  • Thanks OP.

Those who have registered the HN AMEX deal (Buy $400 get $100) can get HN to price match it, get $100 cashback from AMEX (or even $200 cashback if you managed to top up the invoice to $800+ !) And of course you'll miss the $50 TGG store credit.

    It'll work, I've tried it

    • Argh, this or a6500.

      • Sony A6000. I got one from HN

        • How much is the lens alone worth?
The a6500 has so many more features.

      • The 6000 has a different sensor from the 6300 and 6500.

Also the IBIS on the 6500 is nice because Sigma's very nice and cheap lenses don't have stabilisation built in. The extra dial and configurable buttons are nice on the 6500.

        6500 costs waaay more though.

      • The main difference is 4k video and body image stabilization. If you shoot 4k, then get the a6500. Otherwise the benefits are minor for such a drastic increase in price.

        • I'd say the improved autofocus, EVF, buffer and overall usability (more custom buttons/switches and touch screen) add a lot of value to the camera.

          a6500 advantages vs a6000:
          - Updated sensor processing for marginally improved dynamic range and high ISO performance
          - 4k video
          - 5-axis In body stabilisation (IBIS)
          - Touch screen for focus
          - 2359k dot Electronic viewfinder (vs 1440k)
          - 425 Phase-Detect Points (vs 179) for faster, more accurate AF
          - AF-C EyeAF Support (A6000 can do EyeAF in AF-S, not AF-C)
          - Updated menu design
          - Additional custom menu mode (M2) on the mode dial
          - Additional programmable custom button
          - AEL/AF/MF switch toggle instead of single button
          - MUCH larger image buffer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcliT9V12jg)

So basically if you're a sport or wildlife photog, the difference is massive.

@Anders: Yeah, no. Not worth 4x the price to the average casual/enthusiast that the a6000 is originally targeted at. And definitely not bargain worthy as its just overkill. Also, if youre a paid professional wildlife or sports photographer, you'd be better off with a DSLR instead of Sony's poor selection of native telephoto APS-C lenses. A6500 excels at video.

          @Orpheus:
Oh sorry, didn't realise you spoke on behalf of all photographers and their needs!

I'll remember that next time you post a half-baked list of reasons why someone may choose this camera over that camera, solely based on opinion. The value placed on a camera that may get the shot vs. one that may not is up to the photographer, not you. Give your opinion, sure, but at least accompany it with a more complete comparison without dismissing the opinion of others.

Besides, how can you not see how a higher-res EVF, faster AF and vastly improved buffer is a substantial upgrade? Do you also struggle to see how a 4k HDR TV at 120hz is substantially more expensive than a 1080p 8bit TV at 60hz?

@Anders: You know what, you're right. Lets recommend the people after a bargain budget entry level camera and lens for $550, to get a $1500+ model camera instead with no lens. That bigger buffer and higher res EVF will make all the difference to those family vacation pics! Not to mention uploading those 4k videos to social media only for it to be resized, will be the icing on the cake!

        • @Orpheus: at what point did @YellowKnight say he was looking for a camera purely for vacation shots? If he's willing to even consider the a6500, despite its obvious price diff, then you have to consider the fact that he values the camera's additional features, of which you brushed over dismissively.

        • @Anders: Generally if you have to ask, odds are you dont need it. Also someone after shooting video would not consider the a6000 in the first place.

      • get the a6500 if you mainly shoot video

      • Get this. Much better value imho. Not a huge difference in sensor between models. Certainly not worth 4x the price.

The a6000 shoots video fine. Just not 4k.

    • Yep I was going to do this….ended up buying my Mrs an Olympus OM-D EM-10mkii so that we can share lenses….otherwise this is the best option for an excellent camera!

    • gonna go for an AMEX card…
