320GB TiVo for $449 (after $50 Cashback) Plus Free Wireless Adapter

70

Can be online purchase (which means postage charges) or bought from a retail store … so you can "negotiate" a better price :). The cashback is via redemption form. Looks like someone got theirs for $450 from JB HiFi - Castle Hill Sydney (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1034324&p…), so maybe a price match with the receipt in that forum and then after cashback it would be $400, looks like it might be possible :)

Here is the blurb on the TiVo website:

    Tivo's are bloody awesome

Unfortunately, you can't turn them off or put them on standby. So they're always chewing through 24W of power.

      • Yes you are right - TIVO not environmental friendly - I got the 1TB hard drive as well - I have to leave both on or else you loss everything - If I knew what I know now I would not have bought these power sucking pieces of technology - I personally would not recommend buying TIVO!!

Do you want to sell your power sucking tivo? :)

          365 days per year * 24 hours per day * .024 KW * .21351 $/kWH (Origin Energy) = $44.88 per year to run.

At least for me, the convenience of having shows/programs available on demand well and truly covers the $44. I have a 1 year old son too; having the wiggles and thomas the tank engine on demand to keep him entertained is priceless!

I purchased a standard Seagate 1TB sata drive a few years back and installed it directly inside my tivo; it saves me the cost of purchasing the the external tivo-branded drive, and also one less appliance to have running.

You may save yourself a few milliwatts if you disable the front LEDs on the device as well :)

        • I am trying to seek advice if anyone knows Mshannon's comment above, as cannot reply directly to Mshannon about changing the hard drive but it makes good sense and cheaper (320TB is tiny theese days and Tivo expander 1TB cost like $249, a ripoff and have wires running everywhere, they are so silly marketing wise!). I have 3 Pvr's experience already (incl Topfield etc) but none have the technology of the "season pass" that records favorite shows automatically whenever the damm TV network changes time slots etc without advice! It is also more friendly to the Enviro and the pocket when you can easily get 1TB for for less than $65 these days. will probably void warranty but worth it to me. I am seeking advice….. do you need to be very technical just to change the hard drive in terms of the OS as it might be hardware/software protected???
Any ideas anyone, your advice is much appreciated. Cheers!

        • See this thread for details on replacing internal tivo hd…

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1107007

Before even powering-up the Tivo for the very first time, I cloned/replaced the internal 160gb drive.
This way, in the unlikely event that something went wrong, I could at least return the original stock 160gb drive in to the unit - and it would appear to be factory settings.

        • Thanks Mshannon for the link….woo hoo I am off for a new Tivo!
If you don't mind me asking what drive did you installed, I am thinking of the 1TB WD10EVDS, what do you think?

  • This is a permanent price reduction. This price can be had anywhere that sells Tivo. The price is cheaper than what is was last week but not really a bargain as it is the current RRP.

  • Foxtel IQ2 if you like Foxtel; Tivo if you like free to air. Horses for courses but those with Foxtel IQ2 and those with Tivo (I've got Tivo) seem very happy.

With this price drop I'm considering a second Tivo for the second TV.

  • Does Tivo allow inputs to be connected, e.g. plugging in an Xbox and recording gameplay/foxtel streaming?

    • no; it contains internal twin DVB-T tuners.

  • Tivo is good…
There Customer Service is the Worst…
Took over 3 1/2 weeks and 8 phone calls to get a change over on a faulty Tivo only a month old and then you lose all your shows..

I got rid of it and can not say good things about Tivo Australia…
