      There are many Chinese stores that buy large stock of Vitamins and Baby Formula and resell to Chinese people wanting to ship them overseas. The stores are usually purpose built for this service - selling and shipping overseas.

      Our vitamins and baby formula is huge in China, as the quality control over there is not good and people can't be sure of the quality of what they're buying. They might think they're taking supplements and there's nothing in it. Or dodgy baby formula which is even scarier.

      This bothers some people for some reason, because so many Aussies hate the Chinese. Nothing wrong with people wanting to send their family something they can't get at home. Makes sense to tap into this market.

      Having said that a max per customer limitation during sales might be a good idea.

        To be fair I don't think the original comment above was a racial thing. It was just referring to the fact that the sale will attract a lot of these resellers and therefore increase the queue/wait time. My local Chemist warehouse is always full and busy and unless I have time to queue I wouldn't go there - I imagine it will be even busier with this sale.

        @moocher: well, if you own the chemist , would you hate those shopping at your shop. Honestly , the vitamin reseller queue are much better than those central link queue.

        I'm part Chinese so nothing racial about it…I was pointing out the long waiting queue at the checkout with people whose appearance I'm familiar with, whose multiple baskets are overflowing with the pills..

  Medical opinion in general is sceptical on taking these extra vitamins and are only a complete waste of money

  Just eating a balanced diet is the way to a healthy life

    The issue is, what's 'balanced'? "Did I get enough Omega 3 this week?" "Did I get enough Vitamin D?"
    This is where supplementation is important and while not relying on these as a sole source of vitamins, to say they are a complete waste of money is not quite accurate IMO.

      The body can store vitamins and only becomes deficient after many months of not consuming the required vitamins! So if you didn't have enough omega 3 this week or vitamin D it's not going to need replacement but if you never consume omega 3 foods and rarely go in the sun then you can these/vitamin D supplements. So speak to your GP first or look up if you have symptoms of any vitamin or supplements deficiencies and no tiredness doesn't count as this is more likely to be lifestyle, sleep, stress, work life balance related.

    Some vitamins are hard to consume at optimal levels, for example I'd rather eat vitamin d than spend 30 mins+ outside in winter with arms etc exposed, more if you have darker skin. 30% of Australians have a deficiency. It's a cheap way to protect your bones and health.

    Overall I'd say look into what you might be deficient in and supplement or change diet. For many, changing diet can be quite hard and supplementation could be cheaper and easier.

    Agree most of the time total waste of money and any benefit patients feel are generally placebo effect. There may be small group of people who will actually benefit. For example those people who only eat the same food all the time. Iron and b12 supplements for vegetarian people. Vitamin D for those that have a lack of sunlight. Calcium for those who don't eat dairy. Otherwise waste of money.

  I went to CW today and it's not really half price. It's only half price on the RRP, but since CW prices are usually already lower than the RRP, the savings are less than 50% of CW's usual prices. The description can be made more accurate in this deal by putting “50% of the RRP”… But still some good savings.
