  • FREE 6 Months Family Membership

How much does it normally cost?

    • +1

      It’s usually $4.99 per month, so $29.94.

      • thanks

  • just so throw out another free alternative, I prefer this system https://ssl.masterpasswordapp.com/

    • +1

This is not the same thing.

      • +1

I know, that's exactly why I prefer it.

Loved 1Password until they changed their business model to subscription. I personally just swapped over to the built in keychain in MacOS and iOS … does everything I need and does not cost anything extra.

    • +3

Yeah. Everything is a damn subscription these days. I get it for apps that require constant updates and stuff, but honestly, 1Password was expensive before the subscription model. iCloud Keychain is nice and free. Shame it doesn't transfer well to Windows. Although I don't really use Windows often, It'd be a really useful features for times where I need to.

      • There are definitely lots of nice features in 1Password but all the basics are done by keychain (and it is simple and straight forward !!!). For me there was even too much functionality in 1Password.

I own a 1Password licence (which you still can buy when you don't like the subscription … but they increased the price to a ridiculous amount) and upgraded always. There is a risk that they change their mind one day and don't support the next OS upgrade or don't upgrade functionality with the licence version … you never know. So I just changed over to keychain … simple and does the trick for me.

Syncing to Windows or Android is definitely a great plus of 1Password when you need this functionality.

You can keep using 1Password on the non-subscription model https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/67832/can-i-con…

      • Yeah, although a lot of their development is going towards the newer subscription-modelled versions of 1Password, you can still comfortably use the standalone vault versions on mobile, and you're just stuck with version 4.6.x of the desktop app for now (which still works as well, and it gets security updates at least).

They vouch to continue to support standalone vaults, so see how that goes…

        • +1

Doesn't have to be a standalone vault.. you just use Dropbox to sync.

        • Yeah I know, standalone is just the terminology as it's not relying on 1Password's servers to sync.

  • +1

i use lastpass. their free version can sync between different device

    • If you don't want to share passwords, you get the best of both worlds - quality and price. Eventually, you may want to share - at US$24+GST subscription, even for one per family (the rest use free), it's a tough sell.

  • I switched to 1Password (single payment) from Lastpass when it was bought by a bunch of cretins, and it's been good.

  • I was using 1Password free basic and decided to try the 1 month trial subscription. In the end I thought the extras weren’t worth it for me but after the free trial they freeze your account until you sign up :(

Storing your passwords online. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA!

    • Welcome to future hahaha

    • Lol,are you using spreadsheet or only use a single password for all your accounts? Or maybe you don't even remember all your online accounts.

      • Probably the latter, along with same password for all

      • +3

        or KeePass/KeePassX + Dropbox.

        • This is what I've been doing for years but the lack of integration and autocompletion is annoying. I've found Bitwarden to be a good alternative.

        • +1

+1,000. Who the hell would PAY for a service to do this?!?!?!

        • @Legoman:

Been using Lastpass premium for the last 3 years, been worth it for me so far & it saved me hundred of hours typing & trying to remember my passwords in all platform.

    • Do you understand encryption? You're not storing the password online, just an encrypted version of it.. without the master password 1Password has no more access to your passwords than anyone else.

  • +3

There is s good write up on the topic
    https://medium.com/@kennwhite/who-moved-my-cheese-1password-…

I bought all versions of 1Password for all available platforms before.
But I prefer not to encourage such subscription practice. 😀

  • Does this work if you already have an account but it's frozen?

  • I uses Lastpass. The free version is good enough in most use-case.

  • +2

My partner & I use KeePass, which is free - it's pretty awesome.
