iwas interested for this for dad previouskly , are the senior discounts still a thing

Just a heads-up for anyone who needs roaming occasionally — Moose Mobile charges a $200 deposit to turn it on.

    • What is the deposit for? Do they give it back?

      • +1

        Yes

We will require a $200 prepayment that will act as a credit on your account before we can activate international roaming for you. Once you have returned to Australia you can opt to have any unused amount of this credit refunded to you 30 days after your arrival.

          Interesting, thanks

@Not Applicable: what a high deposit for such a thing

            • +1
            • @capslock janitor: First time I hear such a deposit exists
The other carriers do not appear to be doing the same.

I wonder why the deposit…is it to ensure legit use overseas?

@YoursTruly: I suspect it's because it's easy to rack up a huge bill when roaming and they aren't doing credit checks on you before establishing the service. They've probably been stung before and people refused to pay the bills, so this is a bit of a safety buffer for them.

    • I don't think anyone but Vodafone have decent roaming, but yeah $200 up front is a bit rich, then their fees whilst over there are atrocious.

They don't do conference calling either which is so 2000's and their app is pretty flaky.

      • I agree and stay with them because of this. I wish there were better options for roaming. I get local sims for kids overseas so might jump on this for them.

        • I use Amaysim 365 days roaming for bargain 20 something bucks. you don't get much data, but enough and good for many trips… easy to top up too.

A bit hard to find on their website, but it is there.

Optus $5 roaming is good & also has Dubai included which voda doesn’t

        • Yeah i looked at that before i went OS last year, but they said i needed to go on a minimum 12 month contract, told them to go jump and got a travel Sim.

    • Is it something similar with Amaysim?

  • +7

    No eSIM. Shame.

  • Any activate by date?

  • +1

Any cancellation fee? TPG used to charge for it back in time.

  • +2

Can I Port in from Amaysim? They are also on the Optus network.

    • You can port to whatever RSP you want.

      • i heard porting between RSP with the same Network owner could have troubles,,dunno if thats still a thing

        • It shouldn't be an issue, IRRC.

  • +3

4G/5G speeds are limited to 100mbps, there is no conference calling, and no visual voicemail.

Optus really tightens the screws with their MVNOs.

    • Oh, i thought it was a moose mobile thing. Good to know.

I spent days on hold trying to cancel my service before the cheap price ended. I missed the cutoff and had to pay full price for another month.

    • +1

Just threaten them with TIO involvement and get your money back

      • -1

True, but then I'd have to wait days on hold again to talk to the only call center operator they have. It's $10 extra, I learnt my lesson and won't be using them again.

        • why not just port to a $2 sim

          • -1

@cephh: post paid often also requires separate contract cancellation

            • @seug123: oh wow so you cant just port out to a different provider?

              • @takobaba: I'm not sure if you need to give x amount of days notice, some post paid plans require this, read the CIS

                • @seug123: Not really, you can port-out whenever you want. You be charge the pro-rata fee for that month + any ECF + MPP.

            • @seug123: might charge an extra month but porting out will cancel the service with them, no further contact is required

  • Sky question maybe but will this work in a tablet?

I've been using Moose Mobile for 18+ months (and the kids) , uses Optus network, never had any issues.

  • new customers only?

  • can sign up until 31st March, is that correct?

  • Felix has been pretty good for $10 for 3-4 months
Wonder if this will fare any better.

And since it’s post-paid, perhaps it has the ability to be used on an Apple Watch as well. edit: found out it’s not possible as they don’t support eSIM :(

  • Moose mobile is very dodge company. It's better to stay away. They will rip you off when they get a chance. Here is my experience.
They don't support Volte while overseas and can not get even get sms unless you buy their roaming pack. I wanted to switch over to Felix while overseas. I needed to receive transfer confirmation as sms. They forced me to $200 deposit to receive 1 sms. I had no choice. They deducted $40 from $200 as they said I used phone data. In fact I just received 1 sms and transferred over to Felix on the spot. You have to request the remaining deposit amount after 30 days then it will take minimum 2 weeks to return the rest of the amount. If you forget and don't request the amount, they won't return the remaining deposit.

  • Currently with More Telecom (telstra) 38$ for 50gb.
will probably switch to this deal for 6 months and then look around again

  • How long can I wait before to activate the sim? any time limit?
