Laser Region Free Blu-Ray and DVD Player with 3 year warranty, model BLU-BD3000. Picked one up today at my local BigW in Forest Hill Vic.

Available in store or online + delivery fee, which was $9.90 for me.

Edit: When I bought it in store, the price tag on the shelf was $99. I had it price checked at the counter, and it turns out the website is correct. So if anyone goes in store and sees $99 price tag, get it price checked.

It's great that both the Blu-ray player AND DVD player are region free.

It would be good if the major manufacturers implemented this. I just couldn't bear to have a Laser branded product in my home theatre system.

FYI - Officeworks carry the same model so can be had for $65.84 after price beat.

    • Or use your everyday gift card (5% off) bought from Cashrewards and get some rewards points from the rewards card.

    • Donned. TY.

This is probably the cheapest region free one you will find, and it works fine but the remote is absolutely crap. And unfortunately it wont work with Samsungs smart remote either…

Other then that I cant fault it.

    • I bought a DVD player from Kmart ages ago, very very loud and had to turn up the volume to overcome the noise.

I would thoughly recommend as long as your comfortable with technology…. Not recommended as choice for a technophobic relative. Pros: Very decent blu ray and dvd picture and sound quality. Multiregion DVD playback without having to change settings. Blu rays require a manual menu change to select region but its easy to do and only needs switching when inserting a blu ray from a different region. Cons: Remote is crap as nagel points out and the onscreen menus look amateurish and requires some familiarisation to learn its quirks. Infrequently disc will freeze when loading and require player be switched off at the wall to restore it back to normal condition. If you have multiregional collection of dics the laser is a great buy.

Good price for a region free player. Considering JB Hifi are selling this for $99 as well.

I have an earlier model of this player and absolutely love it. Fine performance if you don't need the extras that come with expensive ones. The region-free feature is worth the price of admission!

  • It does VCD! I haven't heard that name for a long time..

  • Is there a taser brand UHD BLU RAY player?

    • Do you really want a UHD player that gives you a nasty zap each time you use it?

      • To zap thieves try to steal it.

  • Not that it should be the reasoning for buying this, on this basis alone, but Laser is an Australian owned and operated company, unfortunately this isn’t also made in Australia but jeez what is?

  • Is PS3 region free for both blu ray and games?

  • I'm sure most people in the market for this will already know, but do note that it is Full HD only. It will not play 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs. You'll need to spend more for that. As someone that doesn't own a 4k screen that's not a deal breaker for me by any means.

If you already own an Xbox One S or X, which will play 4k Bluray (but it isn't region free) this might save some wear on the drive for playing other stuff and give you the capability of playing other regions.
