5 cents of fuel and a free Slurpee!

  • +12

if you get 2 cents of fuel, do they round down???

    • +4

Rofl, they'd probably call the cops for public drunkenness :D

  • This was previous here in March, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22750 but I'm not sure if that promotion finished and started again. Any idea how long it's for?

    • if you read the link, it says…

"These special offers are currently available at your local 7-Eleven! (valid to 2 November 2010)"

      • Thanks jv. Not sure how I missed that.

    • The old promotion stopped months ago at my local 7-Eleven. I'm happy to see it running again.

  • +3

The bowsers delivered 2lt minimum, so @ the going rate of about $1.19lt you looking $2.40 min.

    • +2

Regardless of it saying that, im pretty sure you can fill up 50 cents, put it back, and go pay?

      • I never thought of it massari, but of course that makes sense haha it's not like the bowser if going to force two litres out. And when you go into pay they're not going to knock your 50c back..but maybe they'll charge you for 2 litres??

        • -2

they can't charge you for 2 litres if you didn't buy 2 litres, I'm sure the ACCC wouldn't have a bar of that…

          • +5

@jv: Naah, the bowsers clearly state a minimum delivery of 2L.
Think of it as a condition to your purchase contract, if you never agreed to it then you shouldn't have picked up the nozzle.

      • +4

I don't know if you're joking or not, but doing something like this is only exploiting the promotion and means that 7-11 will probably avoid repeating it in the future. You're really screwing yourself to save a dollar on a slurpee.

        • +4

Is anyone seriously that f—king time rich and money poor that they will go to such an effort to save on Slurpee? Oh wait…I've seen the internet, of course there are lots! ;)

  • -1

Anyone tried combinig these two offers?
Offer 1: Buy fuel at 7-Eleven and get a FREE small Slurpee.
Offer 2: Buy any Slurpee and get a Kit Kat Chunky 60g or Smith's 45g chips or Lifesavers for $1

    • +10

a free slurpee is not the same as buying a slurpee…

    • +1

My local 7/11 has a free Starburst lollypop with EVERY slurpee… but they don't sell petrol :(

  • Good deal, as their petrol is pretty cheap and very close in price to coles, safeways. Filling a car with say 50 litres, only gives you a $2 discount.

  • How about filling up $5 petrol and getting a free slurpee. Drive around to another 7/11 and do the same thing. Tow around 4 people for maximum effect lol

    • +7

Why bother? Just get your mates to empty out 20 cents of fuel onto the concrete, then go get their Slurpee. Cheaper this way.

      • +6

        lol. that sounds really safe.

        • +6

yeh you're right. It's probably better to burn off any left over fuel

          • +7

@WaywardOne: Don't try this at home. Wait a second it's not at home. GREAT.

      • +2

actually, do this, then go outside and celebrate by lighting up a fag.
        No pun intended.

  • No gas station at any cdb 7-11, so can i bring in my receipt and get the slurpee?

    • I guess there's no harm in asking, as long as you're prepared to look like a fool in front of anyone else in the store.

  • lol has anyone tried this? i reckon even for ozbargain, thats pretty right if you did this…

  • -4

7/11 fuel is a rip off. it was like $1.49 a litre last week on $1 day.

    • +2

I drive past a 7-Eleven each morning that constantly has the cheapest price around.

  • -3

Lucky you then. Thought I still wouldn't trust the fuel from 7/11, its probably full of ethanol and watered down.

  • -1

Yeah I do wonder about the quality of 7/11 fuel.. I mean an almost free slurpee is great, but a dodgy bit of fuel could cause bigger problems for your car..

    • Then go to one of the big Safeway/Woolworths outlets that has a 7-Eleven bolted to the building. Your petrol should be pristine there.

      • -1

Woolworths petrol is probably worse than 7-11's.
Only fuel I trust is Shell and BP.
V-Power for the win… Or for the clean engines, as it were.

        • Clean engines… That's funny :)

          • @klevster: Well I meant the insides of the engines, but yeah…
            goes to sleep

        • -1

I think V-power is a bit of a marketing scheme.

    • +3

      7/11=Mobil
      Safeway=Caltex

Exxon/Mobil, Shell, BP, and Chevron (Caltex) are pretty much the dominant suppliers of fuel in the world. Fuel is pretty much all the same (at the same octanes) and is scrutinised to high standards. Can't say the same about Slurpees.

I have read multiple times around the place that Woolies fuel is crap because it is imported alread refined from Singapore whereas everything else is refined here in Aus. Don't know the accuracy of that however! I've also read many stories about peoples cars running like crap after filling up with Woolies fuel. Coincidence? Dunno!

        • A joint study by ABCNews and Maryland State Comptroller's Office (USA) tested different gasoline (aka petrol) in the lab.

A joint study by ABC News and the Maryland State Comptroller's Office examined the difference between name brand and generic gas. Chemists at the Maryland Fuel Testing Laboratory conducted a battery of tests: They verified that the gas was formulated correctly for the season, checked for contaminants like excessive sediments or diesel accidentally mixed with the gas, and they ran the gas through an elaborate engine to ensure that it was all the same 87 octane level.

Here's some good news for consumer: Regular and discount gas are basically similar.

"By and large, it's one and the same," said Bob Crawford of the Maryland Fuel Testing Lab. "You will find results will almost mirror each other. There are going to be slight variations, but gasoline is gasoline."

Crawford, who has been studying fuel for 36 years, uses whatever gas is the cheapest. Some cars require premium gas, but generally, regular is fine.

I'm not sure how people are feeling their cars are performing better between different kinds of petrol. There are so many factors involved in performance on the day including tire treads, tire pressure, outside temperature, condition of oil, weight inside the car, driving patterns, road conditions etc. etc. (Watch F1 racing for examples) Without running a dyno or similar tests with all things the same, it's a bit of placebo effect, IMO.

          • @neil: I have no delusions of grandeur when it comes to petrol, I simply know that the less ethanol you have in the petrol the more cleaner your injectors will be. An example of this is the previous owner of my car ran nothing but cheap fuel and the injectors were dirty as hell, I started it on premium and a couple tanks later they were much cleaner and the car was running much more smoothly.

  • -2

haha love how I get a 2- vote for informing people the fuel is crap.. classic.

    • +3

Get over the plus/minuses, and tell us which 7/11 you saw it at, so we can avoid it. I assume you are quoting the ULP price?

And if you haven't noticed yet, the "cheapest fuel day" has changed once again.

    • Well you did say "watered down" while speaking about petrol, which is stupid in itself.

  • I've been using 7/11's petrol for over a month now. (I found it to be by far the cheapest in my area, bonus!).

The petrol for me has been much better than the petrol I used to get from Coles/Woolworths previously, I can actually notice the difference and my fuel has been lasting longer (at least an extra 20-30kms per tank).

Anyways, today when i filled up i got my free slurpie with my petrol, and the small is actually a decently sized small. win

    • Yeah with electronically controlled air/fuel controllers you'll find the better the petrol the longer it'll last.
Shame I wasted so much money on my first car with its shitty old carby using premium :P

      • +1

You mean as in higher octane?
Simplest things to do to improve performance/mileage is to remove any extra unneeded weight in the car, make sure your tires are at correct pressure, don't idle the engine unecessarily (waiting outside a house for a friend etc) and biggest of all don't floor it at the lights, slow and steady wins the race. Sorry, I live near Lygon st. and see it all the time.

I read somewhere that it is common in Germany to turn off your car at lights, wondering if that's workable here. Idling engines tend to waste a bit of petrol but I'm worried my car won't start up again.

  • I didn't rip them off, I filled up with $5 worth of petrol but I could have filled it up with $1 worth.

  • How many 7-Eleven petrol stations are there? I've only seen the one on Georges River road near Croydon Park but that's it haha

  • This deal is good since I usually fill up at 7-Eleven anyway!

  • What's the problem with putting a few $ of fuel in your car. It's not like 7-11 is going to have fuel significantly more expensive than other places. It will probably be the same as other places, maybe slightly cheaper.
So your car requires fuel, right? And $5 is not over your weekly fuel budget?
Even if the fuel at 7-11 is dearer by 5c/L, if you're buying 4 litres, that's only 20c you've paid for the slurpee. But as i said, it's probably going to be similar to other petrol stations.

  • deal is awesome. im slowly filling up my tank $5 at a time!!! so many slurpies!! GREAT SUCCESS!!!

  • -1

i filled up with $1 today and the owner refused to give me a free slurpee saying i was abusing the system. who do i make a complaint to?

    • You didn't 'fill up', you put $1 worth of petrol in your car in order to try and scam a $2.50 drink from 7-Eleven. I'm glad the attendant refused your attempt. This offer is intended to bring in customers, not lose money by providing idiots with free slurpees. Complain to whoever is silly enough to listen to you.

  • I filled 30L at my local 7-Eleven and they gave me the free midget slurpee.
I think its smaller than small.

  • Promo is still very much on. Am waiting for slurpee with Gauruna or taurine and ill fill up 10 times in a day :)
