hmmm nothing spectacular really, is this a new plan?

  • i assume it's the 16gb version

More download than before (unless you are on the business plan). Handset repayment fee has gone up though. I have problems with Telstra Online usage meter for the past 3 months. Last month the total figure was 2X my actual usage. Tel$tra still cannot tell me what happened (actually, they also couldn't be bothered - since I am just a small customer). While coverage is very good for voice, 3G speed in Melbourne CBD can vary. In the office building where I work, I often get really bad download speed (worse than Optus or Vodafone at times) during business hours (so bad that I actuall regret choosing Tel$tra).

Make sure you ask for a detailed bill. Telstra's billing can be a bit fishy at times.

  • Hopefully this becomes available on the $49 plan for 3 and Vodafone shortly without extra handset repayments.

  • wheers the deal, seems only on byo phone,,,
    found it

    why is this a special?

Last month Telstra offered a $200 welcome credit to customers which meant the 16gb phone would have been free. It included bonus 250mb data to make it 500mb total and $400 calls as well. AND if you had other Telstra serivces (bigpond, foxtel etc) then it only cost $39 a month.

I was very tempted to bite, but I hate 2 year contracts and will wait for a good windows phone or the next iphone.

      I see nothing special here…
Better deals from other telcos, and now Optus has rolled out Dual Band 3G, it means great service from them and other resellers.

    • Am waiting for the next iPhone too! ;)

Totally unrelated, but I reckon Apple is gonna chicken out next year and just announce a new phone with the new carrier in US as their next "refresh". The space will be filled by the new iPad.

I'm happy to be proved wrong though.

        • I agree.

Look out for 64GB iPhone 4 next year, perhaps with slight mods to "fix" the antenna attenuation problem (or at least that's what they will say).

And a new iPad with higher resolution (but not retina) and at least a front facing camera for Facetime.

  • 1GB internet my phriend. double.

except that existing customers can switch over to the 1GB without charge so the new plans arn't all that exciting. You pay more upfront however you get 24 months of 1GB data whereas those who signed up earlier get 3 months of 500MB and 21 months of 1GB data but paid less upfront..

could you provide a link to this offer please

      • I'm on iPhone4 49 old cap with 512mb data. Will Telstra up the data gracefully to 1gb or do we have to shed our blood to claim it. Has anyone done it yet?

Doesn't seem like a bargain when Vodafone is offering unlimited calls & 1 GB for $4 cheaper.

I know Vodafone is currently having network issues, but still, they'll be resolved.

    • Putting aside Vodafones current woes, I would gladly pay $4/month more for Telstra coverage and NextG performance over crappy 3, Vodafone or Optus.

NextG latency is lower, speeds are significantly faster.

So getting Telstra 850 coverage and speed well worth the extra $4/month.

You can quickly go beyond the cap limit with Telstra 49 whereas Vodafone's 45 plan is infinite (for national standard voice & national/international SMS). So it's not just $4pm. You can't compare like that.

Personally, I'm using both Telstra's Family & Friends plan (with only $10 minimum spend) which now includes free 1G data for mobile internet access, incoming calls, and Vodafone's cap for making outgoing calls.

        • HOw do you get the family & friends plan?

          link?

        • Here's an idea. Don't. Is it really that hard for people to keep track of their mobile usage not send 100 SMS's a day or talk for hours on end on mobile phone?

  • heeey the phone prices have gone up, i thought that $299 for 32gb was already too much for the iphone on a contract! now $349..wtf.

Not sure why the hell they would do that..

should have signed up last month with the other deal, you can switch over and get the 1gb anyway.

    • Optus did the same thing - their iPhone 4 16GB package was $59 per month until about 5 days ago.

      It's now suddenly jumped up to $59 + $5 a month !

  • Could it be risk of loosing customers due to free unlocking is now factored in the pricing?

  • isnt it $175 upfront?

  • +1

it's a very silly move because some people won't take the offer up now especially considering a new iphone will be here within 5-6 months. The prices should have remained as they were, too expensive now.

i will not be signing up until the prices go back to what they were. A new windows phone will probably come along which will be better and cheaper anyway..

The heading and minimum cost in the description is misleading.

Heading is for iphone 4, where as the minimum is the 3GS.

    Minimum Cost with iPhone 3GS 8GB $1176

    Minimum Cost with iPhone 4 16GB $1351

And from the telstra site http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/phones/iphone/pricing.html, it is $175 upfront for an iphone 4

    • misleading indeed! thats -1 for being NOT iPhone 4 and NOT $1176 but actually $1351.

  • for those who are thinking of migrating to the 1g data plan from the old 500mb plan, you will have to pay out your previously used data from 3 months ago. I have just migrated to the new 1g plan but telstra told me that I have to pay around $20 worth of previously used data on my plan.

    • Nonsense. You have paid for your previous months usage and that's final. All you will see on your next bill will be partial changes for the old plan and the new plan. Because the cost of both these plans are the same you should find the data component will add upo to $10.
