any advantage of getting v2 over v1 ? Also is it worth having one of these. Reviews Ive seen online, seem to indicate theres a lag between ringing doorbell and getting/answering notification on phone. something like up to 1 min or something, which by that time someone might be leaving your front door.

    • V1 was recording in 720p.
      V2 is recording in 1080p.

Reviews mention significant improvements in picture quality and battery life.

      • But is it worth the extra $140?

        • I cannot speak for other people but to me, yes. If Im going to buy something, especially a camera where quality is primordial, I try to buy the best I can afford.

        • @Pielo: i have had V2 for quite a while now and its signifiantly better than the v1. If you have someone at your door you want ot be able to see clearly who it is (especially if they decide to break in afterwards). V2 is not battery powered. You have to supply a power supply so its a bit more involved to install. It can replace an existing manual door bell if you have one installed and piggy back on the power supply of the old bell. Not to mention using the physical bell as well.

V2 also allows you to customise the activation zones which is really useful for outlooks that have moving trees etc… You can block them out but keep the rest triggering your motion sensor.

        • @unifex: I have the V2 and it is definitely battery powered (I even bought a spare battery).

          @Sven Nijs:

          Mine is external power only

I think the 2 is different from the pro. I thought the version 2 was the Au version of the pro.
          Pro is external battery only

          My mistake.
Still highly recommend getting a 1k camera (which ever 2 or pro version).

    • I’ve got a V1 - have had it for just under 1 year. Overall it’s fantastic. Haven’t had any issues with lag - but depending on your internet upload speed the video upload quality may suffer.
I’ve set it for both doorbell and motion detection. In that time I’ve charged the battery 3 times- get around 3 months per charge.

As a tool, it’s highly useful. And it’s great to provide peace of mind regarding people snooping around your front door.

    • Yes. there is sometimes a lag.

  • This is 189 at Harvey’s. How much is the chime normally?

  • Ring Au website RRP is $189 and $79 for Chim Pro. So the package retail for $269. Not $299.

    • That's because Costco haven't taken into account the new lowered ring v1 price.

Guys consider the Netgear Arlo Pro/ Arlo Pro 2 as well. Some pretty good deals during those 20% off ebay sales. I ended up buying that over the ring doorbell mainly due to not having to pay a subscription fee for limited cloud access/and being able to save clips to USB/Phone.

Downside is that the arlo pro is a camera with motion sensor, not an actual doorbell but you can still hear/talk to people while livestreaming after you get an alert that someone is at your door.

Arlo's base station (included) also comes with a really loud alarm that you can choose to set off if you see someone dodgy outside your house.

I'm not affiliated with either company etc. Just giving my thoughts after having done the research recently.

    • You might as well get a MI WiFi Camera that would be even cheaper

      • No battery so can't easily mount it outside
