Virgin Mobile 15GB of Data for $32 Per Month on 12 Months SIM Only Plan

891

Plus data rollover and $200 worth of international calls.

Normally this plan is for $40 per month but the current promotion is offering 20% discount on all 12 months sim only plans bringing the cost down to $32 per month, furthermore 2 bill free months bringing the cost further down to $320 for 12 months = $26.66 per month. I believe it is a good bargain so thought I should share. Please delete if there is a better value out there with other competitors.

2 months free link is here https://www.virginmobile.com.au/monthly-mobile-plans/?i_cid=hm_wid_wid2_plans

Also don’t forget $45 cash rewards for new customers:)

[2 Months FREE is likely a superseded offer]

      What happens after 12 months?

      the sim self destructs…

      • +6

At least The Sims live a happy 12 month life.

        • +1

          But they die a virgin.

  • An extract from the fine print

20% off 12mth SIMs: sign up by 31 January 2018 to a new contracted $30, $35, $40, $50 or $60 12mth SIM Plan and receive 20% off your standard monthly access fee until you cancel or change plans. For new and upgrading customers only. Fair use policy applies. Not in conjunction with any other offer.

  • Sorry but on virgin website, I can see where it says 2 months free.
I don't need so much data. Can i get the $30 plan plus 20% off and 2 months free?

  • +1

which part of the virgin website that stated 2 months free on 12 mths sim only plan. Can't see it anywhere.

  • they are saying 2 months free is like 20%?

btw cash rewards is only for new numbers?

    • Well it is clearly written in bold that “ Get s cracker this Christmas with 2 months free”. So I believe they are doing the 2 months bill free promotion in addition to the 20% monthly discounted rate. If there is a confusion then we should clear it with Virgin.

      • +1

I can't see that 2 months free. All I see is 'Make This Christmas A Cracker With 20% Off'

    • Cash Rewards

“Cashback is paid on postpaid contracts and/or 12 month SIM only plans, and available to new Virgin Mobile customers only.”

  • How do they look at return customer? Which one do they see it as? new customer? Sorry but I do have a further question. I used to be their customer and actually paid higher monthly fee, I wonder if I will be eligible for this?

    • If you're with another provider you'll be a new customer if you go back. Done it before myself

  • +1

15GB includes 5GB bonus data. Is that just for the first month? Or all 12 months ? CIS says 10GB

    • Fine print is on the page OP linked:

$40 12mth SIM 5GB: Sign up by 28th December 2017 to a $40 12-month SIM Plan and you will receive an additional 5GB bonus on top of your standard monthly data allowance (to use in Oz) until you cancel or change plans. Fair Use Policy applies.

      • OP has expiry date for the offer as 31 Jan tho

        • So then I'd presume if you sign up after 28th Dec, the plan reverts back to 10gb, but 20% off still applies till 31 Jan?

        • @cpho: yeah it appears so

  • +6

$40 plan says minimum spend $384 making it $32 a month. Are you certain you get both 20% off AND 2 months free ?

  • $30 plan 5GB. $35 plan 1.5GB. That doesn't make much sense.

    • You get less data but more intentional minutes for the $35 but still doesn't make much sense to me as well.

  • -7

It says if you enter the promo code unwrap3gb you get an extra 3gb a month

  • Is Virgin mobile any good? Can someone confirm the $45 cashback applies to this deal?

    • +1

      as good as Optus.
$45 for new Virgin Mobile customers

  • I can't see the 2 months free either, might be targeted? There is a $100 credit but that is only for the phone plan where u have to add a handset onto the plan.

I can see the photo for it, but there's nothing about it in the terms and conditions…

      • yeah definitely getting a different offer to you .. ive got the site up through my laptop and get $100 credit instead of the 2 months free

        https://i.imgur.com/IlgGJFg.png

        • +1

I have that above the 2 months free. But looking on my laptop, I only get the $100 credit offer too.

Regardless, I will try my luck getting the 20% and 2 months free tomorrow.

  • I am tempted by the 5gb. I am on old Telstra plan (were you would get google play credit) so need a new plan. If you get 20% off it comes to 24x10=$240 -45 cashrewards= $195 for 12months. Kogan offers 6gb if you pay upfront, but I like for this one that you pay monthly and the unlimited music streaming (especially heart radio).
I will have an online chat tomorrow to ensure is both 20%off and 2 free months.

    • Yeah I'd check.

    • +1

Just be careful, the streaming says till 08/03/18, so the free service may be getting terminated after that. Confirmation would be great.

      • Thanks for pointing that out. I will double check

        • I'm on telstra encore and most likely going to Coles prepaid. $20 / 3GB / 35 day expiry

        • +1

@Pab23q: Hello Pab23q, I am also contemplating the Coles prepaid. I live in Sydney so the reception of Optus is very good (any carrier works where I live and work) so I am just after the cheapest and more data option. I only use around 1.5gb so 3gb should be plenty.

        • @fozzie:

Good to hear. I live in Sydney too so I reckon it will be ok. If I find that it's no good then I'll jump to Aldi =/

But Coles - great value indeed =)

        • +1

          @fozzie:

If you haven't seen it yet I'm about to go with the Woolworths prepaid plan posted with $10 for $30 starter here:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/347707

For recharge options theres $15->1GB and $20->3GB with 30days expiry, and I think rollover up to 15GB is available so you can alternate.

10% discount with rewards cards brings it to $13.5 and $18.

          @secondstory:
Thanks mate, I am also thinking about Kogan now for 1 year. Currently is $205, but there is discount vouchers going around (can be bought on here for $8.50 and gives $50 off). Plus if you have a referral you get another $10 off= $153.50 for 12 months with 6gb. That’s $12.75 a month. So you save another $5.25 each month and get extra data. Win win.

Note that this plan does not include international calls like most of the others do with Virgin..

    • downside with virgin as well is no roaming packs

      • +2

usually cheaper to buy sim at your destination anyway

    • It says 200 international minutes…

      • It also says on the link "International call not included"

        go figure????

        • +1

from what I understand, unlimited international calls aren't included but $200 credit is included for international calls.

        • Hm… So international calls are, or are not included!?

        • @GregMonarch:

They probably are, but the website contradicts itself.

I've been with them for many many years and I've never come across a plan that wasn't in that time.

        • @jv: Thanks.

    • +1

The critical information summary has international minutes included.

  • +1

Can't see the 2 bill free months on the website. Where exactly is this information?

    • Same here, can't find any information about 2 months free. Please remove from title until someone can confirm the deal.

  • I can see the 2m free on my iphone browser but not ipad, worth a try using a different browser.

  • is the 20% off the 2 months free??

  • +9

Looks like the 2 months free offer was replaced with the 20% discount offer. You don't get both. Some people saying the website images still show the old offer which could be a cache or hosting issue. Virginmobile always show their current offer in "The Fine Print" at the bottom of the page. It shows the new 20% discount there. The 2 months free offer was removed from this section and replaced by the 20% discount. Negging the post for visibility, nobody wants to commit to 12 months under a false belief.

    • Ok, thanks man not as tempting now…

    • +3

Post has been updated so I've revoked my negative vote. I actually think this is still a great offer, it works out to $28.25 per month if you factor in $45 cashback with Cashrewards. You don't get the unmetered TV streaming like Optus, but for users who don't place much value there it has some advantages over Optus. The international calls aren't limited to "selected" countries, it has rollover for data, and from what I've heard customer service isn't quite so bad.

  • Should I port my number from 36 dollars a month 14gb from Optus to this?

  • They have not upgraded the old graphic.

  • +2

To clarify, it is simply $32/month. 2 months free is not available.

  • Do virgin have data pooling on an account like Optus do? I see they have something where I can send the data to someone instead, not sure as good for a family but would work

    • +2

They have data gifting. We're forever gifting to our teenager.

      • +1

        They have data gifting.

        I know!!!
Great for Xmas gifts to the family !!!

  • I'm comparing this with the Optus deal to inform someone else: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348354

Q1: Which one is better value? Virgin $200 of international calls & text, or Optus 300 international minutes & text?

Q2: Is the $45 Cashrewards cashback for new Virgin customers, or new Cashrewards customers?

    • +1

new virgin customers and Q1 depends on which countries you want to talk to, Virgin from memory don't have as many restrictions as Optus which only allows international calls for selected countries in their list.

  • No deal. Optus is offering better deal with 25% discount on $40 with 15GB, 300 International Minutes, and Entertainment Pack (Optus Sport, Mobile TV Streaming, Music Streaming).
    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/sim-only

    • Yeah but if they don't need the entertainment… Which is better value (which one goes further)… $200 or 300 minutes?

    • +1

Data rollover isn't available on Optus.

  • Hmmm so, the only differences are:

    Virgin:
$32 per month for 12 months
data roll over and data gifting
200 DOLLARS standard international calls and text

    Optus:
$30 per month for 12 months
no data rollover or data gifting
300 MINUTES standard international calls and text

They both have data free streaming for spotify, google play, iheart radio

But Optus offers data free streaming for Yes TV by Fetch, Netflix, Stan, ABC iview, ABC KIDS iview, ABC ME, National Geographic, Optus sport

I think I might go with Optus, data free Netflix and Stan is too good to pass up I think. Although Data rollover of Virgin is very tempting as I won't always use 15gb every month (but it's only for the next month then resets)

I don't call internationally so for me it really comes down to data rollover and data gifting and less streaming options, Vs. extra streaming options (netflix and stan are my big ones)

    • which one is less likely to stuff up your plan which takes 2 hrs to rectify?

    • Belong has proper data rollover, not just until next month. A little more expensive (15GB for $40) but you can also go down to 3GB whenever you want to save money
