  • Anyone know which one is better?

I have the Sunbeam and pulls a decent shot, can't say what the Breville's like. Do you have a grinder already tho?

      • No grinder but from my limited research so far, having the in built grinder isn't such a good thing as it heats up the beans.

My dad has had a sunbeam [idk what model] that lasted us 5-6 years before spitting the dummy. We got the breville a few weeks ago, he really likes it, the built in grinder makes for better coffee apparently you just have to get the right setting for the beans.

Ditto. Very happy with my Sunbeam.

I've had the sunbeam one for years, its really good. I like the look of the built in grinder on the breville though. Otherwise both dual pump, same pressure etc.
The Sunbeam one often makes it down to $500 at places though, and the Breville could have been had for $547 in the last ebay sale (I've been keeping my eyes on these for my brother). But these are ok prices.

      • The BES870 isn’t a dual pump. I have had one for about two years and it has been working fantastically. I do wish the milk steam wand was a little more powerful as texturing milk does take a while. This isn’t really an issue when making two coffees, however, when entertaining it is a bit of a pain.

Edit: I have liked the breville so much that I am hoping the rumours of a product refresh will see a similar model (built in grinder) with a dual pump and more powerful steam wand. I would buy it instantly. The top of the line breville meets the requirements but it has a heap of features (auto tamp etc) that I don’t need and want.

I prefer Sunbeam espresso machines, and Breville grinders (Smart Grinder).

We've had this machines for about 3 years and gets used daily, nil issues. We are down 1 Smart Grinder in that time, but that was due to a volcanic rock hiding in with the coffee beans….

  • EM7000 is excellent and used to cost over $1000, it was highly rated even then.

It comes with a proper filter basket and a decently weighted tamper, so no extras to buy.

  • I have the sunbeam
    Its great
I had the smaller breville and was not impressed at all so swapped it

EM7000 is one of the best machines in that price range.

I had one for 3 years, grabbed for $399 in an ozbargain sale some years back.

Only just sold it recently to get a 920 dual boiler.

Saying that..the BES870 is the highest rated espresso machine on choice.com.au (just above the much more expensive 920)

    Sunbeam Café Series EM7000 78%
Breville The Dual Boiler BES920 81%
Breville The Barista Express BES870 82%

The usual choice caveat is that they dont always value the same things that you do.

    • Same, I got in on that ozbargain 3 years ago and it's one of my all time favorite ozbargains. Not to gloat, but I'm amazed a bargain price today is higher than when we got in.

have the EM7000 and the breville grinder, works a treat

Tip for anyone buying the EM7000 - at the back there's a gap above the removable water tank box. If you're not changing the water every day, stick some duct tape over it, otherwise bugs crawl in overnight.

Also when I bought this ~3yrs ago, Sunbeam gave a complimentary group barista class. Don't know if they still do but fantastic if they do.
