I've been trying to find a decently priced Thunderbolt 2 Dock… this is all I could muster up…
If anyone can find another with AUS plug AC Adapter in the next 5 hours, do tell.
The markdown for the item ends midnight 5/9/17 - otherwise it's $340

I have nfi why TBT and TBT devices are so expensive… probably because it was almost exclusive to apple before
most definitely intel's licencing fees
It's Intel Licensing fees like Nubix has said, however that should change in the new year as Intel has announced they will be dropping the fee.
I posted a thread on the Intel Developers boards and asked them if it were possible for me to make a driver to enable USB3.1 on TBT2 … I'm going to try
Is Thunderbolt even a thing or is just like for enterprise/business oriented stuff? I've not come across any computers or laptops that has one….
Apple devices
if you get the gaming notebooks, usually the top end ones carry these.
I have it on a ASUS G751JY, TBT 2, from mini display 1.2
the advantage of Thunderbolt 3 having the same port plug as usb type c will popularize TBT3.
newer laptops will carry TBT on the Type C
I'm going to attach a NAS to it when I make my home network server using the laptop
I purchased this a couple weeks ago with the 20% off deal. The total price was $245.
The dock works great. Brought new life into a pretty old iMac for my parents. The iMac only has Thunderbolt 1, but this dock still worked great. Mainly got it to go from from USB 2 to USB 3.
fff… I just bought this one then so I don't miss out.
how does it handle the usb, by the way. I was going to do a similar thing (comment above about Intel) to enable USB 3.1 on my laptop artificially…
not with this dock obviously, but later on
Sorry mate missed your reply.
Looking at the Mac system report, under the USB heading it shows up as a normal USB 3.0 Bus.
For those that haven't bought, if you keep an eye on gumtree in the long term you should be able to score one for sub-$100, obviously second hand but never really found them to be very fault-prone devices anyway. I got my first one for $30 and second for $40. They do get snatched up quickly at those prices though. Condition may be average depending on your luck, but I hide mine in the back so it's not a deal-breaker.
I'm never fast enough. those things go like…. thunderbolts and lightning….
Haha, good way to describe. Just subscribe to search and select "immediately" and contact them as soon as they are listed. For 70%+ off its not a bad gamble!
hopefully shit gets cheaper with TBT3. haven't been able to take advantage of the tech before
How many screens can you run of this? 3?
depends on your configured bios settings, and also your video card,
intel will let you do 3 independent displays for most of their latest stuff…
on notebooks, gpus are limited to the hdmi dsub and display out.
desktop systems will have more options
1, per unit… tbt2 is a glorified usb port
As much as i'd love to have one of these on hand, I can't understand why they're so expensive. It would be good if there were a thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3/usb-c adaptor, then we could make use of the dongles for the new macbooks.
