Great price…..the new 8th gen XPS is actually cheaper than the 7th gen for some reason from the Dell Outlet.

  • any way I can add SSD to the Inspiron 15? and also get 20% off at same time through dell?

    • +3

+1 on this. If there was an SSD instead of the slow HDD in this, it would be near perfect for what I'm looking for.

  • This, or the Quad Core version for $1679?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-13-8th-Gen-Intel-Core-i7…

    • the 8th gen i5 is also quad core.

    • The i5 is also quad core I believe? Although the i7 model you linked is clocked higher at 4.0 GHz

      • Ok thanks guys. The 4.0Ghz version also has higher cache (8M vs 6M). Does that make a big difference?

        • +1

          I wouldn't worry…if only the i7 version has 16gb and 512gb….

        • @mg_k: I've been waiting for that model to appear on eBay since it was announced. I've only ever seen it from the dell site so far though. Hopefully it'll be added to the store soon.

        • Doesn't look like it's worth it for $200 - http://laptopmedia.com/comparisons/intel-core-i5-8250u-vs-co… - benchmarks give it about 20% improvement but real life tests are less than 10%, so in daily usage it wouldn't even be noticeable.

        • @EspadaV8:
          Waiting for this as well.

        • @EspadaV8: It's only 16% more in cost.

  • Does Dell XPS 13 have touch screen? I assume it has touch or no touch version

  • XPS 13 is delivery between 6 Dec to 5 Jan….dont like the sound of that

    • I bought an XPS on the 8th and its been delivered today. Although with Christmas coming YMMV.

      • Please give us feedback on build quality and etc.
        Thank you.

        • +1

Well I bought the 15 inch version but I had checked it out instores first. The lid is very nice, being aluminium, and everything feels flush and nothing groans or bends when i move it around. Im a little skeptical of the bottom as it seems to be silver plastic, and might be easy to scratch. I miss the numpad QQ.

**edit apparently the bottom is also aluminium. It feels so light and thin though that i could swear it was plastic!

        • @Chrool:

          Sounds great.
Did you get 7th gen CPU?
I think 8th gen is only available in 13".

**edit Ahhhh, I see… you got Inspiron then.

        • +1

          @SickDmith:
Yeah got the 7th gen CPU. Theres rumours going around that theyll bring out a new xps 15 in the next couple of months. I dont really think there was a huge performance increase in the i7 range, mainly the i5s that got a huge increase.

Ohh i got xps 15 believe me. 9560. Inspiron is way too chunky.

Edit** looks like the 8th gen U processors got a huge upgrade. However 9560 has hq and i dont believe those has been released in 8th gen yet.

        • @Chrool:
          Thank you.

  • If i could buy and pickup next week would be very attractive. I suppose thats not possible?

    • +1

Dell don't have a bricks and mortal store.

Their shipping is fast if they have stock. If they don't, you wouldn't be able to pick up anyway.

      • *mortar

        • They don't have a mortal one either. Hopefully.

      • Yeah, was hoping I could get it price matched at a b&m store. Guess not, ah well. Next time

  • Anyone know if this would be TRS eligible…. it says shipped from outside Australia. but being sold by dell Australia has me hopeful

    • +4

As I understand it, these are shipped directly to you from Dell's factory/distribution centre in Malaysia, but it is sold to you by Dell Australia. Therefore these are not grey-import, you pay GST, and have Australia based warranty.

      • +1

Correct. The invoice I received has from them recently has GSt breakdown on it.

Although I got it delivered to work and they neglected to use the billing address listed on ebay. Does anyone know if that's valid for TRS?

**Edit, rang them and yes its valid as long as your name is on there.

        • Thanks mates. appreciate the input. ill pull the trigger then.

  • XPS looks good. Worth waiting for the Black Friday sales instead ?

    • I’m in the same boat, should we buy this now or wait till Black Friday?

  • Omg. Seriously tempted by the DELL 13 but there's a new one coming in two months

    • gotta link?

        CES 2018 is around January 13 - 15th.

        That's the white one.

Over at JB HJ FI Sydney has a black one out already. I'm going today I'll definitely take pictures.

        • I was at JB HiFi Galleries Victoria looking at laptops 15 mins ago. They had no such thing as XPS 2018. I assume you mean at the JB in Westfield?

        • I believe you might be mistaken that it is the new 2018 version with slimmer dimensions. there is a new release at JB, but it is just the new 8th gen chip. it is still the same dimensions….

could be wrong, but thats what i saw in Mt gravatt QLD

        • @Justinism: I don't know how much slimmer it can get. It needs to be wide enough to house the USB ports.

        • I'm waiting for the white one myself.

        • @Justinism: https://i.imgur.com/yCmh8Ar.jpg

It looks like this? 8th gen i5 I think legit didn't want to look weird taking a photo of a display laptop.

        • @Sharp:

Not sure if its ALL JB HI FI but I did say Sydney.

Looks like this https://i.imgur.com/yCmh8Ar.jpg also there is no such thing as XPS 2018 its DELL XPS 13 (2018) 8th gen i5

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: That's the glossy touch screen version.

        • @lostn:

ahh (profanity) so it's not the new one? Daam. I even asked the guy if it wwas :C fkme

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: It could be the new one. The new and old versions both have glossy and matte versions of the screen.

I was only pointing out that it's the less popular glossy variant with QHD+ res.

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal:

Hye mate, That is a 2in1 type hinge.

So it cannot be the new XPS because XPS laptops with 8th Gen chip are not going to appear in the 2in1 form. 8th gen chip laptops in the 2in1 form will only appear in the inspiron range. so i believe you were looking at an XPS with a 7th gen chip labelled wrongly.

This is the slated new XPS 2018.

          https://www.laptopmag.com/images/wp/purch-api/incontent/2017…

Hinge is one long piece across the body.

    • So the new one doesn't have standard USB ports.
      Is a DongleBook now?

  • Can someone please let me know if this is primarily a gaming computer?

    • It's an ultrabook.. no it's not a gaming computer.

    • +2

As long as it's not 3D gaming, you can game on it. I wouldn't call it primarily a gaming computer though. Those laptops are thicker and have red LEDs all over it.

    • defo not a gaming pc.

Try Metabox for your gaming needs

  • Steer clear of Dell. They refuse warranty on a XPS13 (9630) after 9 months of use. Try dealing with their 'escalation team'!
