Gun deals seem to trigger people. Let's see more of them please.

  • +6

ITT: lots of idiots who think that they are experts on gun control because they know that guns are an easy way to kill someone,so they want to make them magically disappear off the face of the earth, but really they know nothing about the actual issue.

    • +2

but really they know nothing about the actual issue.

Fortunately we have you, The Land of Smeg, oh He The Truly Enlightened One, the only one amongst us peasants who knows the "actual issue", and who can tell us how gun proliferation will solve the "actual issue".

      • +8

Well for starters, you can re-focus your efforts on those who obtain weapons illegally or seek to cause harm to others, rather than those who seek to obtain weapons legally within the checks and balances that the law provides, to use for legal peaceful purposes that has absolutely nothing to do with killing people.

PS: Thank you for giving me the recognition that I deserve

320+ comments- This thread is a blast!

  • What's the best thing to shoot with these?

I don't understand how it is not breaking the rules by posting firearms sale when its not ok to post Adult entertainment or Tobacco deals. Contradictions..

    According to http://www.legislation.act.gov.au/a/1996-74/current/pdf/1996…

    231 Advertising sale of firearms
A person must not cause an advertisement for the sale of a firearm
or firearm part to be published unless—
    (a) the person is a licensed firearms dealer; or
    (b) the proposed sale is to be arranged by or through a licensed
    firearms dealer.
    Maximum penalty: 50 penalty units.

Op isn't associated with the dealer so he isn't arranging anything..he is just advertising it. Which am sure is Illegal.

    • +6

its perfectly legal since its through a licensed firearms dealer.

    • +3

      (b) the proposed sale is to be arranged by or through a licensed
      firearms dealer.

Kind of answers your own question, dunnit?

And the law you are citing is more about private sale of firearms and where you can advertise them…

  • -8

Not appropriate for this website. Very disappointed with admin not to do anything. What's next? Sale of adult toys or gambling deals?

    • +6

      not valid neg though.
      not sure if srs

    • +1

Watch out for that slippery slope!

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope

    • Not appropriate for this website. Very disappointed with admin not to do anything. What's next? Sale of adult toys or gambling deals?

I'm pretty sure I saw some categories that they were testing appear before and one of them was test_children and another was test_organs.

    • Adult toy seals deserve a guernsey… I know Femplay offer free postage, but there's gotta be more out there…

Really enjoying comments here, thanks Ozbargain!

So many people still crying over this deal

    The wailing continues

    Bet they prefer vibrators

    • Did you think of that all by yourself? Gun strokers…humourless lot arent you.

    • oh wow a sex toy joke

gun nuts across the globe always have to return to some kindergarten joke about dildos or butthurt or panties

      like sexually repressed republicans/priests ;)

  • -4

Dear moderators, I am quite disgusted by the shot gun deal advertised on this website.

You should know that you are in tecnical breach of advertising fire alarm law which requires only licence owners the right to advertise.

I'll would appreciate if you removed the link from the website.

    • +6

Please refer to section (b) below, the dealer in question is CLEAVER HOLDINGS (QLD) PTY. LTD Dealers Licence No: 50000073

I'm not sure why this would "disgust" you at all. The only people who can take advantage of this deal are people licensed to do so.

As you can now appreciate your statement is false and I would appreciate it if you removed it from the website.

It is not about whether this posting complies with law or not. This is about being sensitive to the community. Imagine if someone who has lost their love ones through gun-related violence/mass shooting, and come across this deal on front page of OZB.

The moderators are being ridiculous now. Despite so many reports, this posting is still up and no formal response whatsoever yet

        • +12

There are more people who lose loved ones due to cars or alcohol, or alcohol and cars.

Should we now ban car and alcohol related deals to be sensitive to those people?

How about people who lost relatives, who were killed by a truck? We should all neg this deal too https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318920
Or people who lost relatives to frying pan/gun/whatever related violence. Lets neg this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318921
Oh gosh, I knew a girl who used a dodgy USB cable and got electrocuted while charging her phone and using it at the same time. More negs to this because muh feels https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318911

          And so on…

        • +4

unfortunately there are a lot of things advertised here that are offensive. Take alcohol, it has done more damage to society, families and individuals than guns, yet it is still advertised here.

The whole two posts about guns is just a shit stir. 177 upvotes and I bet they would be lucky to make one deal. ~95% of the population (don't quote me there) cannot use this 'deal' so it is just the same old boring debate being replayed over and over.

Everyone knows that strict gun laws have prevented deaths, people just like to rant.

        • +10

this post is ridiculous. Do you often get offended on someone else's behalf? Far more likey to be affected by alcohol fueled violence or a car crash then ever being the victim of gun violence. For sensitive sake do we ban all alcohol and car deals. Just imagine if someone has lost a loved one from a plane crash sees a airfare sale on here. Where do we stop?

        • You can't be serious??

        • -1

          @Hayesy22:

          this post is ridiculous

Well you started it ha ha

    • They wouldn't take this down, look at the amount of clicks it has. That's how they make money

  • -3

Ozbargain doesn't hold the licence and therefore can't advertise it.

    • +4

Is the person who posted the deal buying it and on selling it to you without a dealers license? No.
Is the proposed sale to be arranged through a licensed firearms dealer? Yes.

Good news, this is completely within laws and regulations :)

      • -1

I got to disagree with with you, the rules are tighter on fire arm advertise. Time will tell if one of us is right.

      • -1

In all honesty, why is this good news? Are you going to buy one? Actually I doubt anyone is!!

        • +1

I already own a 12g shotgun so no, but I have referred the deal to a friend who has been waiting for a good price. He has placed his order and applied for his permit to acquire.

    • -2

https://enoughgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=593 shows that ozbargain may be in breach of the law in certian states and territories. NT for example. Oh dear.

      • +1

Dont Stress its perfectly legal since its through a licensed firearms dealer.

  • -7

Beware these guys have terrible customer service. Nice to you until they take your money then its all downhill from there.

    • +1

what did you buy from them and what was wrong with your purchase?

      • +1

going by his wild claims in the other firearm related deal, he bought some shells that almost exploded in the packet then a empty shell exploded again causing injury to his friend. No doubt one of the busiest gun shops will have instances of poor customer service but this guy is FOS.

  • Thanks OP
Could we have more deals like this?
There are lots of people now looking for this stuff, reports say.

  • -2

Deal is in poor taste. I can't think of many genuine uses for a shotgun that aren't "questionable". As far as I'm aware, owning one for self-defence is illegal in Australia. Owning one for shooting (hunting) is legal, but this activity is controversial and appeals to a very limited proportion of the population.

    • +4

A good proportion of food produced in Australia would have a gun in the chain, you just don't know it. A winery next to me shoots wallabies to protect grapes. It would be a brave(silly) person to think they do not support guns (or their products) in any way.

    • +4

Dont forget many people use them for sport. Have you never seen the trap shooting in Olympics?

  • I checked these out a while ago, they're absolute garbage. The lever mech is fragile, but never seems to jam. Other lever shotguns have much nicer mechs, but occasionally jam.

  • Australia was to take this to a vote, should guns be band, I suspect it would be the firearm supports that would loss out, this would be devastating to the farming community, millennials just don't have the same view on this subject, that Australians need guns.

    • At the end of the day do you need a firearm to farm avocados?

      • +2

I'd think you would, mostly for pest control.

Don't forget that in many places as a land owner it is legally mandated that you perform pest destruction.

    • +1

It's because such a large percentage of the population live in the cities, and have never had much experience in rural areas.

    • +4

      should guns be band

      Guns n' Roses?

      • lol, Give me some slack, my main and only spoken language is English.

        • +2

We should ban rain, November Rain. That kills people.

        • @Jake Elwood: Jake Elwood, I was half way through writing a comment and its only dawned on me what you did, I am not a smart man.

          Have my upvote :)

Jon Bon Jovi? Especially his Young Guns song.

        • @spriggan43: My wife years after the event asked me why we didn't have this song at our wedding.

  • +6

All these snowflakes in the comment section.

    • +2

I know right the firearm supports are getting upset, you can see it in the desperate comments, say a terrible thing about a gun and the firearm supports supposably all firearm become enlighten and start vomiting out stats and stories about how guns saved the day, please to all non-firearm supporters be careful what we say here, because you know, the firearm supporters they have guns 😐

  • +8

Australian's love to give the impression to people outsiders (whether on the internet through places like Reddit or when travelling) that they we are a laid back "she'll be right, mate" anti-authority society but posts like these are evidence to the contrary. Australian's absolutely love to tell others how to live through utterly ridiculous laws that no other countries follow like compulsory bike helmet laws and voting or asking the politicians to ban anything they don't agree with.

John Hirst summed it up pretty well back in 2004: "The Australian people despise politicians, but the politicians can extract an amazing degree of obedience from the people, while the people themselves believe they are anti-authority." It is unfortunate that John Hirst has passed away

    • -1

its because politicians buy votes from mum and dads so will pander to them with ridiculous laws under the guise of protecting the kids

i hate helment laws, seatbelt laws, pool fence laws etc but those have no bearing or threat to me if someone broke those laws

i do support onerous gun laws because guns have less relevance in this day and age and the less guns around the better

self defence is retarded because we dont have stand your ground laws so you will be off to jail for shooting someone breaking in anyway and you cant reload a shotgun that fast if a 6 man apex gang [most used analogy on here by news limited readers] burst through your door

farmers can do the job within existing laws

    • It depends where you live I think…

      • +2

I think you hit the nail in the head.

The problem is all the city folk who have a complete disconnect with reality outside their controlled little urban environments.

They whinge that no one should hunt animals. Yet they are more than happy to eat meat off the supermarket shelf…

They whinge that no one at all should have guns, yet they have a total disconnect with the pest control issues that all farmers will at some point face in regional and rural Australia.

One thing I have noticed though so far in my limited travels, is if you head up to FNQ the people do seem much more like what Australians used to be (ie. the casual, laid back and friendly attitude)….

        • Yep coming from WA metro to NT is such a difference. If you screw up people don't blame others, it's your own fault. NT people are so laid back and government doesn't try control every little thing with no betterment. Heck we can even legally buy fireworks once a year.

A lot of people have guns up here, all you need is a crown lands permit as a reason to get a gun licence ($10 for 5 years at parks and wildlife).. Yet no gun crime up here.

Most crime here is opportunistic (car keys stolen etc)

For me, instead of going drinking, partying or sitting at home, I go hunting or target practice. Enjoy the sun and exercise.

What's wrong with bike helmet laws and compulsory voting?

  • -1
    • That was sublime. Tears in my eyes, thank you for posting.

  • Is this the record for the most bluepilled comments in an OzBargain deal?

  • +2

    you got to love ozbargain.

over 450 comments , 270 + likes and out of those , less than 1% are eligible for purchase.

    • You would be suprised how many people have an A/B licence. its easy to get

  • +1

I really want to buy this, I have no use for it, but it will probably piss some anti off, and IMO that's a good cause.

    • I support gun ownership, but anyone like yourself buying one just to "piss people off" has mental issues.

      • If you say so mate - good thing is I'm doing very well for a guy who apparently has mental issues, no murders, no rapes, own several firearms, so good comment you (profanity) (profanity).

        • Your response makes it obvious you have mental health issues.
You make it bad for regular gun owners.

  • Thanks! Bought the 28" gun, will be using it in the chopper to shoot pigs :D woot!!

  • +3

Before I got my license I used to believe all the tag-lines the media fed me:
    1) "More (legal licensed) guns equals more crime"
    2) "Only police and the army need guns"
    3) "All firearms are inherently evil"
    4) "Guns are only used to kill"
    5) "Saint John Howard saved Australia from becoming America"

Then through a mate I started getting into the sport, learn our laws by rote like you have to and I began to realised that all of this was complete garbage: that each of these deep-seated beliefs were actually untrue rubbished pedalled by the media.

    1) Australia now has more licensed legal firearms than before the 1996 come by back, but we still have historically low levels of gun crime. More licensed legal firearms DOES NOT equal more gun crime! Infact the numbers from the 2015 Greens-led parliamentary inquiry into gun crime found that 97% of firearms used in crime did not come from licensed owners.
    2) Shooting is a sport: 1/4 of our Olympic medals were won by Aussie women shooters. Farmers, hunters and sports shooters have a legitimate reason for owning firearms and can be trusted to use them safely.
    3) Licensed legal firearms aren't inherently evil: they are no more evil than a car or a set of golf clubs. It's people that do evil things.
    4) Licensed legal firearms don't kill people. Most of them don't even kill animals: they kill paper targets or knock down steel plates. The rest help farmers and the environment with controlling destructive feral species.
    5) Every argument has two sides. Australia was never even on a path to become America. John Howard is a politician. Politicians use historical events for their own political ends. John Howard's compulsory firearms acquisition created a "grey market" for illegal firearms which is where Man Monis got his illegal pumpaction. It's only licensing, training, background checks and registration that has "worked" in Australia. The rest of our gun laws are a prohibitive mess that do nothing for public safety.

    For more on this:
    https://www.facebook.com/TheHypocriticalAbusethatHuntersEndu…

Licensed legal Shooting sports are fun and safe and nothing like Hollywood.
Get involved. 1000s of gun clubs in Australia winning international events.

    • Howard did it for his own reputation, I reckon.

If he did it to prevent mass murder, we've seen that people can do that using cars (
      Bourke st).

I don't think anyone, even people who support a relaxing of some of the restrictions on firearms, would generally support concealed and open carry for self defence in public. But at least make the laws a bit more sane. How is it that I can own a semi automatic pistol, but I can't own a semi automatic rifle? Obviously you can only own pistols if you compete in competitive pistol shooting, but they could make similar allowances for competitive rifle competitions.

And don't get me started on the complete ban on airsoft guns. That makes no sense whatsoever. They could've put restrictions on ownership of airsoft guns, but instead they completely banned them (at least in Victoria).
