Bugaboo Donkey Pram Stroller $1080 Was $1679 @ David Jones

1290

Although I find that if you’re a true ozbargainer you’d push your kids around in a wheelbarrow , I think this is a fantastic price for what is normally a much more expensive brand of pram, can be converted to a duo for twins and many many accessories for futureproofing overall will costly but many people buy this at I’ll price anyway so why not save a few hundred dollars ?? No click and collect available however it’s free delivery

"Wheelbarrow…" +1 just because you made me laugh :)

    • +1

Agree. And a secondhand one at that.

  • Note you need the tailored seat fabrics still

    • +12

      bugaboo isn’t a pram, it’s a life style ……….

      • +1

        sigh Wife can confirm.
+1 for Harry Potter seat fabrics.

  • +8

Bugaboo aren't trendy anymore… You need to push one of these in your activewear.

    • +2

Are you sure its not the guy being pushed by the activewear-wearing stroller, jv?

    • +1

that's for those that can't fit in the Aldi hammock ;)

    • +7

Got dragged along to a baby show and the quality and design of bugaboo terrible compared to the other brands we've seen. We got a Joolz but the redsbaby prams are half the price of bugaboo and are so much better.

      • +1 to redsbaby

        • Our redsbaby should ship today, reviews are great!

      • We bought Redsbaby as well. 3 years ago and still hoing strong. Had to change tyres once, but that’s it.

  • +4

Wheelbarrows are not cheap !!! They’re more expensive than most pram.

  • +35

Just remember that they amount you spend on baby equipment is a direct reflection of how much you love your child!
I got my son's pram from a kerbside pickup, if that's any indication.

    • but you love him more now ….. you can always make it up via the inheritance.

      • +4

He's old enough now to buy his own g'damn pram!

  • +6

    OH MY GEE WHIZ!

If it helps any you can make 4 x fortnightly repayments of $270 with AfterPay.

  • +5

Would go great with a Burberry bag.

  • These things were probably 50 bucks before a Kardashian was spotted pushing one around.

    • These were popular long before that thing.

  • +2

    Sweet fancy Moses!

Genuine question - why on earth is that so expensive? Is this just the mum scene equivalent of driving some ridiculously expensive car?

    • +21

why on earth is that so expensive?

So you can out parent the other parents.

    • Because it's kind of a must buy product for the parents. They just exploit that need.

    • +12

They are well made, with a good markup for everyone. Obviously don't cost anywhere near that to make. They even keep their price secondhand. You should be asking why spectacle frames cost $500 when there are under 10 parts in total, including the screws and a good laptop costs the same with a begillion parts.

  • +6

Put ya screamin kid in a $25 Kmart pram

    • +3

      or a shopping trolley ….

    • +1

As an actual user, I must correct this. It's $20 RRP, why pay more?

  • this is cheaper than a bugaboo buffalo, i don't recall bugaboo having much promotions for their prams when i was looking.

  • +17

I've owned one of these for 3 years now and I've owned about 3-4 different prams over the years and this is the best hands down. Yes, it's hella expensive - I've tried those K-Mart ones, and they're great if you're 4'10".

The best thing about these prams is they convert from narrow (for one kid) to wider for two kids side-by-side. When I say wider, it's still narrow enough to fit through standard door widths and standard shop/cafe aisles (just). The reason why this is awesome is if you've ever tried to push a (cheaper) pram that has one behind and one in front the centre of gravity is way off and it's super hard to turn those. Also, the kids tend to end up kicking one another and they can't see each other (Sometimes a good thing). It's also really easy to swap the seats/bassinets out, turn them around and really easy to collapse into a car. Mine fits (in it's widest config) into a small hatchback/Mitsubishi ASX.

This looks like it's the older model, as they have a Donkey² now (their branding, not mine) - but these are awesome.

I'd personally go in store to check it out first if you haven't already, but you won't regret buying this if you either have 2 little ones < 4 or you plan to have 2+ kids anytime soon.

    • +2

I'll second that. We bought one of these for our twins and agonised about it for months beforehand (firstly because they're expensive and secondly because they're trendy). But a mate with three kids advised us that a pram is something you interact with a LOT with babies and it's worth getting a good one.

Also, if you want an F111-style (ie: side-by-side) pram that can take baby capsules, this is pretty much your only option (or was a couple of years ago).

It fits easily into the boot of our VW Golf with only minimal breaking down (ie: in full-wide mode, with just the seats removed).

PS> They hold their value as well. Resale should be solid unless it's been shamelessly abused.

    • Thanks for the info

Deciding between this or the City Jogger.

My only concern is the width of this pram and the expensive costs for Bugaboo accessories/ add-on.

      • The bugaboo accessories are definitely pricey, but you can fit some generic brand items (e.g. we bought a cheapo cup holder instead of the bugaboo one).

      • You can buy secondhand accessories in EUC for around 50-80% off on Facebook bss sites

      • I'd say go check them out in person, but we've never had a problem with the width of this one/ours in any shop/place compared with regular prams

  • This is a good deal.

  • +2

There are cheaper and not worse options out there

    • There are cheaper, better, smaller and lighter options out there, I'm not talking about $20 Kmart strollers.
This thing is wider even if you can fold it.
And twice heavy than most other duo options.

      • +1

        What do you recommend?

Looking for a duo pram at the moment. Thanks

        • +1

Sell one child, then you can afford the buggaboo and not have to worry about the double.

        • redsbaby or strider compact they both same price range can fit two seats and lighter.
I end up go with redsbaby. Just don't buy bassinet, waste of money.

Even if you buy this, you still has to pay extra for second seat I think? for the RRP $1600, I wish frame is carbon fiber :)

Prams are free every hard rubbish day. Just get your city's hard rubbish schedule and you're probably gonna be in luck this very month.

  • +13

Pfft a true ozbargainer would just grab a trolley from Coles. Return the $1 deposit when they've grown up.

    • +9

…and claim the reward that they spotted an abandoned trolley.

  • +17

Time for xiaomi to get into the pram business and really shake things up.

One child policy in China makes it uneconomic

      • +1

Really? One child in how many hundreds of million couples?

      • +8

They cancelled that policy almost two years ago.

        • -1

          Chine newspaper told you so?

  • You can stack it with the discounted DJ gift cards.

If someone can be bothered. Please work out the final price.

    • I've missed that… where do we find these?

  • +4

$1100 gift card for $990 and then use cash rewards for a further 4.90% cashback.

    $52.92 rebate

$937.08 cost with $20 leftover on gift card

    • mother (profanity)!
      I forgot cashrewards.
This is my biggest mistake of the year!

    • How do you get the gift voucher 10% off?

  • +1

After trying $100, $1800 and pretty much everything in the middle you can't go past the Bugaboo.

I wasn't convinced till I tried about 10 different brand and models. Always came back to the Bugaboo.

    • +1

Yeah, I have had a quite a few and same experience. I do also like maclaren umbrella style strollers for portability and I think the baby jogger double which I have at the moment is decent albeit not as good as the bugaboo cameleon I had before it.

    • +4

You tested 10 in store, or bought 10 prams?!

      • Went to a baby show and road tested them all.
Folding, pushing, turning, dismantling, lifting etc.
The real cheapies I tried at bigw etc.

Like others I saw it as a huge waste of money on paper but after the above I was convinced.

    • +2

We prefer the Uppababy for its portability and simplicity.

    • Isn't the bugaboo kind of in 2 parts when it's folded up… like when it goes in a boot, and doesn't it have tyres that are air filled and can go flat?

      • Bugaboo doesn't have pneumatic tyres.
Was the reason I rejected another slightly cheaper brand

  • +4

The title is inaccurate. "Duo" should not be in the title. It indicates that the deal includes the Duo extension kit (about $300), when it does not.

  • Owned more than 10 prams here… Never go wrong with Bugaboo especially at this price.

  • +3

"Hey, they've got chairs with wheels.. and here I am using my legs like a sucker!"

  • Donkey2 came out so previous version will start being discounted at most shops;

I'm still single with no kids, should I buy one for the future?

    • +2

      I wouldn't.

By they time you have kids, you may have grown up a bit and so not be stupid enough to spend over a grand on something that's about 5% better than $200 prams just to keep up with the Joneses.

    • Why did you upvote if you're asking this?

      • +1

No, because by then there will be rocket fuelled prams and technology will have advanced to where the kids will be able to control them with their minds. Better off saving your bitcoins for then.

        • +1

Dependant how far into the future there might be exoskeletons for newborns and they can walk themselves straight out of the hospital. No need for these ancient gadget prams from the dark ages.

        • +1

Hopefully more like the Power Loader in James Cameron's Aliens than his Avatars. Way more badass!

  • Between our two kids we had 2 prams and 1 strollers

Bought one pram for the first one, when folded up we had to put one half of the back seats down to put it in the old car and took up most of the SUVs boot too, then when we went on a trip we bought a stroller which we ended up using when we went anywhere, even so that still takes up a lot of boot room.

Then with our second kid we bought a 2nd hand city select dual pram, and it takes up a huge amount of boot room as well, thankfully the older one grew out of the need for it on most trips, so we only use that for walks now, and still use the stroller for trips.

I'd much prefer the pockit stroller for space consciousness.

  • +1

No kidding but premium, longevity, reliability and top of the line seem to be all ozbargainers are interested in these days. The difference between this & a $200 pram are virtually identical.

    • +1

maybe some sister sites ozbogan.com.au and ozntthatfancy.com.au are in order

      • +2

sign me up for ozbogan if this is considered a bargain

  • Wife worked at two different baby stores and reckons these are horribly over priced for what you get. You're paying a huge markup for the 'prestige' factor.

  • I recommend not to go to chemist warehouse with your donkey

  • Good mark down. I have seen people trying to sell second-hand ones for this price ( not sure if they actually sell). Another option worth considering is the Mountain Buggy Duet. I believe the new v3 is more like $800. I just got an old second-hand Mountain Buggy cheap as its hard to know if the cost will be worth it for me.
