SD 630 is a bit expensive for the price tbh but band 28 is a nice feature and might worth the asking price.

    • Right.
At the minimum should expect a QSD 660 or QSD 820 at this price bracket ($390-$510).

Why would someone buy this instead of Oneplus 3t for $449…?

    • +2

The sharp is a much nicer looking phone.

      • +17

One could say that it looks much sharper?

    • I would pick sharp at least because of the IPS screen

Cheaper on eBay using PHONE15 code here:

    https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Sharp-AQUOS-S2-FS8010-5-5-inch…?

and cash rewards, $420ish. Most likely get it sooner too

    • Good price. I wonder if the stock is sitting in Sydney.

Not sure, but QD's rep is pretty good regardless, even if it's in Taiwan they'll get it delivered here in a few days.

Wish they had the SD 660 version though.

Looks like a nice phone. The only thing that might be a real concern is ongoing SW updates. I wonder if it will get Android Oreo and beyond.

  • Note that this version has a plastic back whereas the SD660 one is glass.

SHARP? I want a phone, not a microwave.

More RAM, higher res-screen and higher screen-to-body ratio, bigger battery, AUX port and less than half the price of an iPhone 8. Yet people still wait in line for the iPhone 8…

    • The chip in the iPhone8/X SoC blows everything else away, and iOS never needed as much RAM as Android devices, nor did it burn as much power, so it doesn't need as big a battery. (Would be nice, though).

Sharp's going to have crappier camera, crappier support, an surely run out of updates sooner rather than later.

A11 in the iPhone 8 really kills the SD 835, but you're comparing a midrange phone with a midrange SoC to it?

Whilst I understand the price difference is pretty large, there's no way you can compare this phone to the iPhone.

I've been reading about this phone since it was revealed in early Aug. I gotta say, it's an absolutely gorgeous phone and for half the price for many of the flagships nowadays, it's certainly worth a look. At this point, I'd like to see a few more reviews on this phone first before jumping on it

  • iPhone X or this?

      apple fanboi detected! beep,,,beep,,,beep

  • It's got that little camera notch like the Essential phone. I wonder how many Android developers will update their app to take this into account, or if most apps just have a blind spot.

    S n a p d r a g o n 6 3 0!!!!!

that's why no buys sharp products anymore.

    • +1

Why? The 625 was a game changer in terms of mid range performance and battery life. It's an amazing SOC. The 630 is just the 625 but with a bit better performance.

      • Good for basic one app tasks. Multitasking will it.

        • Depends what you're multitasking with I guess. Never had any problems with my Redmi 4 Prime and multitasking.

    • That's ok, because Sharp Foxconn (Foxconn owns Sharp) are busy making the iPhones and supplying screens for them.

  • Veeeeeery tempted, but haven't really been able to find any info about Sharps "Smile UX" and how bad/good it is or how close to stock it is. Can only find one random link about flashing Oreo on it, but doesn't really say what the ROM is or how safe/stable it is.

The actual phone looks fantastic and has great specs.

  • None of the stock photos seem to show that the top corners of the display are cut off - as per this link:

    https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/08/sharp-aquos-s2-edge-to-e…

Can anyone confirm is this is really a thing? Total deal breaker if so.

    • Checkout this video. Shows the corners cut off on the homescreen, but in videos and games they're not cut off.

    • There's a setting where you can get to phone to fill the edges in (apparently it's "emulated"):

      https://attach.mobile01.com/attach/201709/mobile01-7f8d6ab3b…

They said the cut-off edges are designed to help absorb shock if the phone was dropped

    • like the essential phone they put the camera in the middle of the screen which actually breaks app compatibility so the native apps on the phone take advantage of the top portion of the screen, knowing to ignore the camera part which can't display anything. 3rd party apps use all the screen that is under the camera and emulate a small top bezel

It is cheaper and I personally prefer eglobal mob to gb mob.
