So you study for 6 years to save $25 at catch?

    • +3

you don't go into medicine for the money… or the sick $25 off at catch ;)

      • -3

you don't go into medicine for the money…

I know people who got into dentistry and medicine/surgery for exactly that reason, and social status.

Good luck to them once we see further improvements in robots and AI though.

        • +1

I know both kinds of doctors. It is a reasonably secure job and in general once you're qualified income the maximum income is achieved quickly. However there is simply not the opportunity to make the extremely high salaries paid in business.

I think there are going to be many other jobs disappear before doctors.

        • @xbai:

          ?

I admire doctors for what they do (intense education and high stress job), just saying that some do indeed go into the industry with wealth and status in mind, you don't need to be a kid about it.

        • "there is simply not the opportunity to make the extremely high salaries paid in business"
Yes a handful of CEOs make ridiculous salaries.. BUT if you want the best odds, medicine is still it.

        • @freo: Figures the ATO provides are open to manipulation. The financial structures a doctor can put in place are extremely limited, whereas for other careers there is significantly more flexibility.

It is also worth noting that:

The statistics found that male specialists earned roughly twice as much as their female counterparts, however it didn’t distinguish between full and part time.
According to the ATO, the statistics don’t include some of Australia’s top earners due to privacy protection or because their career title was unavailable.

No, you study to be a dentist so you can print money with unnecessary x-rays and unnecessary teeth cleaning.

      • +6

No, you study to be a dentist so people who have never met you tell you they hate you. You also study to be a dentist to be accused of doing unnecessary treatment and money grabbing. Most of all you study to be a dentist so you can work hard and ethically and not be appreciated.

        :)

        • I went to a mechanic that charged like a dentist… 105 per HR plus GST, hookers are likely cheaper…

        • @Slippery Fish:
Unfortunately society is set up so we pay others to do things we either can't or don't want to do ourselves. If you see value in paying for it, great, if you don't, well, that's your choice.

        • @splathowa: I have no issue paying but my normal mechanic is usually 55 a hr Inc GST, just my father was taking his in to them for something else and booked it in without asking me then when I got home it was already in being worked on lol. He was trying to help.

        • @Slippery Fish: Sometimes it's not about paying the cheapest price but also what sort of service and value you get out of it. If they provided something far above and beyond for an extra $50/hr maybe it was worth it, if not for you then other people.

Often it's quite difficult to get out of the mindset of comparing everything purely by price alone. I make a decent income, not printing money as some other dentists do, but I was raised in a lower income environment, and it has taken me years after starting work to finally get over the idea that sometimes it's not worth the inconvenience to save $5 or that wow paying extra for a service was worth it.

        • @splathowa: I get where your coming from, but the usual place does a great job and charges fair, at over twice the price they would have to just about detail your car free to be value…

Idk, maybe I'm being cheap but it took them 3 hours to change an alternator (was fiddly to get to I'll admit) but I wasn't expecting the high price and that's why I cringed lol

  • +2

    Sorry I’m an anti-dentite.

  • +3

here comes the fake doctors from OZB…

  • This does not make any sense, at all!

For someone that is on either a Doctors wage or Dental believe me… They have money!

$25.00 saving would be NOTHING to them.

    • +2

People with money more likely to be careful how they spend, because they worked hard to get there. Those insensible about money are either idiots or filthy rich or both.

      • People with money more likely to be careful how they spend, because they worked hard to get there.

        This is just wrong

    • +3

That's not true. The variation in wages is huge. Have a look at the Doctors in Training Award (covers hospital docs). Compare with going rates for GPs, physicians, psychiatrists, surgeons, obstetricians. It's not like you finish medical school and are suddenly rich!

  • +3

wow, now just waiting for the Reps next deal - 2% off aircraft carriers for Centrelink recipients

    • +1

      means tested im afraid

      • +1

The primary aircraft carrier is not counted towards assets if its your home.

  • +4

I'm a doctor - good deal! At the end of the day $25 is $25.

Better yet the doctorsclub thing which I hadn't heard of till just then - is free to join.

    • +3

Last time I checked doctorsclub didn't have a privacy policy. I'd image a vetted list of doctors is worth a reasonable amount to third parties.

      • +1

This. And the offers seem to be of the kind to take your money for 'prestige' things (i.e. expensive watches), further spreading that list around. And most medical colleges have something similar to this for their members and they're always the same - 'deals' for overpriced credit cards, watches etc that i'm sure a certain ilk are into - who don't really represent the majority.

        • And completely unnecessary. There are already extensive lists and databases of clinicians out there that are very well curated.

        • @mackaxx:

The AMA has a good one

      • Hi, here is our updated Privacy Policy:

Im glad its not a better deal.

    Beware

IT IS A CRIME UNDER AUSTRALIAN LAW TO IMPERSONATE A MEDICAL PRACTITIONER

    • It's interesting that this website only requires you to make a statement about it and doesn't require AHPRA details. Concerning.

      • It is a bit worrying as you can google a doctors name - put their details in and then create an account.

They 'verify' your account against the AHPRA website.

Still undecided on whether to keep my positive vote

        • It's a real problem isn't it - I don't know why AHPRA make the rego number publicly available, you should just be able to check that your doctor is registered/if any restrictions or not.

    • +1

No it isn't. There are plenty of actors who play doctors on TV who aren't real doctors. I'm pretty sure Rodger Corser never went to medical school!

      • Next your going to tell me that Dr. Feelgood is not a real Dr. I love Dr Cockburn.

        • +3

          Lol. Username checks out.

        • -1

          @TightBottom:

          😂😂😂

        • Sally Cockburn gives a commencement speech at to first year students at Monash each year.
          Cool lady

    • +1

Scared, look out for the Medical Mafia…

  • +2

I am not a doctor but it let me sign up. Thanks OP!!

    • +1

Make sure you use the title Dr in your order with catch to avoid any suspicious activity

      • Or Mr / Ms if you're a surgeon (in some states)

  • +3

    Do witch doctors qualify?

    • I signed up as a voodoo doctor - it didnt seem to mind.

    • Bomohs, dukuns, shamans and chiropractors too.

  • +4

Negging due to major issue with vendor/Store Rep OP. The description informs Store Rep OP's fellow OzBargain members …

This offer is only available to members of DoctorsClub.com.au
We have partnered with Catch.com.au bringing our members $25 off any purchases over $75!

… which is ludicrous and irrelevant because OP joined OzBargain - we have not joined something OP is in charge of. We can turn up at Costco and join there 364 days of the year, while this discount is unavailable to 99% of OzBargain members.

  • -3

Just what we need. More benefits for the medical fraternity.

    • +3

Agreed, save someone's life and get a thank you. Meanwhile we let the bloke making the coffee next door keep the change.

    • +5

Yea took my dad to see one of those money hungry scumbag doctors for arm pain. He insisted sending dad to hospital just cause he wanted to get all these useless and expensive tests done even though dad and I were really reluctant and didnt know what the fuss was about.

That was until my Dad had a cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital in the ambulance. Scariest thing watching someone do CPR on your dad. Thankfully we got to the hospital just in time and he survived. It turns out that doctor was right (he thought the arm pain was due to a heart attack) and saved my dads life! Forever grateful for his advice, patience, and persistance even with complete idiots like us

      • -2

Dr Google could have offered same advice for free
        https://www.heartfoundation.org.au/your-heart/heart-attack-s…

        • +2

Yeah but doctor google can't call an ambulance, nor do CPR on the way there. The medical community isn't just the doctors. It's the ambo's, the nurses, everyone involved including the medical receptionists. It's a big team of people committed to you not dying. Google can't do that.

        • @MissG: Bet google will wipe their tight bottom when in nursing home.

  • This deal is actually limited to only a small selection of crap on Catch. Dodgy.
