Woolworths Almond Kernels $9.90 for 750g pack, $13.20/Kg

670

Not the absolute cheapest according to an ozbargain search but not a bad deal and there hasn't been another in a while.

Product of Australia if that's important to you.

Soaking them in water for a day or two ( in the fridge ) then pealing the skin off is the healthiest way to eat them. You can also then make milk from these wet, moist fatties.

We can do that with RAW Aussie Almonds .. not all RAW USA Almonds work because they have been cooked a little to kill bugs. :)

          You really know your nuts.

Yes, activated almonds definitely do provide the most optimal health benefits.

      • activated almonds

Are they some sort of triggered nuts?

    • +1

I never skin them when making milk. (I don't even soak them to soften them up - the vitamix blitzes them quick enough, a cup of nuts to a litre of water). Just use a fine milk bag and you can also use the leftover meal for filler in cookies, etc.

      • Try soaking onetime.. taste is better

        • I have, numerous times. After various experiments I didn't find any significant returns on doing more than the bare minimum. The only thing I sometimes do that no-one ever talks about is boiling the milk to pasteurise it if I plan on keeping it longer than a few days.

activated almonds are healthier and removed the toxins from it to make it easier to digest.

There's lots of info about it..

There's lots of info about it..

Unfortunately most of this info comes from sources that don't have broadly accepted scientific credentials, and most often from sources that are promoting a particular type of diet as the best / most nutritious.

If someone could show me a statement about activated nuts from a reputable source I'd take it much more seriously.

          @thevofa:

Is the skin of almonds toxic?
Almond skins are brown because they contain tannins, an acidic and astringent substance that provokes Vata and Pitta. The cyanide in almond skins is toxic to the liver and starves the cells of oxygen (prana). … Almonds are much easier to digest when soaked for thirty six hours first.

Its good to get a mix of soaked skin off and skin on… so you dont consume too much phytate .. Soaking helps remove some of the phytate from the skin.

Almond skins contain a combination of antioxidants and vitamin E, which work to protect cells from free radical damage. Research suggests that there combination also work together to prevent LDL cholesterol oxidation, which contributes heart disease.
