Steam Vaporiser and accessories to help the baby with a cold to sleep:

Online reviews indicate that Euky Bear along with Vicks are the better steam vaporisers on the market with Euky Bear being quieter than Vicks. The cheapest I've seen the Euky Bear Vaporiser elsewhere atm is $52+ so this is a nice saving. I am not sure of the purpose of the Vaporiser Cleaning Tablets - the instructions just say that the tables are not toxic and to use them every three to four times. I suspect it is to soften hard water.

Thinking of getting this, always wanted to teach my baby how to vape.

Just for anyone interested in buying it, please make sure to read the instructions :( It's a huge waste when it gets damaged because parent's are tugging on the lid rather than twisting it open, thereby breaking the tabs. It should not have a lot of resistance when you're trying to lift the lid.

    • you sound like you work at chemist warehouse and having to deal with silly warranty requests like these :D

  • In my quest for a good vaporiser/humidifier i bought one of these and was not impressed at all. Seems strange for something with hot water (generally to use in kids rooms) to not have an on/off button or any button to manage the flow. It said it has a safety night light and I envisioned a kids night light but it is actually just an orange spot on the machine lol there's a better one from able asthma but that one is a bit dearer..

But if you are interested in buying this you can price match it at toysrus for $40.50…

    • Agree about the on/off switch - that was a bit surprising. So far we haven't found the flow to be an issue.

We personally prefer the orange spot instead of a night light - it is hard enough to keep the room dark without having another light to deal with.

there's a better one from able asthma but that one is a bit dearer.

Are you referring to the $99 Able Ultrasonic Vaporiser / Air Purifier or the $69 VapourMist Humidifier? Neither came up in my research so it would be good to know your experiences.

      • its a humidifier putting cold air out.

I bought the humidifier and it's great except the stupid aroma dish that's meant to melt the essential oil but it doesn't. So I switched it for the vaporiser which is really good as a diffuser and "cleaning" the air. I spoke to the brand rep and she advised they are fixing the issue with the humidifier and a new model will be released any day now where u can add the essential oils to the water instead of the dish.

The thing I like with these machines is there's an on/off button, A min to max dial to control the mist volume and you can turn the night light on or off or choose a specific colour (which my son loves!).

The rep said both do diff things but if I had to choose one, I would wait for the new humidifier. My son also really likes the mist that comes out and cos it's a cool mist, I'm not scared of him burning himself if he touches it…

If you are using it for colds/coughs then go the humidifier but if you have asthma the brand rep suggested the vaporiser.

        Hope that helps!!! :)

        • Can you explain me how does a cold air helps colds/coughs when its already cold/winter here. I agree its good in summer but cold/coughs usually comes in winter.

        • @dreamzz: The suggestion is more around safety - a humidifier is much safer to use with kids than a Steam Vaporiser because of the lack of the heating element.

I'd want warm humid air for colds/coughs but presumably there would need to be another source of heat to really heat a room as a steam vaporiser would be a very inefficient/infective way to heat a room. Similarly, I wouldn't expect a humidifier to cool the room if there's already separate heater so presumably a humidifier should work just as well as vaporiser in terms of heat.

For me, the deciding factors are reviews/recommendations (more people seem to prefer Euky Bear or Vicks vaporisers over humidifiers for babies), vaporisers are less likely to grow mold/bacteria in the water because of the heat and I found a vaporiser at a good price. I'd also guess that vaporisers would be better at circulating the essential oils like eucalyptus in the air than humidifiers but I haven't seen any data one way or the other.

        • @dreamzz:
The mist keeps the air moist which helps with congestion (like how you breathe better in the shower when you have a cold). Apparently there's no difference if it's hot or cold mist because by the times it hits your airways, its the same temp anyways. We use to have a hot one which helped but the cold one seems to as well although could be different for different people?

        • @Dinjay:

I bought the euky bear one off a friend's recommendation but unfortunately it wasn't for me, i like being able to control the mist and as I still feed at night, I need the night light! :)

        • @KupoHo:

We use one of these colour & brightness remotely controllable LEDs as a night light and for night feeding - they're brilliant :)

  • Everyone, if you want to control how much vapour this puts out, use a digital mains timer switch. Set it to turn on at 8pm, 10pm, 12am, 2am, 4am and 6am, staying on for at least 15 minutes each time. Not only will this control the amount of vapour, with the right settings you'll only have to fill it with water once a week, and clean it monthly. You may have to fill the inhalant more often though. Set repeating alarms on your smart phone to remind you to fill it up.
