The Amazon listing is light on details, so here they are.

    The 1167Mbps is 867Mbps @5GHz plus 300Mbps @2.4GHz.

Has only 2 RJ45 ethernet connectors on each unit, so 4 total, and they're all 10/100Mbps ethernet. If you use one to connect to the NBN and two to connect wired backhaul between the units, you have a total of 1 ethernet connector left for any wired ethernet connections.

You can use the two units without wired backhaul, but that eats into your 1167Mbps speeds. No 6GHz band on this router.

  • I have 1000/50 NBN and cabling is not an option as I live in a rental. Is this a good option for me? I play online games so latency is just as important as speed.

Terrible option as your 1 gig internet will be throttled due to its 100mbps LAN port.

    • +2

You'll get lag with WIFI anyway, from wireless interference, obstacles, etc. Cabling always the best for online gaming, especially 3/FPS or fighting games.
This mesh is only good for browsing, vid streaming. Go higher grade for faster speed, but it cost you more.

WiFi is never the best option if latency is your concern. However you'll get up to 867Mbps on 5GHz WiFi using this, out of your total of 1000, which is probably faster than most internet connections you'll see anyway.

        you'll get up to 867Mbps on 5GHz

You're forgetting that the wired connection to the NBN has a maximum speed of 100Mbps.

The only way to get faster than 100Mbps is between two Wifi devices connected to the router.

        • You're forgetting they can connect to the router with 5GHz.

          • @killergreely: Your answer makes no sense. Just how are they going to get their NBN connection into this router via the 5GHz WiFi? If they're using ethernet, the ethernet port is limited to 100Mbps.

And even if they do connect NBN to their router via 5GHz WiFi, two devices transferring data on an 867Mbps router means each gets 433Mbps.

Kinda slow but cheap… I should call her

  • I have these and they worked well when on slow nbn plan, what should I upgrade to for our new 1000/50 nbn plan coming soon?

    • Ax3000?

  • Hey guys, I have a tp link deco x-73 (1 pack) for a fttp 250/25 connection. Planning to upgrade to a 1000/50 as a new customer soon.
What deco unit is best to add to the existing x-73 so that there is a reliable connection everywhere in the house/garden ?
    Thanks in advance :)

Pretty good at $33 each. For 99% of cases you wont notice any diffrence unless you live in a house with more than 5 people and 100 devices. Is there a measurable difference, sure, but youd need test equipment to measure it, not people.

    • Well that depends on your internet speeds. If you're downloading video games or something heavy and have gigabit internet, it'll be way worse
