"smart" rice cooker. Until it learns how to fill itself with rice, it ain't smart. Similar to that Nespresso coffee machine, which still requires Aeroccino. "Smart" appliances I find to be a useless gimmick. You still have to be there.

It seems the trend to call the current technology the next. When coffee machines finally fill themselves they will be called AI Coffee Machines, and when they start thinking for themselves we will call them Coffee God Machines.

    • you still have to be there to drink your coffee or eat your rice any way…
are you expecting a smart device brew coffee and email/teleport to your?

you still have to be there to drink your coffee

No you don't. You can drink/eat it anywhere you like. Collecting it is one thing, making it is another.

The point is, if it's smart it needs to be able to make the coffee without you needing to be part of the making process. As it stands, you still have to mix the coffee with the milk. And you have to set it up before hand. Are you really going to leave milk out of the fridge overnight? Also, the Nespresso machine start the milk frother, even if you set it up first. So you still need to be there and part of the brewing process. In other words, useless.

It's like an eject button on your remote.

I can't think of a scenario where I would want to clean the rice, put it into the pot, put water in, put it into the cooker, and then walk away and turn it on by remote. Either I'll start cooking while I'm already there, and let it keep it heated until I'm ready to eat it. Or I just don't set it up, until I actually want to cook it. Either way, there is no saving of effort or time as a result of the smart app. You still have to do every step like you would without it.

        • maybe you need a maid, a smart one

        • Here's a scenario you haven't thought of… I work with a Korean guy who claims the best approach for brown rice is to have it soak overnight and then have the machine scheduled to start cooking early morning so that it's ready when you need it for breakfast. So this would work well for that scenario.

    • Depends on how smart you are.

For me this is very smart.
But if you are Einstein you may not find it very smart.

  • That's a good deal.

So many aspects of this I don't understand. What are the 3000 rice modes? Is that different varieties of rice? Is electromagnetic cooking like induction? Why do they show other foods cooking like eggs and is that chicken? On my phone I can't zoom but I can't see rice there, can it be used as a cooking pot?

Also the reviews are ridiculous. Some use the same profile picture for different people, and my favourite review is as follows:

    Pros:
Easy to configure and use.. very good quality and design.
    Cons:
Easy to configure and use.. very good quality and design.

Otherwise a good deal though thanks.

    • I have the pressure version so can answer a few of your questions.

      • When selecting your rice cooking method you can select the rice type. The temperature curve should be altered based on the type of rice.
      • Induction heating is done by using electromagnetic induction, so yes they are the same.
      • The app has a few other cooking methods besides rice. There are recipes for cakes, stews, etc. They are mostly in Chinese still and I haven't tried them. The app did get an update a while back which made a lot more of the app in english. For cooking rice I haven't had any issues and I don't speak Chinese. For anyone buying one there is an english guide for set up and cleaning too which made things easier for myself.

We use our at least 3 times a week for over 5 months now and are very happy with it. Given the choice I'd buy it again.

      • Should i buy this non pressure version? What's the advantage of the pressure one?

        • I believe the benefits of the extra pressure is to increase the temperature. Besides cooking faster, xiaomi say rice tastes better when cooked at over 100 degrees. They used some university research to back this up I think.

I have had the non-pressure version as well and didn't notice much difference physically. The non-pressure version felt like the same bowl and has a few less parts to clean. I got sent the wrong version with my order so got this one first. I never cooked with it, I cleaned it ready to use but realised it was wrong before actually cooking. So I don't know the taste difference. I still have the non-pressure one too.

        • @Miyamoto:
I'm after a smart rice cooker for porridge when I wake in the morning and germinated brown rice to eat at night. I am wondering if the recipes include a setting for porridge (oats), and a low temperature setting to produce germinated brown rice?

  • Shame there's no deal on the pressure cooker variant of this.

Is there anything this company DOESN'T make?!

  • $136 for the rice cooker in this post, or

    • $14 for this
    • or maybe even $6 for this.

I'm wondering which is the "smart" choice?

    • -2

Don't waste your hard earned money on this model if you are serious about rice. As the high pressure version is much better.
Or if you don't care too much about quality of rice, you may better off buy any cheap/dumb rice cooker then.

Ppl actually get serious n passionate about cooking rice?

        • -1

What a concept, people being serious about food!

    • Suppose the answer may be " How much are you worth & how long do you want to live ".
      nasty aluminium bowl.
      never micowave food.

  • Hi OP,do you mind update this post with code MIRGB?

Any deals on the pressure cooker?

      • Could you pls send me a link for better checking?

  • I have been using the normal rice cooker from Xiaomi for the past 7 months, very happy with the quality of rice cooked. Apparently, they hired the Japanese guy who made the Panasonic Rice cooker to perfect the rice cooker. There are other functions that you can select as well - to make cake, yoghurt, etc.
No complaints and highly recommend this rice cooker.
