    • Exactly. I tried that as well. Eventually, signed with Optus.
      I like Vodafone's $5 international roaming.

      • +1

Yes I do utilize that as well. Optus will end up costing $10 a day for roaming pack. Will just need to better organize myself for a local sim card when traveling.

  • FYI. So I placed an order this morning online for the flash sale 15GB with 12mths Premier League for $30/mth for 12mths (Normally $55/mth) product. Order email confirmation and copy of contract comes back this afternoon with the standard $55 per month charges without the discounts per the current promotion. So I followed up via online chat and via phone (painful 1 hour 20 min wait ATM) asking why is my contract not reflecting the current online flash sale Optus promotion. Both CSR's have assured me that the 25% discount + free Optus Sports (12 months) is in the mix, and this has been referred to "Optus Back end" for adjustment on the first invoice, and invoices thereafter. I have captured my sign up screens and chat logs just in case. Has anyone received a contract copy via email that reflects the actual $30 per month flash sale offer?

    • +1

I signed up for a similar deal to this last year and had a similar problem. My first couple of bills were shocking, they didn't have the discounts or any perks included so I had to constantly hit them up to fix it. Eventually they did though and credited me for the extra amount. Keep your eye on your account

      • Thanks Chodas. Yeah, initial account vigilance required here for sure….. Just hoping it is not one of these multiple monthly corrective efforts required - to get it right.

        • +1

Yep, Optus are hopeless about getting you set up with any discounts or special deals you have negotiated. I've wasted 7 hours getting them to honour the transfer from cable to NBN deal they agreed to in August.

      • +1

        Thanks for this link lanercost.

    • I signed up for the 18.75/month deal via chat and was told a similar thing. I don't trust them at all.

I highly recommend saving chat logs, because they've saved me in the past. I've been with Optus since the start of the year and they've probably got my monthly bill correct 3 times

  • How do I get the $30 plan down to $25?

  • finally time to dump my telstra plan that was grandfathered from 2011 lol

optus network is fine where I live

  • If my other half is already on Optus and I want to join this deal and data pool with her, is it better to port over separately first and then ask Optus to combine the two accounts to one billing account?
Or should I ask her to sign up using her online account and port over with my details?

Trying to go with the least hassle way (I'm not holding my breath for a smooth switch)

    • +1

Go with your second option let Optus port the number over into her account, they will combine the two numbers under one billing account so you can data pool. If you port over first you won't be eligible for this offer as the second service won't be a new service as your phone number will already be an Optus number.

  • Just signed up and the $30 plan is now $18.75 per month please revise post so more can jump on this deal!

    • just watch out for your first bill. i sign up for the $40 sim plus plan support to pay $30 for it, they charge my first bill $55.

      • Thanks for the heads up. Just checked my email and thankfully it says $18.75 per month. Will definitely keep an eye on the bills though. I was with Optus years ago and had the same thing happen.

  • +3

so, i port my number to optus signup for $40 sim plus epl deal.support to pay $30p/m. and got charge $55 for my first bill..No contract detail confirmation been send to email. got told that upon sim activation i will able to view my contract,ok, waited till sim arrived activated, still cant view my contract info, contact again, been told take up to 24-48hrs. ok wait. 3rd day contact, i still dont have my contract detail. got told to wait for couple days, 4th day got hit with $55 first bill. contact optus again got told to wait again to get the invoice to get generated, try to enter direct debit for the last 5 days. NOT sucess. Not a good experience for first time user for optus.

  • +2

I want to jump on this but all the complaints in here about their support and being overcharged are completely putting me off :S

    • Agree but I dont think any of the other major telcos will be that much different in terms of customer support either

  • +1

I'm starting to get use to Optus's (Telstra isn't much better) annoying customer support.
My contract is about to run out from the last $50 for 15GB/Unlimited deal, so decided to jump on the $30 for 15GB/Unlimited this time.

Edit: $30 to kill the contract - Had two months left.

Basically I had a chat for ages trying to get my current Optus postpaid to prepaid, they said it was booked for today.
Turns out that was never actually submitted (typical)… anyway I contacted them again today, and the transfer happened in like 10mins.

Recontacted and asked to be put onto the new $30 plan from Optus prepaid, and it took another 10mins and I had the new plan.

Optus online account view has updated with the new plan, but the rest of the options are broken.

Contract came through as this: http://oi63.tinypic.com/302xjm0.jpg
Which looks right according to what they were telling me.

    25% off $40 - comes to $30
and they add a manual promo discount of $5 + $10 to the bill (to cover the sports)

This all happened over their online chat, and after talking to about 8 or 9 different (probably not different) people.

I am still going to watch the first few bills, as others have said, they sometimes miss those discounts.

    • So they allow you to go for it if you're on optus prepaid? I thought you had to be a new customer, therefore porting from a different network.

      Thanks

      • +1

Yep sure do, just has to be a new PostPaid service.

        • Interesting. I just spoke to a guy based in Australia from the Optus Retention Team and he told me that porting out to a different network or moving across to prepaid doesn't immediately wipe out my account with optus as they still have to issue the final bill etc. He said that by doing so I take a risk that something might go wrong and the discount will not be applied as the system will recognise my numbers. Whether he right or wrong, it's hard to tell. All I know is that 'something going wrong at optus' is very likely and it'll cost me hours and hours to fix it over the phone. He advised me that over the past year they had a number of promos for current customers as well and he's sure that something new will pop up soon. So I guess I'm sticking to my $40 10GB month to month plan for now. It's not bad anyway.

          @7es7ash:
The second time that I contacted them, I asked them if I could still get the flash sale deal if it expired before my transfer to prepaid was completed. They assured me that I would still be able to, however I didn't trust that and took a record of the chat, just in case.

It didn't matter, I lost mobile connection, and just 30mins later I had the new plan.

This may of course had been luck, but if you are willing to put the effort in, then you will get the plan.
Sometimes the effort isn't worth it.

    • I spoke to them about this why none of the discounts etc. were recorded on the contract, Reason stop people taking it to preferred provider, before switch.

The guy i spoke to explained it all in 2 mins.

If the accounts team or whoever you speak to scroll to bottom very bottom of your page in their system it shows the discounts + offers applied.

I took his name and employee number means nothing to me but does to Optus and a description of where to find the details for the just in case same as you. but he could see what plan he could see exactly what i'd been offered and just said watch your first bill it will be as discussed.

the online only thing is crap too during weekdays you can speak to Optus sales team in Australia and when he said he would have had the whole thing done in 15 mins tops and it's not some special deal only the chat service know about, you have to wonder why they choose spend hours on chat.

      • I agree, but it highly depends upon the consultant that you get.

If you get a good person who can explain everything and knows what he/she is doing.
I would ask for his details and only deal with him/her.

Yep it's definitely not online only, can be done over the phone as well.
I don't know about in-store however, as I went in-store and the guy knew nothing about the promotion.
However that again could be just a bad consultant.

        • Agreed,

It was more to let you know where to get them to look for your plan details in their system (should the invoice be incorrect), i was in the same place 9 or so people couldn't confirm anything because they simply hadn't scrolled to the bottom of the account details page where the info is.

The guy i got from Adelaide sales team on the phone said anyone working in online and phone sales should know all about this. (apparently not from my experience but luckily i managed to find their star employee)

  • Just purchased this, any idea how long delivery is expected to take?

    • I ordered Thursday and sim was delivered Monday.

  • I am on the 10GB plan for $36 (after student discount) which is expiring in January. Want to sign onto this deal but Iam in no mood to go through the horrible optus customer service experience again.
Still a great deal though and if I had the time and patience, I would totally do the whole pre paid-post paid transfer to get this deal.

    • Wouldn't you need to pay out some/all of your remaining contract to sign up for this deal (Even if you do the pre-paid -> post-paid transfer)?

      • I thought so too but was told by a support agent via chat that their is no cancellation fee. I was surprised because I thought it was a 12 month contract. Didnt follow up as I am not looking to move plans atm.

        • so you didn't want to save $6/mth and have 5gb/mth more because you didn't want to commit to another 12mth contract?

        • @tonester:
I dont mind getting into the 12 month contract. Ive been flat out at work so didnt have a enough time to do this transfer. Maybe if this deal ran longer, I might have tried :-)

        • +2
  • Just trying to order but the 3GB plan is now $22.50 per month after I select the plan and hit next. The top banner still says '3GB data for just $18.75/mth'.
    Anyone seeing that?

    • +1

Yep and total min cost now is updated to $270.
      Wonder what the go is.

I think the flash sale was 25% off the $25 sim only plan (reduced down from $30 until Oct 2). But now it looks like they're doing 25% off the full $30.

      • Yep, I think you're right. I wonder if they'll still honour the $18.75 if you try to sign up via chat/phone

        • I managed to order through chat and they have no issue honouring the $18.75/mth. Now waiting for the SIM to be delivered.

    • Looks like they bumped it back down to $18.75 again

  • This offer is good though I’m looking for month to month sim only plans! Any suggestions or bargain?

    • How many gb do you need? Try moose mobile

      • Currently using unlimited talk and texts 4GB data with Vodafone. Contract to be finished 31st Sept.

  • Is it better to sign up with online chat or go to the local shop front? Seeing a lot of people here got charged more than they signed up for, which one is the better and safer option to avoid the situation?

    • I was told thay this is an online only sale and that I couldn't sign up in-store as I wanted to get it done asap

  • The graphics are different, but the same offer now seems to have been extended to the 2nd October 2017…

  • So I got this $18.75 plan for my mum who was previously optus prepaid and it was also handy to get optus sport for free.

However I just called Optus who said that this offer doesn't include being able to watch optus sport EPL on the website, you can only watch it on your app included with this offer/plan. I am really disappointed in this because it doesn't say that anywhere that I can see or even in the order confirmation I got via email from Optus.

They have said you can only watch optus sport using the app on the phone, and it won't let you watch it anywhere else..

  • This deal hasn’t expired but yet

  • I got charged the full price for this plan plus extra optus sports. I chatted to optus and they said the second bill will have the discounts. what?? this is ridiculous

    • They said that to me too. I said show me where in the terms and conditions does it say that it's from the second month only? They credited my account so that I only had to pay the correct amount. I suggest you try again.

      • Ok thanks I’ll try that
Did you say this on chat or by phone

  • Did anyone actually get charged correctly on their first bill?

  • i applied for $30 plan, and my first bill is $53.32.
They keep saying this is the first bill, and the 25% discount is prorata.
my service is activated on 25 sep, my cycle bill is 25 sep also.
they have managed to waive the $15 (optus sport), but keep arguing that the 25% discount cannot be applied to the first bill, and can only be prorata on the day my account is activated (1 day).
    what a bs!
btw, while i am typing this, i am still chatting with the billing support

    • Happened to my partner's account when she signed up a few months ago with the 25% friends and family deal.

They said it would apply from second bill. Second bill came and it was still full price.
Contacted them again and finally got it applied for the 3rd bill.

Even if they applied it correctly for the second bill, it makes their "total minimum cost" figure unattainable and a bit misleading to be honest.

      • just a quick update.
after half a day at office chatting with 2 billing supports and a senior resolution specialist. finally they have fixed my bills to be $30.
seriously, why Optus have to do it like this.
why cant they do it properly!

        • Good to hear.

I ended up messaging them on Twitter. I actually think their social media team is locally based and better at dealing with issues.

They asked my partner to call up and set a phone pin, then I quoted the pin to them on Twitter DM's and they authorised me to submit the query on her behalf.

After a day I got a message back that they'd fixed it and next bill confirmed it.

Maybe something for others to try if they're not getting anywhere through live chat.

  • Hi all,
I received a bill for $38.94 after signing up to the $18.75 plan.
Just got off the phone after 40 mins (after 10 mins of requesting a call back) having argued what the plan I signed up to included.
Eventually they agreed that Optus Sport subscription was included and I'm getting a new bill for $18.75.

Some data for those who also need to argue:

  • I just got off chat. The guy looked up my account and gave credit so my bill is $18.75 on first bill. I think optus got the message now and sorting things out. Because when I was on chat on Monday the optus staff kept saying it applies to second bill

    • Hi, did they reissue the bill or just ask you to pay less. Was it via live chat or phone call?

I was on live chat yesterday, the guy told me they can't give credit and insisted that the credit applies from second bill, not very helpful at all. I might have to give them a call tomorrow.

      • I just got off the live chat and was told the same thing. Also going to give them a call tomorrow, because that's not what I agreed to and it doesn't sound right at all.

        • I did it on chat. The guy was really helpful. Immediately gave credit on both my and partners account.

  • Have everyone received their first bill? its beyond fcked to be honest. They try to make everything so convoluted in hopes we just accept it. But no, just spend close to an hour on chat arguing with them on their shit. They just keep coming up with "Its advance billing, or first month is not discounted". full of shit. Got the correct amount in the end. I think most ppl make more in an hour then what they applied wrongly, which is such a bloody waste of time. But in the end of the day i just don't feel like paying more than what i signed up for.

    • Exactly what happene to me. Full monthly fee plus the supposed included Optus sport fee. Waste of time to argue with them, I only get the Optus Sport waived, paid $25 for the first bill which suppose to be $18.75 The whole experience feel like being cheated. The FAQ from the advertising even said the discount will applied from first bill. But the staff don't bother looking into it. One of the billing staff even said Optus Sport is never free, not knowing there is such plan sale. Hopeless.

      • well alternatively u can do what the rest did , just go TIO straight .. it will forces them to change it to whatever is advertised. their billing system is crap to be honest , i have a feeling those chat assistant gets some sort of commission from online sales , therefore they try offer it as full price before discounting instead of just the package price itself. Frankly it’s not rocket science, 30 a month means 30. Not 40-10+15-15 then + - number of days for some and not for some, that’s how the bill gets screwed up.. too many discount applied inconsistently until the point nobody know which part have they exactly discounted and which part they dint.
