netflix
PS. HEVC requires alot of GPU power to decode the media

  • This is the ideal budget Netflix box. That's about it

    • Kodi and Plex as well as any other Android TV Apps

  • You mean genuine sources like my blu-rays i'm encoding for my media collection? But yeah I'm aware HEVC is taxing on the cpu, I baught the dual core hyperthreaded g4560 specifically because it has x265 hardware decoding, but there's a good chance it might not be enough for 4k. Anyway thanks for the help!

    • I have no issues on my old i3 with GT210 video card, running windows 7

      • Specifically playing 4k x265 10bit files from your media server to 1080p TV with CCU via plex over wifi?

        • No not Plex, Kodi, you do the all the processing local. My Sony Android TV running Kodi has no issues with 4k x265 10bit either.

Plex does all the processing on the server side not the client, so that is where your issue is
