How did you go about renewing with the code before your subscription expired?

    • Also keen to know.

Perhaps need to cancel and resub with code?

  • +3

Good app. I used Turkish ios to subscribe when i used it. If i renew now it is 79.99 TRY for a year.

    • +1

      It’s great. That’s about $3.30aud

    • How about gaia gps? Does it work with Turkish ios method?
      Thanks

@ssd01 Just had a look. Says premium 1999.99. premium with outside+ 2999.99. no idea what is is but quite a lot. $126 for last one. Not sure if cheap or not.

        • +1

Had a quick look. Not much cheaper then going through the website. 7.49 usd month for outside. So probably 15-20 aud cheaper for a year. That's without any codes.

          • @Mikael: Thanks,, It seems more expensive than OZ pricing :)

            • @ssd01: Yeah, they probably caught up on the Turkish ios loophole. Like many other companies.

    Use VPN to Indonesia:
    IDR 112,000.00 for a year ~AUD10 for a year.

  • Yes it works, renewed (Australia)
    Thanks

It was 50% off a couple of days ago.

Fair warning for anyone using this app:
Alltrails unthinking is unthinking reliance on smartphone navigation is notorious for leading unsuspecting hikers off course and lost.

        Okay.

I am a regular Alltrails user and I can agree that the tracks aren't always perfect. I have been steered wrong a few times by Alltrails, but I've also been able to recover manually thanks to the maps on there.

It's a good reminder to be safe when hiking, especially when remote. Download your trail beforehand, check you're on track regularly, and tell someone where you're going.

Getting downvoted for warning users about the app’s critical well-known flaw. Gotta love you people.

Bring on the negs boys, Just try not to get lost out there 🙂

      • +5

Because your comment was pure hyperbolic. App is great, I used it for over 100 different trails and never got lost. Whilst not perfect, I have always found my route easily.

Great app, happy to support even at full price.

      • +1

Keep this mind and don’t rely on its suggested routes for navigation.

So what would you use instead?

Alltrails can get people lost. Anything can get people lost- it just happens that Alltrails is popular.

It's like saying "lots of people die in car accidents" because the entire population uses cars. It's like… NSS.

I've seen people try to navigate trails using… Google or Apple Maps, which doesn't even carry basic terrain or height information. Hell, I've used Google Maps for nav in some places.

Smartphones have just democratised hiking to the extent that any clueless and inexperienced walker can get well out of their depth. No app is a replacement for skill, experience, and attention to your surroundings. Blindly trusting a smartphone 100% is just plain risky.

Of all the nav apps, Alltrails is one of the better alternatives. If you want better, then you're going to be looking at things like downloading government-sourced LIDAR data into OpenStreetMaps or something else well beyond the ability of most casual hikers. But then you're creating your own routes and from scratch rather than using publicly sourced routes so there's no comparison anyway.

Never rely on just one navigation source - particularly a user generated one. Personally I wouldn’t rely 100% on GPS either, make sure you can get back safely anyway

To be fair to Nivlac, it is good to warn people not to trust an app. The walks are submitted from crowd sourced GPS. I’m not sure the less traveled, remote walks are fully checked or hiked through by AllTrails staff before publishing. Maybe they have someone verify them, maybe not. The remote walks in the high country could be inaccurate or dangerous so it’s important to take a paper map and compass. I would hope people only use it as a rough guide and do their own research and absolutely take a PLB.

      • I’m not sure the less traveled, remote walks are fully checked or hiked through by AllTrails staff before publishing. Maybe they have someone verify them, maybe not

It's fairly well known that trails are not checked. They're basically crowdsourced.

The best way to use alltrails is not to only use the course/trail map. If you look at the reviews of people who have recently uploaded, you can download their GPS and see a realistic time and any variations or detours that may be new.

Worked for me last month in tassie.

      • Good idea.

Just upgraded my annual subscription using Indonesian VPN and applying coupon THX4SERVICE for IDR 80,000 (50% discount). 28Degrees charged $7.70.

    • This one worked for me! I used Phillipines VPN ($8.44) cos my poo VPN service doesn't have Indonesia.

Turkey and India VPN were more expensive.

  • how do you even type in a promo code? i cant find an option

    • +1

At checkout you'll find a button to apply the code, click that and it'll reveal a field to enter the code. Bob's your uncle ;^)

  • +1

Code worked, first time subscriber, thanks OP.

  • +2

Code worked - VPN to Brazil brought it down to AUD 7 after discount

    • Legend. $24.95 BRL.

as a Mountain Biker and Gravel Rider, I find All Trails to be a bit of a poor cousin when compared to Ride with GPS for using routes created by other people - good deal though - almost tempted for the price
