Very nice deal on the top router in its price range. 20% off with coupon + $20 EFTPOS Card from this deal brings it down to $168.

That list either hasn't been updated recently or just isn't followed. The cashback is advertised on the ebay listing itself, and asus have honoured cashbacks from other stores before
A bit hassles so I would stick with those pre-approved resellers…
grabbed one EA6900 half year ago at $99. By using AC-68U 's firmware, it is equal to one AC-68U:P
Cool, got a link on how to flash?
http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/asuswrt-merlin-…
I remember the basic steps are: flash DDWRT—> prepare the modified CFE, flash the CFE —> flash the Asus Merlin firmware. Just want to mention there is risk of bricking…
This doesn't seem to have MU-MIMO. Why does the lower-end AC58U, and the higher AC87U have it, but not this?
Its a pretty old router, released around the same time as mu-imo….but still a beast though (except for the vpn part)
Could you please let me know what the VPN issues are with this router?
Just slow… Like most routers integrated vpn functionality
Soooo… the 68 actually launched before 58?
Soooo…what do you think
seems like a better deal than cashback
i.e. mwave has this for $225 - 20 cashback = $205
vs
238 - 47.6 = $190.40
Looking for a new router to replace my airport extreme now that apple has discontinued it :(
Should I go with this Asus or the Netgear r7000? Looking to buy asap.
I recently bought the R7000 and installed the Tomato firmware. The range isn't great, but other than that, it's been amazing.
We've pretty much reached the peak of what these all-in-one routers can achieve as far as wireless coverage.
The R7000 is regarded as very good (same as the Asus linked here) and if the range still falls short than it's really time to consider a router + separate WAPs.
I have two access points as well but my D-Link 2890al range is almost twice as good as the R7000.
Just my opinion, but I'd steer clear of Netgear for as long as you willingly can or until they fix their service and warranty support (attitude).
It isn't until you have an issue (and I did), that netgear won't want to know you, and then they try and get you to purchase support, just so that they'll help you with your issues. BIG thumbs down from me
Just trying to spread the word and make people aware of what they're getting. Short of going to ACCC, I was lucky I still had a receipt and that the store was happy to process the claim for me through their supplier. Anyway, don't take my word for it though. Google netgear warranty claims and enjoy the reading.
I've had Netgear routers and they're ok, but now got this ASUS and it's much better. Great GUI and features.very good wifi range. One example was the netgear I had had a limit on how many static routes you could enter, ASUS is unlimited (this was needed for a vpn service for watching OS streaming TV services).
Cheers I decided to just buy this, and with the cash back it's also cheaper.
Would I be able to extend it using my AirPort Extreme with ease or would it require a bit of work since it's apple?
I reckon it should be no problem as it's just a normal wifi signal.
How does this compare to the RT-N66U?
Hi guys, I'm looking for a new router to improve my terrible TPG ADSL (currently using the one they give you). This is a bit above my price range, looking to keep it around the $100-$130 range, any recommendations? I have a small apartment, and needs to be NBN ready. Thanks
This one has no modem so wouldn't work for adsl or any nbn other than fttp.
I can't place any recommendations though sorry. I have fttp and I've only looked into routers personally.
Lovely unit. First one I haven't bothered with custom firmware on, because the stock features are just great.
Just a reminder that this is a router and not a modem. The DSL-AC68U is the same unit with an ADSL/VDSL modem.
I have the modem router version. Can I buy this to use as a range extender without complicated setup?
Yep, it seems pretty easy
http://www.microcenter.com/tech_center/article/8196/how_to_c…
Yes it got AP mode.
I did this for years until an issue appeared somewhere with either Apple producs or the Asus firmware.
So I purchased a Netgear R7000 as the repeater, installed the XVortex firmware http://xvtx.ru and the AC68 as the main router, since then, not a hickup.
Bought RT-AC68u for less than A$200 2 years ago from Wireless1. It is still at the same price after 24 months?
It's definitely worth the money.
Best router. Currently using with TPG NBN 100Mbps.
I currently have a Telstra (Technicolor) TG-799vac modem on NBN (70/20) with a Netgear R7000 running Asus-XWRT but it is a bit flaky.
Would this router be better with the Modem I have (in bridge mode), or should I go for the DSL-AC68U from these guys?
ThanksI'd go asus, very reliable routers. rt-16 still going strong on 100mb cable
thanks - just wondering if I should just get the Asus router, and use the technicolor in bridge mode, or spend a bit more for the DSLAC68U.
TL;DR - will the DSLAC68U sync faster/be more reliable than the Technicolor, or should I stick with bridging it?So I guess I will go with the RT-AC68U as the seller says the DSL-AC68U is not suitable for FTTN NBN.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-ASUS-Bundle-DSL-AC68U-AC1900-…?
I just wish this router was wall mountable
I have a few of these, love them, they are rock solid
Run all day on custom Merlins firmware.I have the DSL version, highly recommended product.
Wow this seller… after I bought it they dropped the price by $13
I'm currently running a Billion 7800NXL on TPG ADSL2. Finding performance is lagging lately, but also have a lot of devices connected (e.g. phones, tv, PS4, laptops, LIFX lights, Sonos speakers etc…). I've heard of bridging and such, do you think it would be worthwhile for me and would this be a good option? Or would I be better off with a new modem/router rather?
No NBN until at least mid next year also.
I just bridged this router to my billion 7800N and wifi performance is defintely way better.
The DSL version of this is also on special, but the chipset it's based on make it not very good if you are far from the exchange
I'm roughly 2km from the exchange. So you think the router and bridge might be the way to go?
According to to whirlpool anything less than 2.5km is AOK
https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2499850&…The way I see it you spend extra $30 on the DSL and you only need 1 box instead of 2. And if it doesn't work well with your line you can still use it in bridge mode with your old billion
@kogi: Thanks for your help!
Why not switch to Cable if available. Moved from ADSL myself 2 weeks ago and will never look back. Optus have some great deals going.I went for Telstra plan thinking only they do foxtel but I believe Optus offer Foxtel too.
@soyea: I'd love to, but unfortunately as I'm in a townhouse (6 of 6) it's not possible. They can only service the front townhouse which is frustrating. So I'll have to wait for the NBN to pop up I think.
Sydneytech is not listing on the Asus cash back
