Thermomix is offering 50% off all it's recipe chips as part of it's 12 days of Christmas. This offer is open until 5PM AWST (which I think is 8PM ADST - or is it 7PM?)
This is for all TM5 owners to enjoy.

Nah, that was the TM31
I don’t know what that means. Why do they name them like bombs
TM31 has some issues with the lid staying on, and possibly hot liquid spraying out at you. That is what I thought you were talking about.
@pax: sounds terrifying
Interesting. This is basically a 'hardware-based' downloadable content for cooking?
Purchasable content..
the downloadable bit is meant to come as a separate chip which you can link via bluetooth to another device and upload recipes from there. I didn't know about the Cook Key link to cookadoo site.
We own the Cook-Key which allows the TM5 a WiFi link to the cookadoo website and with the subscription eliminates the need for the chips.
Nice…. I want to get the Key which allows you to upload your own recipes
So all the recipes on the chips are available through the Cookidoo site? I notice they have a bonus at the moment with the purchase of the key where you get a festive recipes chip with it. If those were on the website, you wouldn't need the chip, which is why I ask.
Yea. We have the cook key which syncs the recipes that you add. You still need a computer. I don't know why it doesn't do more such as being able to actaully do it all from the tm5? Just seems like a waste of money that you still need a computer to access the recipes.
you pay for the cookidoo subscription. You can also access other countries eg U.K., USA etc.
What are recipe chips?
Tasty morsels of potato sprinkled with salt.
Lmfao
Thermomix: A pyramid scheme where stay-at-home-mothers trick each other into paying two thousand dollars to make risotto in only 85% of the time it takes using a saucepan and knife.
We own a Thermomix. I was a massive skeptic when we first bought it. My wife was the one that wanted it because a couple of her friends had one and rated it. We originally bought the previous model in 2013 and have since upgraded to the latest model. My wife uses it for virtually every meal in our house. Not always exclusively but almost always to perform some function - chopping, stirring, heating, rice-making etc.
Since owning it, we've had much more variety in our meals, far far less processed products in our food, and many more home-cooked meals. My wife does the majority of cooking in our home but I find myself using it for all manner of things. I make smoothies for breakfast, custard for ice cream bases and blend ingredients for my bbq rubs, to name a few.
Could we do all these things with a collection of other appliances? Absolutely. Would we? Probably not. The convenience makes the difference in a household with two young kids and the number of activities going on at any one time. You mention the Risotto. Yep, hardly saves any time but it's not the point. You chuck everything in, set the timer, go away and do a bunch of other stuff and the chime sounds when it's done. You don't stand there for 20 minutes doing nothing else but stirring the bloody thing.
Rant over. Yep, I'm a converted cult fanboy. I don't give a toss if anyone else buys one. I'm relaying our first-hand experience and I assure you, I'm a tough customer. We're probably in the exact sweet spot for their target market. Time-poor parents of young kids with a passion for minimising processed food in our diets, a love of variety and a desire to minimise the number of times we eat out. I doubt we'd have bought one 10 years ago before the kids.
I absolutely love mine. I can make a lot of things I probably would’ve never been confident making without it. It’s not for everyone but I can’t imagine not having it these days.
I also use it as a time saver, even though the amount of time to execute would not change much.
I made meatballs in the Thermomix last night to cook in passata and have with spaghetti. The rest was done on the stove, but for the time to chop, and then mix the ingredients I got to do other jobs. On a week night, time is a premium.
I only use it a couple of times a week, mostly to assist with meals. My wife uses it more.
It is great to make jams and sauces where you need to stir continuously, whilst it is cooking. It gives me time back to do other jobs. Some cooking though I do it the old fashioned way, because I just love to chop, prepare and cook.
I'm with bigrizz, the Mrs busted my balls until I just bought one for her. I genuinely thought it was going to be the biggest waste of money but she uses it so much for so many different things from yogurt to sauces to custards etc. We very rarely do a whole meal in the thermomix but it does get used almost every day.
Lol Trick is a harsh word. Yeh agree it's bloody expensive. But you are paying for good community support, good motor and the blade doesn't blunt because you resharpen by just blending ice. Eg made smoothies.
Like bigrizz says its the set and go off do other stuff that's the point of owning one. I don't think it cooks a meal as good as on the stove , but on weekdays who cares.
Maybe check out free home demos hosted by friends to see it in action and eat free food
And no I'm not a thermomix seller.
Does anyone know what the previous days offers were? I can't seem to find them. Mrs is interested, despite us not being able to act on them any more. We are looking to buy a Thermomix in the new year, once we get through the Xmas cash drain.
They are published on the TM Facebook group, so I'd look there.
Sounds like a blast
