Torguard the VPN that has nothing to do with The Tor Project.

    • +8

The reference to "tor" in TorGuard relates to "torrents" and guarding one’s privacy when using bitorrent. We are not related in any way to the “tor” project however our company does support the project through donations.

    • The rep explained it, before he did though, I would have assumed it was probably just the method used - TOR standing for "The Onion Router" in the sense, encryption through many layers, passing through numerous hosts and layers of encryption through each to obfuscate the data being sent.

So theoretically anything labelled TOR doesn't have to be anything to do with the TOR Project for future reference.

Personally, I don't see the value in using a VPN over a TOR browsing session, exception being streaming media available only in certain countries.

      • Correct me if I'm wrong, so Internet browsing is relatively secure over TOR Browser only?

        • Yes, very secure in that it's many layers of encryption passed on through multiple hosts who don't have the keys for the previous layers of encryption. So your traffic might start in Australia, get sent to Germany, into Russia, through Hong Kong and then to the UK and then return to you via the same route.

Here's a video that explains it:

The 50% Off promo code is valid through July 31st. The free mini VPN router promo is being offered while supplies last :)

I've been using them since 2014. Servers are fast, live chat is good. I'm happy.

    • +7

I use almost every day for the past couple of years. Any VPN add a small speed overhead but its minimal and worth the protection.

Be sure to run dns leak tests (various sites offer) and torrent test to ensure its working as settings in your browsers or router can cause a dns leak even with VPN connected. From memory when I had ad-blocking running on my router firmware and web browser set to use a proxy it caused a dns leak.

If you configure Paypal to automatically pay the invoice on renewal don't accidentally pay it manually when the invoice is emailed - I've done that and the auto payment still applies.

I pay US$15 every 6 months which works out to AU$40/yr

Link to the free travel router offered in this deal:

+1 to Automatic Payments. I have US$40 overpayment.
I have TG VPN, Proxy and Email - use the VPN App all the time on free wifi connections.
Works better than most, but of course it's not perfect.
Proxy for Tor Clients such as Deluge.
Only major complaint is they no longer support HULU / US Netflix. That was half the reason I chose the service.

      • +1

They actually do support it, you just have to pay extra per month for a dedicated IP. I have that and it works flawlessly. It worked without this till Netflix crack down.

Have actually found their products super easy to use and very reliable. Speeds are good, but i'm not on NBN so can't comment on 100Mbps speeds. Really like their config generator, makes it fast and easy to switch between different encryption and different systems.

        • +2

          how much extra?

        • Do dedicated IPs cost extra even for IPv6? It's so easy to get an enormous IPv6 range that I'd be surprised if they didn't give away IPv6 addresses for free.

    • +1

I've used them for two year, but I ditched them last year as speeds to US & UK were getting noticeably slower.

The other bummer (not sure if this is still the case), was you couldn't choose servers just regions/countries. So they might have 1000's of servers it was pot luck which server you connect to & if it was a slow one, then reconnection you'd usually get the same one. Also it's not helpful if say the BBC blocked a known VPN server, because you couldn't shop around various servers to find one which worked.

    • I've used their VPN service for about a year and have no complaints. Connections are stable and fast. Maybe not quite on the level as PIA Sydney in pure speed terms, but I've also noticed with TG I'm more likely to get an untainted IP address (whereas PIA IPs will generally be 'suspected network sharing devices'). Pretty minor for most use cases but worth mentioning I suppose.

I think I'm up to about 5 VPN providers now so have a good sense of relative quality. I'd say TG are a solid provider (compared to, say, nord, who are just awful).

  • Can I pay using google play?

    • No, not at this time. You can pay via SMS, just select Paymentwall and mobiamo on checkout. We also accept all forms of credit/debit card, PayPal, and Bitcoin.

  • I have one broadband and one mobile broadband device connected to multiple laptops, mobiles and 2 PC's . Should I buy two or is this for one device only.? Thank you.

    • Each VPN account is allowed up to five simultaneous connections so you can run the VPN on up to five devices at once. You can add more simultaneous connections on checkout, or use a VPN router to connect an unlimited number of devices.

  • hi rep, I am already a subscriber. How do I take advantage of your router offer?
Buy a further 2 years extension and email support? Where to pay the $10 shipping?

    • +1

Great! The router offer is valid for existing users. Please fill out a support ticket requesting the two year router promo offer and
let them know your shipping address. They will email you an invoice for the VPN + $10 shipping.

  • Hi Rep,

Does this VPN enable or actively work to enable a bypass to US Netflix?

    • Hi, yes, we do offer dedicated IP's that work for any streaming service.

      • IPv4 or IPv6 (or both)?

  • I just purchased. Can someone tell me how to setup my router so i could divert all my
LAN traffic thru the vpn ? its a tpg NetComm nf12

    • Most users run a second VPN router plugged into the main router. This way you can switch between ISP and VPN wifi as needed.
To run the VPN tunnel on your router, first make sure the router is compatible with OpenVPN or supports DDWRT, Tomato, or OpenWRT.
We also offer a number of pre-configured VPN routers in our store: https://torguard.net/store/

Note: Torguard's HQ is in the US.

    https://vpnpick.com/reviews/torguard/

Based out of Nevis, West Indies, they make an ideal choice for users looking for an off-shore provider, but it should be noted that TorGuard’s headquarters are located in the US.

    • So they have to keep log by US laws?

      • The United States does not have a mandatory data retention law. According to TorGuard, they do not have logs. If a provider did keep logs (it's voluntary) then the US legal system is able to demand them.

        • I think you'll find that no vendor ever deletes their data immediately. The question is how long do they keep it before deleting it? And how many actually disclose that bit of info? So if the Govt asks for the data currently held, they are obliged to hand it over.

          https://www.ivpn.net/data-retention-laws/united-states

        • @Ultraman: The reason they don't keep logs is because logs require storage media. If they run in RAM and never save logs, it can save $$$.

        • @twocsies: Cool. You learn something new every day :)

        • +1

@Ultraman: One issue is that law enforcement could issue a warrant that would force the VPN provider to keep your logs. They could also force the provider to not tell you about it.

        • @twocsies: PS. by "to keep" I meant "to start keeping"…)

      • TorGuard does not store any traffic logs or user session data on our network. For best privacy, one should pay with bitcoin since a name and address is not required during signup.

        • +2

          Do you have warrant canary?

        • +1

@Pest85: Would also like to know this

  • Rep if you can confirm that this price will also enable Netflix streaming I'll resign back up. The issue was last time i was requested to pay an extra few dollars a month to enable this feature.

    • That is still the case. They have to use dedicated IPs now which cost them more. Unfortunately there's nobody but Netflix to blame for that as they initiated the geoblocking measures.

    • I wouldn't sign up to a VPN to get netflix as it's still a cat & mouse game, so there's a good chance they'll be blocked and you'll be disappointed.

    • +1

I can confirm that adding a dedicated IP add-on feature will get your Flix back. (50% Promo discount is also valid for Dedicated IP add-on)

If for any reason your dedicated IP for streaming would be blocked, we replace it at no cost.

      • how much extra is the dedicated IP?

        • $17USD it seems, thats with the 50% applied. Connected to a US IP

        • With the discount applied, $3.99USD per month

        • @TorGuardVPN:

          I've been in a $15.99 semi-annual plan already.
How can I purchase an IP to bypass the Netflix geo-block (with discount)?

        • Please contact the support desk and let them know what region you need. They will send you an invoice and IP to add in the VPN app: https://torguard.net/submitticket.php

  • Does this work with Firestick 2nd/3rd gen by installing apk directly on the device without the use of another router/virtual router?

Thanks, looking to get VPN/Dedicated IP for streaming.

    • Furthermore, does a regular dedicated IP allow you to watch Netflix etc? and what is the user limit per dedicated IP

    • Yes, it does. You can download the apk directly from our downloads page:
      https://torguard.net/downloads.php

  • According to https://thatoneprivacysite.net/simple-vpn-comparison-chart/, TorGuard could keep logs on your web browsing and are within privacy jurisdiction.
Personally, I would keep away from TorGuard

    just my views

    • That site does not state the last time each rating was updated. I believe that TorGuard moved to the West Indies for precisely that issue back in 2014, although this recent (April 2017) review in Oz PC Magazine is not clear about that. http://au.pcmag.com/torguard-vpn/29729/review/torguard-vpn

The review also suggests that TorGuard is a good service, but that other services are likely cheaper and better.

    • This website is incorrect. At this time the US does not have any laws compelling ISPs to retain customer data. TorGuard does not and will never log web browsing activity.

  • the website states that the web site was last updated on (Data last updated on 5/30/17), though, it doesn't indicate whether that also included updating the vpn list.

  • Hmm, I wish I could get a 1 day trial… sick of my Vpn making LoL 500 ping and having to make routes to bypass it
I have seen reviews saying the ping is good, but hope AU servers also get good ping…

Anyone here used Tor for gaming for a Sydney server?

    • Sorry, there is no trial but we do offer a money back guarantee. If you are not happy for any reason we will issue a refund, no questions asked.

TorGuard offers fast VPN servers in Sydney and Melbourne. For best speeds when gaming we suggest using OpenConnect tunnel type.

  • I see this kinf of of reviews for you in TorrentFreak "
DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! Ofer anonymous VPN and access to BBC IPLayer. Once they have your money they ask for $4.99 a month extra for dedicated streaming VPNs"
Is this true or false ? Do you guys charge extra for dedicated streaming VPNs ?

I also see, that "TorGuard is owned and operated by VPNetworks LLC under US jurisdiction" . With changed political scenario in US what is your position if US Govt/Court forces you to reveal information about a user ? What information do you hvae about a user that you can reveal ? If say US Govt/Court asks you to reveal details of user say me "Babe", how do you know who is "Babe" so that you can relate back to me ?

    • Torguard do ask extra for access to things like netflix, its purely because it is a dedicated IP address.

I have one into Japan and it works an absolute treat.

    • +1

since you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, using a shared IP address is probably blocked on streaming services (ala netflix crackdown) but if you pay for a dedicated IP address, this will get around these 'crackdowns' obviously

      • I see with interest that the Store Rep has not replied to my queries yet. Also if you see here

        https://thatoneprivacysite.net/simple-vpn-comparison-chart/

You will see that TorGuard along with PIA is highlighted in Red when it comes to jurisdiction.

        • +1

They haven't replied because your questions have already been asked in earlier comments

  • Don't give your address to a VPN provider… especially not one located in the US, that's insane. As much as the price is alluring, I wouldn't get this due to the location, one of the worst possible places to have a VPN provider (until North Korea or China start a VPN service…).

    • HMA have a north korean vpn server. HMA are 100% not to be trusted as they hand over the logs to anyone and everyone that wants them.

TorGuard have been around a long time and can be trusted.

  • -3

Hmm sound like scam. We also have Chinese promoting this, sound fishy.

  • +1

I've used this service for the past 2 years. It's been great. The code I had was a lifetime 50% discount which automatically applied when I renewed for my 2nd 12 months. Would recommend. I initially saw this on Gizmodo top 10.

  • +1

If the discount code was "brandisisascumbagparasiteasshat" I might be tempted, but I already have 2 x VPN providers.

People commenting on the US-centric aspects of this provider should do some actual research into actual laws. Privacy laws in the US are far stronger than here and being based on the US means they're not considered "alien", which improves their chances of surviving the US courts system intact.

But, as always when playing in this area, do your own research and fact check what you are told. By everyone.

    • +1

Due to my overwhelming agreement with your code I tried it out…but alas had to revert back to 1984. Still quite apt.

  • +1

Have used Torguard for a few years and have been happy with it.
Just renewed with this deal, so thanks for the discount.

  • Can I still change settings and select different region/country if I avail a USA static IP? Thanks

    • Yes, in the TorGuard VPN app you can "PIN" an IP from any location so you can re-connect to that same IP each time. We also allow direct IP connections to all shared VPN IP's.

  • +1

    @foyya, I have a few questions before i purchase.

How many australian servers do you actually have?

Is it possible to switch to different servers from the same country?

I have a Archer D7, is it possible to use torguard vpn services through my router, does it require custom firmware etc?

What is your refund policy if i experience very poor speeds or slow page loading after purchase?

Really interested in purchasing but need those questions answered if you could.

    Regards,

    • I have seen two servers, Sydney & Melbourne.

    • +1

      Hi, thanks for the questions.

We have AU servers in Sydney and Melbourne.

It is possible to switch to different servers from the same country as all VPN locations are separated by city name.

I don't believe the Archer D7 supports OpenVPN, however most opt to run the VPN on a second wifi router. You could add an Archer C7 running DDWRT and OpenVPN through TorGuard. The VPN router simply plugs into your existing router.

We have a 7 day money back guarantee. If you are not happy for any reason you'll get a full refund, no questions asked.

  • Will the free router thingy work with networked computers and things like a chromecast, especially when travelling? This would be basically setting up my own little portable network in my hotel room or where ever I go.

  • Been using them since 2013. Never had any problems.

  • +1

If you guys are mainly in this for torrent usage check out seedbox providers like seedboxes.cc who also provide free plex n vpn.

Also this is a great info site comparing various vpn services

    https://thatoneprivacysite.net

  • Question for Rep: are customers allowed to operate two paid accounts simultaneously (I.e. 10 connections through 2 accounts coming from the one address)? I do some fairly specialised web scraping, so adding more IPs into the rotation always helps :)

    • Yes, you can add multiple paid services under one account.

  • Did you guys get served with a FISA warrant around 2014?

  • Can I use this to block Internet (contents as well as time usage) for kids?

Also, as I currently have ADSL Modem + Asus wireless router (great for VPN into home network, when I'm outside), I suspect with the GLi GL-MT300N Mini VPN Router, I can set it up so that it located in front of ADSL modem? (Phone line => ADSL model => VPN router => Asus wireless router)

Ps: I wish my Asus wireless router can be DD WRT to support openVPN…

  • Do you guarantee your services in China? I want to sign up now, but won't be there in a couple of months.

    • Yes, we guarantee VPN access behind China's GFW. For best performance use OpenConnect VPN tunnel-type, or Stealth VPN + Proxy options.

China does block TorGuard domains, so it would be best to install the VPN apps prior to arrival.

  • What's the difference between TG and PIA ? Basically the same price annually.

  • How does this compare to Getflix? My annual subscription to Getflix is due soon

    • This wont unblock hulu and netflix unless you get a dedicated IP add on which cost from memory $7.99usd from TorGuard!

      • +1

Or 27.54USD per IP if you purchase annually (or $3.99 USD per month) - I've just done this and it seems pretty good.

  • Been using them for years.
Thanks for posting the offer, just purchased.
Very easy to get the offer, support team made it very easy.

  • Hi rep, I signed up for one year, yesterday. I love the service,
can I subsequently add another year and still get the router?

    • Thanks for the support! Yes, please contact our support desk and they will arrange everything:
      https://torguard.net/submitticket.php

      • Is the mini VPN router still available with 2 year subscription? Still stock available?

  • I ended up signing up
What can I say, HUGE improvement over PIA…
all my slow dns issues gone, League of Legends runs with good ping (marginally slower ping from Sydney server than without VPN, but not over 500 like PIA)

It connects much more quickly too

  • Been using these guys for more than 1/2year now.
Support is great. Service is great also.
I don't have NBN but it can max out my connection at 10Mbps

  • Hi Rep, is the mini VPN router still available with 2 year subscription? Still stock available?

    • Yes, the mini VPN router offer is still available and in stock!

  • Thanks rep, signed up for 1 year

  • An Amazon seller is claiming the router can connect to a wired network and share it as wireless without initially logging onto the hotel WiFi page. Is that true?

  • Is the router still available?? Dont want to subscribe if there is no more stock on the router

    • Yes, the router offer w/ two year plan is still available
