    No cashrewards for myer website

    • My mistake. Cheers. I'll amend that.

      ed: already edited.

  • Wow nice first post! Have been looking for one as a gift for a while

Is this lowest historic price on ozb?

  • Thanks!
Cheapest I've seen in Aus for a while. I've just ordered one:)

    • Dick Smith once had it for $99, not sure if it was the same model.

      • wow that's $40 massive gap, maybe it was another version as they cannot afford that much lost though lol

      • I got mine from the old Dick Smith (not black and gold Kogan) for 125 I'm pretty sure. It was a score that's for sure.

    • Yep. I bought our last two Kindle Paperwhites in 2014 for Aud$117.30. Happy to upgrade to higher DPI screen for this deal.

      • Are you putting your old ones on Gumtree? I would be interested.

        • +1

Gifting one to family, other will probably end up on eBay.

I've found that on eBay, if someone wants it, they just buy it and send me the money. I don't have to deal with a bunch of text messages from people offering 20% of listed price, or no-shows.

        • @t3chshopper: Thanks :)
I'm considering between a new and an old one.
Currently having a v2 Paperwhite, bought in Japan for around JPY 8000 - less than AUD100. This type of product is expensive here in Australia :(

  • Sigh, Done and bought one.

  • Out of stock!

    • It’s barely 7am :(

    • Check that you have your add blocker off for the Myer site. I had the same problem.

    • My bad, turning off your pc's adblocker or using your phone's browser will work!

  • +1

Bought one. Had to disable adblocker to get cart to work (said out of stock with it enabled)

    • +1

It's making an ajax call to data.coremetrics.com if you want to whitelist that domain for Myer. No other way around it unfortunately

I have a Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Generation which I got for a similar price a few years back. This is a great price. Mine shat itself around a year ago, battery no longer charges, device doesn't turn on (and on the off occasion if I leave it for a few months and plug the charger in and turn it on the next morning, it freezes within 10 seconds of turning on).

Contemplating whether to get this right now or buy a battery replacement kit from eBay for $30 to change the battery. I've already opened it up, not too difficult, just 95% sure it's a battery issue. If I was 100% sure it's the battery, and not a firmware issue + battery issue combination, then I'd have got the battery a long time ago.

This deal for the newer paperwhite is very tempting right now.

    • Have you contacted Amazon? My 3g keyboard screen died and they gave me a massive 10% off a new one (sarcasm) but I've heard of people have theirs replaced entirely

  • $159 now.

    • +2

Use the coupon supplied in the post to get it for $139.

      • Ooo thanks I didn’t see that. I’ll order one, been kinda wanting one for years.

      • Site is flaky with coupon code.

  • Thanks OP, got one.

Is this the same as the model from Target, because its listed as $99 on target site.

    https://www.target.com/p/amazon-kindle-paperwhite/-/A-514680…

    • Lol, that is US target mate, we are Aussie

    • this is OZbargain, NOT USBargain

  • Curious - in Amazon US there are several options for kindle - with/without ads, 3g/no 3g.

Is this the base model - wifi only WITH ads?

    • We can't buy the ad one in Australia; the advertisements target those in the US.

      • +1

Then this is arguably cheaper than buying in the US.

  • Whats that $54 case like that meyer have listed? Better off getting a cheaper case from Ebay?

  • Does anyone know which year this model was released?

    • +2

They claim a 300 PPI display, so it's at least the current (3rd gen) version.

      • It’s not the super deluxe version that they sell for a lot more money, so it’s not the top of the line kindle technically.

        • That's right. This is the Kindle Paperwhite, not the Voyage or Oasis. However, this has the same 300ppi screen resolution as those two other more expensive devices.

  • Have not used it in the past. Can anyone advise if we can copy PDF files to this device and read? or it is only for kindle books purchased from amazon?

    • +4

yes. use Calibre to manage them.
      https://calibre-ebook.com/

      • Thanks. That looks like a 3rd party software. Hope is safe. I will go for the kindle then. It hurts in eyes when reading long on mobile or tablet.
Are the colour kindle with internet browsing capability worth spending extra?

        • +1

the coloured Kindle is a tablet, so get a Paperwhite for reading and use your phone/tablet for internet browsing (though you can use kindle for web browsing as well as it has built in browser but they're in black & white)

        • @r0xz: Thanks. That makes sense.

        • +3

Calibre is very well trusted, it’s a staple for kindle owners for a long time now.

        • @AustriaBargain: Tonyusq commented down that kindle is not that great in reading pdfs :(
Hope I didn't do a mistake in buying this.

        • I won't be using mine for PDFs as I do have a loverly iPad already, but it looks serviceable at least https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjWruBlHqWs the pinch and zoom seems natural.

    • +2

Yes to PDF. I installed Calibre on my laptop and it converts files very easily so I tend to just get ebooks in whatever form and run it through there if needed. It also helps woth moving books onto Kindle and sort the metadata and stuff. The Kindle usually uses mobi files I think.

    • +1

if you have sent up sent to email option on amazon, you can also email to you kindle and it will convert pdf.

      support formats:

      Microsoft Word (.DOC, .DOCX)
      HTML (.HTML, .HTM)
      RTF (.RTF)
      JPEG (.JPEG, .JPG)
      Kindle Format (.MOBI, .AZW)
      GIF (.GIF)
      PNG (.PNG)
      BMP (.BMP)
      PDF (.PDF)

      https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/email

      • We wont need additional software if Kindle can handle PDF. Thanks a lot for sharing this.

  • +1

    I miss Dick Smith.

  • Thanks OP picked one up. Old samsung tablet is not so good on the battery these days.

  • Thanks, bought one

  • Anybody knows whether David Jones can do price match on this ?

  • +3

As a RACQ member, I also used RACQ rewards to get 6% off a $139 myer gift card. It brought it down to $130.66.

    • Damn, I missed this.

  • Audible.com.au

  • Hello, does Audible.com.au work on Kindle? Like can you read and listen at the same time?

    • No. These have no audio functionality.

  • Thanks. Bought two for my kids.

  • Ordered, thanks!!

  • Fathers day gift sorted! :)

  • +1

For those interested in reading PDF, I highly recommend Kobo Aura One, also on sale, plus Koreader software installed. I am using it now, very powerful, large screen, reflow PDF, and exporting highlights directly to Evernote. Kindle is just not for PDF.

    • Could you please post a link of the Kobo on sale. Just wanted to make sure I am looking at the same model as the one suggested by you :)

I bought from eBay last time with 20% off, good price for an 8 inch e-reader,same as iPad mini.

        • Is there any other options for big screen (8" or more)? I have a Paperwhite, and it's only good for reading novels, not good for reading tech books

        • Thanks mate.

        • @Averell:
Sony Digital Paper 13 inch, about 900. Many small brands ones with Android systems, 8,. 9.7inch etc.

        • @Tonyusq: one more question. At which store did you buy the AuraOne? And how is the warranty then?

        • @Averell

          Myer eBay au stock

        • @Tonyusq: my Aura One just arrived via post, from Myer :-) thanks.
BTW, could you please help tell how you usually send files to your Kobo? With Kindle I usually send via email to [email protected]. But it seems that is not supported by Kobo.

        • @Averell: use getpocket

        • @Tonyusq: so you'll need to exit Koreader, enter Nickel, sync with Getpocket, then reboot to get back to Koreader?

Thanks (and sorry for noob question)

        • Yes. It is mainly for PDF. You can sync highlights directly to Evernote, which I love most.

But even with getpocket, you can't even highlight.

Read the comments above from users. They suggested: Calibre

      • No it doesn't work well.

        • :(
O man, I bought the item now and will mainly use if to PDF readings…

        • +1

When you get kindle, don't update, jailbreak first and install Koreader, it would work much better than other ways in reading PDF.

  • Thanks OP,going to buy one. Hopefully it will get me back to reading :)

  • Thanks OP. Got one. My old Kindle touch was a gift from my girlfriend (now my wife) but it died a few weeks ago due to the long service. I was attempted to get an oasis but it's too expensive. Paperwhite is a perfect replacement.

  • Whats positives/negatives with Black v White Kindle ….. sorry for my ignorance ….purchasing for partner !
    Thanks.

    • Good vs evil

  • +1

Thank you! I was just tossing up whether to buy this Kindle or the next model up which costs $300). Lo and behold I come on Ozbargain and find exactly what I'm looking for, and being able to save $40 on this one sealed the deal!

  • BTW people, get on quick, because the black is now reporting as sold out and the white is reporting as limited stock (and that is with AdBlocker disabled)

  • +1

I have a kindle that I bought full price YEARS ago. I still maintain that it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The sheer amount of use and build quality of these things is just insane. Can't recommend any higher.

  • Is the material on the white colored version prone to fingermarks/stains?

  • +1

Does anyone have the Anniversary code email that they could please share via pm? The codes don't work in-store but the email with a barcode will. Thanks!

    • Just show them the final price in your cart with the code applied

      • Yeah they wont accept it. Tried twice now. They need a physical barcode to scan which I imagine is generic.

  • Thanks, lovely deal, I've been holding back on buying these but the extra discount just tipped the scale over!
