yay! or more like half a yay!

10% is a feeble response to Amazon launch. I'll be at amazon.com.au tomorrow

      • +35

TBH I can't wait for Amazon to launch, not because I think it will be amazing, more because just like people misguidedly keep thinking eBay is going to offer 20% off sitewide but they never do, I think peoples expectations of the prices Amazon is going to offer are also pretty misguided and will be quite disappointed.

      • +1

From what i've heard, amazon's seller fees are mostly higher than ebay. Im not sure why amazon would be a threat to ebay…

        • +15

Yea but Amazon doesnt jack up prices and their customer services and returns policy is superb.

The price jacking has really put me off buying anything from ebay despite the 10-15% deals.

        • +8

@Bluberry: Strange, I've bought several things during ebay sales, off retailers' regular (not inflated) prices. Perhaps it's certain businesses in particular.

Maybe I'm just special. My mum says so!

        • +3

@Bluberry: price jacking is done by the sellers not ebay. ebay didnt ask them to price jack…

this is equivalent of merchants passing on credit card charges to consumers with a "x%" surcharge if using credit cards.

i've never had issues with ebay returns. always ruled in my favour (because legitly i was in the right).

        • +2

@dabell: probably only if sellers have to pay for the discount but site wide eBay usually pays for it

        • @Bluberry: Not all sellers jacked up their prices.

        • +1

@dabell: Legitly - I like the use of that word. I'm going to use it.

        • @Bluberry: Amazon customer service sure is good, they gave me $100 back for 3 little screen dots on my Kindle Oasis… they were only visible when b/w inverted or text was over one of them.

      • +4

Amazon mistreats its workers by hiring them through job agencies, internationally.
Amazon also shifts its profits around and NOT paying proper taxes, globally.
So, do we really want to support Amazon who's not giving our people award wages and not paying for it social/moral responsibilities?
I guess some will and when they got screwed working for Amazon, they take it anyway.

        • +1

eBay also does all of these things (not that I'm excusing them for it).

Both shitty companies - just like every large company. We have capitalism to thank for that :)

        • All large companies like microsoft, google, facebook shift their money to other lower tax countries..

          Nothing new here..

      • Amazing loading….?????

It’s basically an ad driven show these days. Throw in a few neighbours from hell stories and Willesee and Wendt would be turning in their graves.

"……..and Willesee and Wendt would be turning in their graves."

Watching ACA is bad enough. But so dumb as to admit to watching it!?

    • +1

That's because they don't run an ad break after the news. They know they have to trick people into watching it because it's such trash

    • +3

Sad thing is it still gets me the best deal on a Nintendo Switch I can find

        • +2

Wait. Switch prices have dropped on numerous occasions as low as $369. If you are patient, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a switch for ~$420 or less within a month or two. (more sales might pop up post Christmas)

        • +2

@Ozbargain Lurker: Target has $450 which then becomes $405 which is pretty good. I was just wishing for 15 or 20 per cent off.

I wonder if 10% off will apply to Amazon Gift Cards

  • +10

they are obviously unaware about amazon

    • +8

      They are aware:

“We’re so confident on that we are offering a best-price promotion on all of our more than 15,000 deals items. We’re confident Australian retailers will seek to match [Amazon’s] prices. We also run big sales — tomorrow we’re going to do a site-wide coupon that will make the Black Friday deals even better.”

Best price? Ahahahahaha haha haha, oh man those guys!

      • +6

We’re confident Australian retailers will seek to match [Amazon’s] prices.

Guess they were having a try at comedy. Retailers more likely to up their prices to celebrate coupon codes.

  • +22

So the last few months the ebay discounts have been 20%, now 10% is a bargain ???

    • +73

      The site wide dea…oh, it’s you…

      • +16

There have been better site wide deals. You would expect them to do something amazing to counter Amazon. I'm with jv on this one.

        • +15

You would expect them to do something amazing to counter Amazon.

          You'd think so…

Maybe they've just accepted they are going to take an initial hit, wait and see what Amazon does and respond with something better when things cool down.

        • +3

@jv: My guess is Ebay knows retailers are already having sales on heaps of items so the extra 10% off will make those prices pretty good

        • +1

@TRENT86: it's only good if those retailers update their sale prices on their ebay listings. I'm sure some will but I'm also sure plenty won't.

    • And it appears that the 10% is already worked into the list price. What a disappointment. I should've bought when the PREZZY code was still active.

10% discount on normal prices may still work out better than 20% discount on hiked prices.

      I don't see how.

The listing/final value fees are at least 10% I'm sure.
