1310

I picked up a couple of these with my $5 credit, they are really good. I am thinking to use it as sunglass while working.

Better check the UV protection level before using them as sunglasses.

    • +10

My thought exactly - otherwise you get dilated pupils, more UV exposure on the retina but no protection.

So I checked, and even though the glasses are discontinued and no longer available, there was a pdf product guide on the internet archive which says the smoke ones are rated as UV 400 so 100% UV blocking so it's all good as far as UV protection goes.

      • That's what I used to think too, but I think that might be a myth. UV is a very high energy waveform, and typically they get blocked by anything standing in the way. I fail to see how appreciable amounts could pass through a millimeter of tinted polycarbonate when even a thin window pane blocks 95% of uv

    • +7

      http://www.bollesafety.com.au/reference/smoke-1615502

Polarised and filters UVA & UVB to 99.9% as per the above website.

I use them whilst cutting the lawn and find them to be more than adequate protection.

    • They would have to be polycarbonate to be considered safety which has reasonable UV protection even without additional treatment

"I am thinking to use it as sunglass while working."

    Beats wearing them for diving.

  • +2

Thanks, bought one for myself and a few family members! bargain :) they appear to have been about $60 according to other websites

    • +3

That's correct, I remember buying them from Blackwoods for over $60 through my work about 10 years ago. Great fitting and comfortable, killed everything on the market back then. Great post and have bought 3 pairs!

    • they come in both a polarised and a standard lens. Id imagine the $60 pair were polarised. If anyone got the polarised type for $1, that's an awesome bargain.

  • +2

Awesome! Reversed over my pair ages ago when doing the lawns and never replaced them.
Just ordered for store pick up. Thanks for the heads up.

    • +4

      Why the negative vote?

    • +1

Yep….fluid and rubbing damages the film layer….no need to neg though….great deal

      • -8

Great deal if you believe single use for $1, and then discard is OK.

I don't, and that is why I negged.

  • +5

Good for dealing speed, thanks OP

  • Ordered 10 of these; nice gifts.
    $1 each + shipping = $19.95

Couldn't figure out the Cashback offer to work.
    A good bargain nevertheless!

    Thanks msmhw

    • -3

pair of $1 safety glasses as a gift?

      jeez…

      • +3

They are listed upwards of $70 on eBay and elsewhere… so should be a decent product.

It's the quality and the usefulness that matters?

Posts here indicate folks purposing these for cycling, driving and for the general outdoors.
        Why not?

Surely bargain value doesn't undermine its potential as a gift?

        • +5

The price of a gift is completely irrelevant. I sometimes worry about people who don't understand that!

  • +2

Eyeballs! your first set are free, the next set, PRICELESS!

  • sold out

    • +2

in your store location. try another store.

      • +1

as soon as I put in delivery post code (tried 2 50km apart) it gives me sold out….bummer

        WA btw

        • +2

bummer. I just bought a bunch of them for cycling (I drop my glasses every few months whilst riding and they inevitably break or get scratched)

        • Few for pickup in WA, at least SOR there is

        • @Spackbace:

tried north from yanchep to south Bunbury….no joy….

not having Ozbargain luck…yesterday the zuiko lens…today the bolle lens(es)

        • @zoner:

See my below comment. I have just 1 pair in my cart and changing postcodes is yielding those results

        • +1

          @Spackbace:

yep…I was too greedy with 10 since I wanted to share the love….guess less love to share….score! cheers!

        • i get my cycling glasses from the safety shop, they hve clear, yellow and smoke for about $6 each so all light conditions are covered.

can’t see myself buying bolle or oakley from sunglass hut or myer when they are so much cheaper at safety wear shops.

    Thanks, got 50.

I'm a bit cautious now, the polarized version says "polarized" on the lense, the image they used for this does not have that written on it, nor is it listed on the name. It says polarized in the description but maybe it was a mistake and they just copy and pasted it from the other one :/? I don't really need them if they are not polarised.. eugh. Hopefully it's just a design change.

    • They have the polarised ones on the sca site for $70.

      • +1

I know, these are listed as polarised too, according to the product description.

        "Is this product for you?

These unisex Sidewinder smoke-coloured polarised safety glasses by Bollé will help keep your eyes protected with style"

        • On the Bolle au site the only one they show that matches states they are polarised.. and do not have it written on them unlike the $70 pair on the SCA site. (just noticed.. the polarised ones on the sca site do not have it printed on the actual glasses.. just printed over the image.)
          http://www.bollesafety.com.au/reference/smoke-1615502
You can be sure @$1 they are not polarised as the SCA description says.

        • +1

          @xywolap:

Indeed, the lack of the writing on the lense and in the description is was what made me question it, :) it is obviously a mistake. It's still a good price though eh!

        • +1

          @Lunawinter: Sure is.. ordered 2.

    • +2

It's $1, there is no chance they will be polarised.

      • They should probably fix their website then!

        • +1

Lol, why am I being downvoted for pointing out an actual error from the website.. XD

    • +4

I have these and I can confirm that they are not polarised.

Still a great price however as the polarised version costs $70.99 from SCA.

      http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Bolle-Safety-Glasse…

Also for those unaware this $1 sale price ends on 13/10/17.

      • Thanks for the response, and yep… I went and looked at the description for the clear bolle glasses and it's obvious they just copied and pasted the description. Not good. I hope that no one has used these thinking they were protected.

        • +3

They will still be protected however they won't get the anti-glare clarity that polarization can provide.

        • @bickel72:

Forgot that polarisation helps with glare and not protection.. thanks haha.

    • I could live without the polarized as long as they have the approved UVA/UVB protection correct.

    • +2

Double checked with their documentation on website, seems these arent polarised.
However, they have antifog, antiscratch etc coating.

  • +4

Still in stock in WA @ Canning Vale, Gosnells, Osborne Park, Myaree, Joondalup, Whitford & Busselton, among others

    Removed expiry on the deal

  • Ordered 4 for pickup. Thanks OP.

  • +2

Street price seems to be $10-20 but no huge demand for them. I'm sure some brodens out there have bought 50 etc. thinking they can flip for $70 each, good luck!

Be lucky to resell a few to make less than 50 - also time energy etc etc all for being a broden. It is heartening to read that some really need these for gardening, work sheds, driving etc.

  • +1

    Good price… selling @ $20 elsewhere online.

  • +4

Here's hoping they accidentally give me the $70 pair.

    • Funny, I just got a call. They ran out of stock and exchanged it for a "similar more expensive pair". Not sure what yet. Probably these Elton John classics.

Hats off to their customer service though.

  • Sold out during checkout :(

    • Same for me.

  • These are great safety googles and work well as sunnies too. We literally fought over the new box of them when my boss provided us some for my old job. (we may have had the better pair, but the comfort factor would be the same).

  • +1

Went to sleep thinking I will buy some in the morning, now they are out of stock everywhere!!!
    Stupid me…

    • "Don't think, buy now" - should be the Ozbargain moto.

  • I don't know how you guys use these as 'safety' glasses… When doing what? I tried these thin types when grinding and ripped them off my face, after all the hot metal sparks they allowed in through the nose-bridge area. Then I mowed with them and a rock whacked me in the eye from somewhere in the nose area again. They're too thin on the face to trust my eyes to them.

    • My work supplies a similar bolle type. I wear them for general day to day wear and they are great.
Used these types of glasses for grinding including cutting pavers and metal no worries. Probably not ideal but better than nothing.

      • Hm, ok. I bought mine from a tool specialist store. Rarely use them because of those two experiences (both of which were the first two times I used them). They're not this brand, but they seemed to fit close to my face and same shape as these. So when it happened, I decided I'd never buy these thin sporty types again - only 'poindexter lab coat' type with huge lenses like on aviator sunglasses, or full-face vented plastic goggles. I'll try them on next time I'm in SCA.

        • You are probably better off with what your using safety wise so i wouldnt be in that big of a rush to change.
But my expeience is with a similar pair of bolles. Maybe my head shape fits them better? Or i have just been luckier so far.

  • Missed it :(
"This item is now sold out. Please remove it from your cart before proceeding"

  • Bought 5 for pickup from my local store. Used club credits so didn't cost anything!

Nice to have a few spares at home. One of those things that regularly seem to go missing when you need them!

  • Someone bought all 9 pairs from Gungahlin plus all others in all Canberra stores cleaned out in single orders so no one else could get a single pair. Thanks for that

    • Sour grapes? You snooze you lose.

  • +1

Who keeps marking these as expired? Still available in Wodonga, Wangaratta, Wagga…

    • +2

      …Darwin, Alice Springs, Mount Isa.

      • +2

Was just in SCA darwin and couldnt see any. Should of asked.
Just realised i forgot to get my castrol t shirt when i bought some oil.
        Just not my day..

        • Took ages for them to find my order in the cabinet (two pairs) Click & Collect. If they're still in stock online you could try ordering through the website; maybe they have a box or two out the back?

        • @Nomadesque:
Ordered. Chase up my shirt when i go pick them up

    • And Port Macquarie….

  • +2

Their phone call woke me. Picked up the last 3 at Cessnock NSW.

  • +1

picked up this morning - not polarised.

  • I pick up mine today and can't tell if it is "Outdoor Untinted" or "Outdoor Tinted or photochromic" as per on the plastic bag it came in. Anyone got any idea?

    • Clearly they are tinted (no pun intended).

  • Scored the last one at Lithgow at around 1:30pm…thanks OP

  • got two pair at rockingham…8 left. no love until the third store i tried on a trip to perth. the dude there said these are for locals who come into the store and may purchase something else that they want/need. lazy brodens with their click and collect… the store stock is not updated online upon purchases that are packed up for click and collect customers for other stores.

  • +1

Well I don't know, SCA online took my money and issued an order number but after that nothing, no email receipt (checked junkmail), no sms, no love. I seem to be in limboland.

    • +1

All sorted now and collected from my selected store. No, not as per the ads description and whilst it's not immediately obvious, it does appear they provide, to quote, "adequate protection against sunglare and ultravoilet radiation from the sun".
      Thanks OP.
