In case anyone is in same situation as I was after signing up last year for 12 months (for the EPL) and letting it roll over to month to month - there is a slightly convoluted way of keeping your existing number (or if you are not tied into a contract at the moment)

    1. Get them to port your number to optus prepaid (no cost)
    2. wait for that to get actioned (they say 24 hrs mine took about 2hrs)
    3. Get them to sign you up to the above deal as a 'new' post paid customer (again say 24hrs for activation but took about 20 mins)

I did all of the above via chat earlier this week.

    • I am in your situation.. but what does 'second service' mean? Do you have another postpaid contract with Optus?

      • Offer is available for a new service or adding a second service (new number)

      • +2

only the one service just had to switch from post paid (month to month as previous 12 month sim only plan had expired) over to pre-paid (no cost) and then from that point they can sign you up as a 'new' customer with your now pre-paid number. its the same as porting to say Telstra and then back.
I was expecting problems with it and got emails of all chats and screen shots but in the end it all went smoothly (all be it I haven't had a bill yet so wait and see on that I guess:))

    • did the same last month.

    • I'll be trying to do this the same way as you so thanks for the info. Just wondering how you knew when the port to Optus prepaid was complete?

      • +1

phone went to SOS only - turned it off and on again and got a text welcoming me to prepaid - can also check your account.

        • Did you have to wait through a credit check as well? They say it's mandatory when going from prepaid to postpaid.

    • great, thanks for the info

    • Excellent, will be doing this once my 12 month contract expires tomorrow.

Can you just get them to do it for you via the chat or do you have to buy the $0 prepaid sim, port it over and then do it?

      • I had them do it over chat earlier and there was no mention of a sim at all.

  • Tried via chat… didn't work. Guess it depends on who you get on chat

    • +13

ended up leaving optus because they wouldnt provide me with this deal, and calling staff over the phone felt like a circle jerk, being passed to like 5 different people. (profanity) that shit, im out!

      • +11

Their support is one of the worst I've experienced. I'm always contacting them to dispute my billing and it's always a horrendous experience. You speak to one person who knows nothing, only to be transferred to another Jon Snow who also knows nothing!

        • +19

@rafael: You sound like a loudmouthed jerk. No need to take out your frustration on the in-store staff.

        • -1

          @BTRaynes:
I dont care. rest assure when i went to their store i ask for store manager straight directly.
And i never shout any swear words such as F word or any racist comment or something like that. All of my complaints are targetted to the company service provider.
I complained in a 'professional' way although a bit different as i already tried many times to complain over the phone and online but optus didnt fixed it for me.
they just dont pay any attention when i lodge complaints in a proper way.
Hence I did it like that.

  • Signed up to the $25 promo 2 weeks ago. Wish I waited this always happens to me.

    • You're not alone!

    • +2

Same, I just signed up for $40 for 12 gig 3 weeks ago with no premier league :(

    • Isn't there a 30 days cancellation policy by Optus?

    • Exactly same situation! Just signed up 2 weeks ago for $40/14gb sim only plan with no Optus Sport…
Chat with Support on the app and asked if they can change my current plan to prepaid so I can sign up for the new deal but they cannot do anything. Cancellation fee is too much.
Wish I could delay for 2 weeks to sign this deal…

      • Ah maybe the Sim only plan has different terms. I signed up to a $60 plan with phone at the beginning of the month and have now cancelled and handset returned, only needing to pay the 2 weeks I have actually used.

"Try out network for 30 days
Cancel anytime in the first 30 days with no cancellation fees. Just pay for what you owe and return the phone in good working order. New services only. Pay your plan fee, monthly handset repayment and any excluded usage. Limit one trial per service."

Optus always wanna more new customer to join, but does not look after existing customer. what a shame!!!

    • +1

That's corporate figures that "GAIN" culture is what management wants rather than actual or loyal customers.

  • +3

Website explicitly says new services only. OP, it might clarify things if you put that in the post.

Also, I don't get what "second service offer" means.

    • Also, I don't get what "second service offer" means.

addition to the current service that you own. so if you already have a plan with optus, you will be adding another one under the same account holder.

  • Only for second service? Is there a way to get around this?

  • Hi guys, just want to clarify. So, for a new service u get this plan for $30/month or is it dor second service?

  • Deal needs clarification. Confusing.

    • I've been on a chat session with a Optus rep after reading comments.

The flash sale does not mention anywhere on the page about 2nd service - I was not with them and the rep confirmed NEW services are available for the $30 for 15Gb.

  • +2

Very tempting, I would sign up if they could have the data stop or be shaped when you reach your limit, instead of charging you $10. I don't like giving permission to charge for something I didn't ask for.

    • you get warning texts at (I think) 50%, 75% and 100%, so I've found that manageable

      • +2

The text messages on postpaid are very delayed so you can't rely on them to know when to stop using data. Somehow it is incredibly accurate on prepaid. I doubt it's an accident - they like people going over their data allowance.

        • +1

Thankfully Android has pretty good management (with an auto cutoff) built in. I keep hoping Apple will add something similar for iOS.

  • Can't see how to port away to Optus postpaid without signing up for 12 months there. Maybe I need to port to another provider, which is going to involve some downtime

Edit: disregard, I was mixing my pre and post

  • +2

I'm currently experiencing woeful service from Optus (Home Cable and 4G) - reception in my area (Metro Melb, 15 minutes from CBD) is terrible and the latency to connect to sites has been ridiculous lately (although I think that's a wider global issue).

All these new customers and it seems it's choking their network.

  • +1

also for optus sport trial or possibly new postpaid customers :)

  • Yeah, this is super confusing.

I think the $18.75/month deal is the same one that was targeted via email a week or so ago. If that's the case, I think it's actually a 24 month contract you sign up to and you only get Premier League free for the first year.

What Optus need to do is offer a reasonably priced method to access the Premier League. I'm talking $10-$15 per month, no bull with it being on top of a current mobile/broadband service. Just give me one season EPL pass for a reasonable price and I'll buy it.

Their current offerings aren't attractive for people who just want to watch the bloody EPL and I'd hazard a guess that they're leaking money at the moment, given the huge sum they paid for the rights.

  • +1

I don't know why these deals so popular, sure it's cheap but I've found their coverage and speeds are trash

Even in my office right in Syd CBD have to always use my voda sim because my optus one is dead!

  • Is it possible to port your number later?

I have a Kogan service paid up until December. I'd like to buy this and just use it for data then port my number when the kogan expires.

    Thanks

  • Does anyone know what happens to the plan after 12 months? Will it trun to a month by month plan with same condition? Cheers.

    • Yes it will just run again and again.

  • +1

Just signed up an hour ago via live chat. Painless and really straightforward.

    Ported my number from Voda.

It appears they realize many people are asking to get the EPL offer 25% and now they made this a flash sale :)

Looking fwd to watch EPL … go Chelsea!

    • +2

We have a Manchester City fan here for the 2018/2019 season.

      • haa nah he's gonna be a united fan when they win ;)

        • Please any epl team but Man United. Any epl team other than Mourinho the classless pig

  • +1

can i stack up student discount on top? tried adding a service but cannot see where i can put my student coupon.

    • I asked in chat and they said no :(

  • +2

technically not 12 months EPL, EPL finishes in mid-May. So if join now you get roughly 8.5 months of EPL, rest for 2.5 months, then 1 more month …total 9.5 months…

    • +1

Prob worth noting that Optus is also showing the 2018 world cup games - hopefully on demand in same way as EPL - rather than the lottery of what ever game SBS decides to broadcast.

  • +4

Beware of Optus, they have the worse customer service and network I'm ever experienced! They have these cheap deals on purpose to get their contract sales up, but once you need assistance for billing, slow internet, dropouts, Fetch TV issues etc no one ever helps and only makes the problem worse! They're cheap for a reason, proceed with caution. Even if it was half price you end up having more issues than getting any good service. Vodafone is surprisingly much better in overall areas. Their Fixed Internet should be pretty good once it rolls out as well.

    • +1

I have had the opposite experience - decent reception, no drop outs and good customer service. Been with them for 8 months so far.

      • +2

I've only had good experiences with them. Been with them since 1999.

        • Also all positive here. Been with them for 3 yrs

  • Is it 15gb data per month along with Unlimited national calls & SMS and 300 mins of international calls for 30$ per month with 12 month contract??and also EPL free for 12 months??

  • Can it be confirmed that the Premier League is data free? It will definitely not eat into the 15 gigs??

    • Data free on Optus.

      • Is the Optus network signal good enough to live stream a game?

        • I personally haven't had any issues streaming over data but it of course depends on other factors such as your location, so I can only give anecdotal evidence.

  • Apologies if this has been answered before, but if I buy this can I use the Optus sport thing on another device (like android tv for example)?

  • Perfect timing. I just got all my grandfathered plans on virgin mobile cancelled. Now I can get more for even less than what I was paying on the grandfathered plans.

  • No existing customers
    Hate that

    • Buy the cheapest sim from the nearest store and port the number out to another service provider.
And then sign up for this plan and port back.

      • I'm signed up on the family and friends deal which is $30 for 12gb, not too bad

        • That's already pretty decent. 12 Gb / 15 Gb is not a big difference for me as I never used them up. :)

    • $2 sim port out and back in ?

      • I got charged port out fee last time from optus.

        • On prepaid ? I guess it's mostly the Post-paid, but yeah it's not very nice ~~

  • Can you keep this plan for longer than a year for the same price?

    • 25% discount will be applied to the monthly access fees for 24 months or until you recontract, change or cancel your plan.

So i am assuming you can extend your plan for another year for the same monthly price. However you lose Optus sport after 12 months.

Edit: Best to confirm with online chat.

      • The Rep I'm speaking to is saying that the $30 plan will become $40 after 24 months and the $18.75 plan will cost $25 after 34 months too.

        • or until you recontract, change or cancel your plan.

      • +1

I asked this on chat today and was assured it continued like normal:

        You • 03:53 PM
so after 12 months, it doesn't stay at $30?
        Brian C • 03:55 PM
Yes it will continue even after 12 months.
        You • 03:55 PM
oh okay. so no need to change anything after 12 months, it will stay at $30 until i end it and won't jump in price?
        Brian C • 03:56 PM
        Yes.

  • If i didnt sign up to Kogan for 12-months i would taken this up

  • If you guys can wait, I would highly recommend checking kogan mobile when there is a special on their 365 days plan. I am currently paying $26 a month for unlimited calls and messages with 16gb of data. I've signed up about 2 months ago and haven't had any issues or network drop outs (powered by vodafone). Was reluctant to move to Vodafone network at first but seems to operate same as Optus network. Definitely worth a look.

    • Wait till you Ski in snowy mountain or Great Ocean Road…

  • +1

Isnt the above a duplicate of https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/329255

    • i knew it, saw it before.

  • No roaming data, texts or calls.

  • +1

This plan is only available to new and recontracting services via Online and Telesales channels and for new services via Retail channels

does this mean if my contract is due to end, I can switch to this?

    • +2

the knob I spoke to today said it was for new and secondary accounts only.
      friggin ridiculous

      • what if I add it to my current account as secondary?

        • +1

          good question

        • +1

You can but it means new number.

  • +1

I am on optus prepaid..can i still use the same number? Thanks

  • If I have a broadband service and I get $10 off my mobile service, can I get this deal and get $10 off? Or I cannot use 2 offers?
Eg, sign up to $30 and pay $15 or sign up to $40 and pay $30

    • Nope, I was getting the same bundle discount on my cable plan and I made them carry it over to my NBN plan which is the $80 NBN plan. It isn't eligible for bundle discounts so I couldn't get them to discount this offer from $30 to $20, even when I got them to transfer me to mobile retention. Before they checked my plan they did say they wouldn't be able to apply the bundle discount as the #30 is already two discounts. I've been on the $60 plan which I bought at the special offer price of $40 then got the bundle discount = $30 a month. I'm out of contract. The plan gave me 10gb a month. To try to get the extra 5gb, I have signed up to this 15gb $30 offer online outside of Chat. I just selected "other" for service provider. The options were Telstra or Other. The offer is intended for new customers or adding a second number so they may not let me take it up. That would be Optus's usual crappy customer service.I ticked the option to port in my existing number which is with Optus so no porting required. I got an order receipt that says the order confirmation email will come in up to 48hours so I'll wait and see if they move me to the 15gb plan. If not I'll shop around and switch providers, maybe to Kogan if they offer 40% of their 365 day plans again soon.

      • Thank you for letting me know. Please let me know the outcome of your sign up attempt as it would be great if Optus looked after their existing clients for once.

  • +1

I tried signing up to the epl offer last Thursday night via web chat with my boyfriend on separate bills. We were told an email would come through within 24hrs. Nothing came through. I contacted optus via web chat and phone (after being on hold for their standard minimum 30mins).. they said it was pending and contact them again in 24hrs if it didn't come through. It still never came through.. i contacted them on web chat.. still pending. My boyfriend then received an email on Sunday .. but still nothing for me. Monday i was told my order couldn't be found so i had to sign up all over again. I received an email today saying to contact optus because they needed more details. When i called, they couldn't find my order again. They needed to sign up again for a 3rd time! Now, lets see if it goes through.. because i'm already not happy with their service :-(

  • +1

Doesn't this plan have unlimited calls to the countries listed?

  • I'm currently with optus and have my partner's phone in my account too. We have 1 month left in our current 24 month optus post paid plan and were told by the online rep that we weren't eligible for this plan and there was no way for us to access these deals :(

  • So if I take this $18 plan and my partner takes $30 plan we can data pool and have 18gb to share?

    • As long as the billing account is same, yes.

  • Love it except only 300min intnal calls.

    Any recomm for amaysim?

  • Vodafone couldn't match it. Optus here I come.
