Sigh. Old enough to be able to afford it. Too old to be able to enjoy it.

      couldn't agree more!

pffft! i'm 40 and still play games all the time ;)

    • how old is too old to enjoy games? not being a smart arse, genuinely curious.

      • +6

hitting 30. Not too old. Just too busy. And easily bored

        • +1

When you get to 40 you are going to regret not using your 30s to play more games. When you are 40 you REALLY don't have time!

        • @serpserpserp: goodbye professional gaming dreams then

      • You are never to old to enjoy video games!

        • +1

Just get a bit more picky and play only the quality games like dishonored 2 and prey :)

  • +15

I plan on playing games til I die

    • +5

me and my wife were discussing this yesterday. typical 60+ year olds just do knitting, or gardening, or watch antiques roadshow all day, the boring life! my wife and I will be playing all kinds of PC games at that age. i will continue to talk shit to twelvies until i die.

I swear, that picture looked like a mobile phone. And it turns out that it's the front end of a PC tower case.

    • +8

I swear, similar comments like yours appear in every single post of this PC. I did it once like you.

      • Hah yeah it's an easy mistake.

      • hey guys, DAE think the deal thumbnail looks like a smartphone? #imsoweird

        • Yep the deal thumbnail picture looked like a new Dell smartphone. Thinking Dell was into the Smartphone business now. hah

is the GPU soldered on or replaceable?

    • +8

      Yes

    • +4

It's soldered onto the graphics card.

    • Surely a 1070 is all you'll ever need. By the time you need to replace it you'll want to throw the whole thing in the trash anyway.

I've been looking into this and the Alienware Aurora tower. For those who aren't aware this computer is essentially the same as the Alienware one (obviously without the bulky plastic flare, LED lighting and water cooling), but essentially inside it's the same as the air cooled Aurora. A similar spec'd Aurora comes out around $560 more. Same CPU, same graphics card, same RAM, same HDD's, similar case design. Sounds like a win. I just really want that 7700k … hmmm.

  • Anyone know what the Motherboard is for this XPS Desktop?

    Quite tempted!

    • This deal might not repeat for a while.

      Just checked:

      Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
      Product: 0VHXCD
      SerialNumber: .DBMFHJ2.CNPE10071O02J8
      Version: A00

      So its a generic motherboard.

  • Can this VR, with HTC Vive or better off custom building to keep cost down?

How does this compare with something like a upgraded version of this from MSY?

    http://www.msy.com.au/SYSTEMS/intelgaming1.pdf

    $1449 with 16gb ram, i7 7700, 240gb SSD, Asus 4GB graphics card and 1tb hdd

Honeatly, it depends how seriously you take gaming, or other high end graphics processing tasks (i.e. after effects, photoshop etc) in relation to the graphics card. The one you listed comes with the GTX 1050 ti 4GB worth about $250, whilst the XPS here comes with the GTX 1070 8GB worth around $700. So in comparison with the graphics card alone your getting and extra $450 worth for $300. And on top of that, the extra 1TB of hard drive space. It honestly all depends on what you plan on using it for, as well as how long you plan to use it for, with the 8GB on board graphics storage with the GTX 1070 futureproofed for quite a while longer than the 4GB on the 1050 ti, with 4GB which may only survive another year or two with the upgrade in graphics on new releases

Oh btw, in no way am I promoting this particular machine, I just like to see nice deals for decent computers when they pop up :)

      • Cheers for the reply, any other good offers around i have missed out on the 20% ebay thing.

I mainly use my computer for watching videos, office crap and have a bad habit of having 10 programs open at once. on the new one i want to have 3 screens though.

Have the PS4 and xbone for gaming

        • +1

For your case I wouldn't focus at all on the gpu, I would instead focus on the Ram capabilities and Hard drive format. It would also completely depend on your budget.
Whilst I wouldn't recommend iMacs for gaming, I am familiar with their software and how you describe you want to use it I would seriously consider this option, especially form this deal just posted. Whilst ideally in this day and age you would prefer to have upwards of 8gm of ram as a minimum, the Macs OS is the most stable and most comprehensive at organising and managing multiple tasks, a lot more so then with a windows pc. As long as you don't plan on gaming with it, as platforms like steam don't offer a lot of support for many games on the Mac OS, I would definitely consider it. :)

        • +1

Sorry also just saw you mention the 3 monitors. I would still suggest the mac as you can easily connect an external monitor, however I would personally stick to two screens running on the one system, as it is easier to manage, and also reduces response lag times (where the display responds slower then your actions such as your mouse taking slightly longer to respond) unless there is a specific need for the 3 monitors

        • there is some programs i use that i dont think would work on mac plus not a massive fan of their OS.

Would only work on 2 screens really the 3rd one would be on the wall which im planing to install a share ticker like widget.

  • I have the Alienware variant and it's a great tower for those who aren't interested in custom builds. Just don't look in the tower as it's yucky haha
