im not expert but i dont think xiaomi is in australia yet

      • +9

14 Defries Ave Zetland is a Meriton apartment block.

On their "Contact Us" page, they give an address in Rosebery:

        "87-103 Epsom Rd Roseberry"

Which is a self storage facility.

Seems dodgy to me. I wouldn't give them my card details.

Even if it is a legit retailer, who knows if it's a legit Xiaomi distributor?

And if it's a legit retailer, I highly doubt that they've paid to have these appliances compliance tested. ESPECIALLY this: https://xiaomiaustralia.com.au/collections/custom-collection…

It's probably illegal for them to sell these here.

        • +1

Should be reported to appropriate authority if it's illegal

      • +1

I would not buy from them:

      • not official, just a retailer that don't even know if its authorised.

        • -3

Being an unofficial/unauthorised seller doesn't mean they won't send you your goods. There are plenty of stores that sell grey market products, e.g. Kogan, ShoppingSquare, etc.

It looks like they only accept payment via PayPal, so the risk looks low, if there's any risk at all.

        • +1

@eug: did i say they wont send you your goods? where u came up with that idea?!

        • +4

They are claiming to be the "Millet Australian official website" and the about page is all about Millet China. This is clearly deceptive and enough warning bells for me.

        • @samelight: Sorry, was referring to the posts above yours.

        • +2

@OZB Al: they ar lying, i would't trust them too, not that they "won't send you your goods" but maybe a 2nd or defective, replica made out of some toxic materials…who knows.
no warranty thats for sure, the only protection u got is 90days from paypal.

        • -4

@eug: did the post above mine said something about "they wont send you your goods?", how come u can c something i don't? maybe i need to change my browser…

        • @OZB Al: Xiaomi translates to "Millet" when you use the translate feature on Google Chrome.

        • -3

@eug: and btw, when you try to buy any cookware that contains polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), "they wont send you your goods" is the least u need to worry about! coz a defective product will kill ur entire family.

        • @mubd1234: ya whats ur point?

        • @samelight: Was referring to OZB AI's comment above yours.

        • @samelight:

          how come u can c something i don't?

Read the posts carefully. What do they imply?

and btw, when you try to buy any cookware that contains polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), "they wont send you your goods" is the least u need to worry about! coz a defective product will kill ur entire family.

Are you now saying that this seller might sell you a defective product that will kill your family?

        • -3

          @eug:

Read the posts carefully. What do they imply?

all i can c is "not an official or authorised seller", not a word or imply about seller won't send, plz tell me more specifically.

Are you now saying that this seller might sell you a defective product that will kill your family?

and wheres the (PTFE) parts of "me saying" ?? not all types of "defective" could kill you but the (PTFE) one will.
dude, u need an eyes check…

I would suggest more coherent responses if you're actually serious about this discussion.

          Once again more specific.

u wont get any "coherent responses" if u start bs first,
u refused to point out which "posts" implied "seller won't send", this implied u ar not making a serious discussion.

        • @samelight:

          Once again more specific.

You really don't see the posts questioning the legitimacy of the site? Calling the site dodgy? Saying they would not buy from that site? What do you think the implication is? Or do you genuinely not understand what the implied message is?

        • @eug:

questioning the legitimacy of the site

whether is really an official site as it claimed! thats why ppl reply "i dont think xiaomi is in australia yet" instead of "seller won't send"!! thats why ppl reply "Even if it is a legit retailer, who knows if it's a legit Xiaomi distributor" instead of "seller won't send"!!

Calling the site dodgy? Saying they would not buy from that site?

the full sentences is "Seems dodgy to me. I wouldn't give them my card details."
dodgy and wouldn't give them my card details, not dodgy and suspect that seller won't send!

What do you think the implication is? Or do you genuinely not understand what the implied message is?

i do understand what implication is, i just don't know why you pick out someone else words in a full sentence, creat a new implication by twist those words to fit ur needs…

        • @samelight:

the full sentences is "Seems dodgy to me. I wouldn't give them my card details."
dodgy and wouldn't give them my card details, not dodgy and suspect that seller won't send!

If you say a seller looks dodgy and you won't give your card details to them … why? What is that implying?

i do understand what implication is, i just don't know why you pick out someone else words in a full sentence, creat a new implication by twist those words to fit ur needs…

To me, it doesn't look like you get the implied meanings. You wouldn't give your credit card number to a retailer because ….. ?

What I also don't get is why you're so overly defensive over this, to the point of being emotional. What is your point exactly?

        • +1

          @eug:

If you say a seller looks dodgy and you won't give your card details to them … why? What is that implying?

hes worry about his card detail will get stolen, u don't know what is that implying? ar u stupid or what?

To me, it doesn't look like you get the implied meanings. You wouldn't give your credit card number to a retailer because ….. ?

once again hes worry about his card detail will get stolen, not "seller won't send"! u got a mental illness or what?

What I also don't get is why you're so overly defensive over this. What is your point exactly?

if u dont keep bs like this then i wont keep asking u qustions, u ar the one overly defensive with ur bs, u @me first and u ask me whats my point now? u came to me first remember?!

        • @samelight:

Calm down, relax, you're being all angry and worked up over a forum post. No need to get your knickers in a twist.

There's no need to start with the childish, immature insults either. I'm sure you're not a little kid any more. Hopefully.

u @me first and u ask me whats my point now? u came to me first remember?!

Clearly you didn't read the post where I said it had nothing to do with your reply - you're getting all angry and worked up when the original message wasn't even meant for you.

Actually no, you did read that post because you responded to it.
But evidently you did not get the implied meanings of the previous messages.

hes worry about his card detail will get stolen, u don't know what is that implying? ar u stupid or what?

So you think he means the website will steal his credit card details and still send him the rice cooker - even though the site only accepts credit card payments through PayPal and will therefore never see any credit card details?

once again hes worry about his card detail will get stolen, not "seller won't send"! u got a mental illness or what?

So once again, you're saying because the store's address is a storage facility which makes it look dodgy (even though it's common for an online business not to have a shopfront), the website will steal his credit card details and still send him the rice cooker?

I'd say they're in breach of Intellectual Property laws as Xiaomi have international and Australian trademarks:

This is not an Official Xiaomi distributor

  • Looks very shady. "Australian" yet its not even in english.

    • -2

Looks like they're targeting the Chinese market. "Australian" doesn't mean it has to be in English. It really just depends on the target market.

      • +2

I dont think the majority of Australians speak Chinese.

        • +5

          Not yet LOL

        • -1

but the majority of Australians that eat rice this way ar Chinese.

        • I dont think the majority of Australians speak Chinese.

I don't think that site is aimed at the majority of Australians.

  • +1

Hmmm i have to drive down this street to get to Bunnings at Alexandria i will stop and look if its legit.

  • Seriously, you could fit out your entire house in Xiaomi products

  • +1

I would say this has the potential to be more legit than the Oneplus "Australian" soft entry.
At least this bloke will have to collect GST.

    • +4

"This guy" can not legally sell this item in Australia.
It has no compliance for sale IN Australia.

      • It's possible it's been complied, it costs about $1000 for NSW and anybody can do it, but yeah unlikely.

  • +3

    Has RoboGuy moved house?

    ;)

  • hmm registered for GST.. to avoid withholding tax? wonder if they remit to the ATO?

  • is that the IH model or the Electric model? Electric model was supposed to be the lower price at around 140 while the IH is around 300

    • the URL says it's IH.

      https://xiaomiaustralia.com.au/products/ih

though, I wouldn't buy as the site is a bit dodgy.

    • The base model is IH — induction. The higher end model is 'IHP' — induction + pressure. I bought the IHP version for ~$260 delivered earlier in the year.

      • where did you buy that IHP version?

      • What do you think of it so far? We are in the market for a pressure IH rice cooker, and have been wondering about Korean imports. But the Xiaomi looks even cheaper.

  • +2

I don't think it's even legal for an Australian business to sell these here; they're 220V rather than 230V as used in Australia. Of course, the cooker will still work fine (even if not certified to Australian standards) and you're free to import one yourselves.

    • It could be a typo. It is common knowledge China has 220v. But many marked 220~240v. Dont see that's a problem.

  • Common sense, the real Xiao will not use xiaomi Australia. Com. Au
    Most likely xiaomi. Com. Au

  • Makes you wonder how these domains are allowed?
I thought Australia was fairly strict with who they gave .com.au domains to?

    • The only requirement is an abn.

    • just have to be an australian citizen and sign up for 2y+

    • Not even a little bit these days but from posts above it looks like they've registered Xiaomi Australia as a business name so that would (profanity) all the boxes anyway

      • +1

Ahh I see - for some reason I was of the impression that domains were scrutinised etc.
        I guess not! :(

        • Back in the early days they were, not so much now.

  • Already reported to xiaomi official, don't buy this site, too many questions.

  • -2

I'm just not sure what people are so up in arms about.

This company imports and distributes even if not official and everyone gets all " it's not legal" but will import them themselves with no qualms about legality etc.

    Sometimes Ozbargainers are just weird

    • I take it that you havent met Roboguy yet?

      • So is this that person though?

    • +1

There are people selling Xiaomi mibox in Australia also ….. There is a market for grey imports as they get cheaper freight and local stock for people who don't want to wait ……

    • I'm just not sure what people are so up in arms about.

I'm not sure either. Unless there's evidence that they're out to scam people, I don't see much reason to defame them.

It's safer to buy from a locally-registered company regardless of whether or not they're grey importers because if something does go wrong, there's someone you can go after. Good luck doing that for something purchased directly from overseas.

    • Or they know import regulations are different depending on whether it's personal or commercial…

  • +3

Does not look legit. I am wondering if this is Roboscammer in disguise…

  • If everybody didn't feel this is legitimate please feel free to delete this post.

I just saw it from ads :p
