I don't see why you'd want a 300mhz netbook when you can buy an Acer emachines netbook with an Intel x86 based processor (1.6ghz) for $199…

Do you know a bit about WinCE?Can I copy Word and Excel documents on there and work with them or do I need to convert them before working with them on a WinCE machine?
Also, can a WinCE machine copy files from say an SD card reader to a portable hard drive?

copying excel and word docs and converting them and copying files from a SD card reader to a portable drive ——> well, that sums up 98% of all the work that every single person does on a computer.
I don't think so, not natively anyway! There are readers installed in these kind of devices, but I've never used them so I can't speak to their efficiency.
IIRC there's no MS Office versions for CE like windows mobile, but there are some third party apps that used to claim full editing capability! ;)
It will be interesting to see if these things get re-released in the coming year running android. At $130 they could even be vaguely useful at that price as a disposable system.
300MHz wouldn't be fun on Android… it's not particularly fun on 600MHz!

WinCE is bad. It's not even a full operating system. It's what PDAs in the Olde Times had.
1.5-2 hours battery life "depending on actual usage" is very bad for a netbook.

My HTC Legend is a better computer — it is a 2 years old mobile phone, and 600 mhz processor.
